Building Information Modelling in Facility Management of Public Buildings : a Case Study of Public Hospital
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Alvanchi, Amin (Supervisor)
Abstract
Purpose: The government owns a majority of healthcare infrastructures in Iran. Annual budget assigned to the hospitals and other parts of the healthcare system constitutes a significant portion of the country’s total budget. Despite the huge money spent, and regardless of recent improvements made to the healthcare system, still Iranian’s satisfaction level from public hospitals is low. However, improving complex and congested facility and utility systems of hospital buildings, supporting various delicate hospital services, can play an important role in both reducing hospital costs and enhancing quality level of services provided. Methodology: So far, use of various advantages building...

Abstract
Table forms are highly flexible and mobile form systems for beams and slabs. In this system, the components with standard dimensions are fabricated in production plants, transported to construction sites and assembled for final use. Then, based on the plan of the floor zone to be constructed and location of columns, beams, and openings, the assembled tables are placed next to each other and the gaps are covered to provide a perfect surface for concrete casting. However, since the tables are rectangular with standard dimensions, even the best layout does not guarantee the full coverage of the area with tables. The more the uncovered areas are, the more the extra formwork cost and required...

The Application of BIM for Reducing the Incidents Rate and Increasing Highways Safety
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Alvanchi, Amin (Supervisor)
Abstract
Despite eye-catching progressive trends in highway safety, there have been a great number of unpleasant incidents in highways. A number of 8841 people died in road accidents in the first 6 month this year with 1.7% increase compared to the accidents occurred in 1396 [59]. Operation of a modeling process shall provide the engineers with more opportunities to identify the affecting factors in roads incidents. Safety infrastructure management is mainly aimed at ensuring the efficient measurement, systematic recognition and consequently deterioration of road accidents when they have been designed, constructed and used [37]. Building information modeling (BIM) tends to be a developed managerial...

Automatic Identification of Hazard Factors in Project Planning Phase Using Building Information Modeling (BIM)
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Alvanchi, Amin (Supervisor) ; Karimi, Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
The construction is classified as a high-risk industry. The number of casualties and fatalities in this industry is disproportionately high. The ability to recognize hazards in the construction process and the design stage is still in its early stages of development. The most important way to control and eliminate hazards and accidents is to analyze these hazards before they occur and plan to deal with them before starting project activities. Identifying safety risks is the first step in evaluating and analyzing these risks. Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology, due to the consideration of the relationship between the elements in the model and because it contains an object-oriented...
Developing an Interactive Simulation Environment for Improving Time and Cost Planning of Building Projects using Combined BIM-VR Technologies
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Alvanchi, Amin (Supervisor)
Abstract
Despite advancements in Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the construction industry, issues such as the intangibility of building models and a lack of interaction and opinion-sharing still exist. The integration of Virtual Reality with BIM has rectified these problems. Quantity surveying, material estimation, solving design problems during modeling and preparing a building model containing information are some of the advantages of using BIM in this research. Alongside BIM, VR tools were employed as a mean to increase interaction with the user, boost marketing and pre-sales, create alternative options for building components, and estimate cost and time. Following the development of a...

Abstract
Building envelopes and regional conditions can significantly contribute to the cost and energy performance of the buildings. Structured methods that take into account the impacts of both the envelope materials and the regional conditions to find the most feasible envelope materials within a region, however, are still missing. This study responds to this need by proposing a novel method using the capabilities of Building Information Modeling (BIM). The proposed method is used for identifying cost- and energy-efficient building envelope materials within a region over the life cycle. First, commonly used envelope materials in a region are identified. Then, BIM is employed for simulating the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Alvanchi, Amin (Supervisor)
Abstract
The growing number of disasters in recent years has become a significant threat to hospital buildings' resilience and preparedness. Besides, the stochastic nature of these disasters and the complexity of the hospital building systems exacerbate the difficulty of making appropriate decisions during and after disasters. To address the issue, this research proposes a novel model that utilizes the capabilities of Bayesian Networks (BNs) and Building Information Modeling (BIM). This model helps decision-makers in hospitals and medical centers measure various effects of disasters on utility systems and analyze the consequences of their decisions. The capabilities of the proposed model are tested...
