    Abstract
Elastomers have wide and ever increasing applications in several industries. In this work a compressible visco-hyperelastic approach is employed to investigate the behavior of elastomeric materials. The time-discrete form of the material model is developed to be used in numerical simulations. This formulation provides a recursive relation to update the stress in any time step regarding the deformation history. By means of analytical solutions derived for pure torsion of a solid circular cylinder, the numerical implementation is validated and then, the response of an elastomeric bushing is investigated in torsional, axial and combined deformations. These bushings are used in suspension...

    Abstract
Appealing advantages of high-temperature superconducting (HTS) transformers are very promising for the contemporary and future power delivery systems. Cryogenic insulation technology is one of the key technologies for their commercialization. In this paper insulation design of the end part of cryogenic high voltage (H. V.) bushing of a 230/20 kV HTS transformer is developed. Analytical relations and finite element method (FEM) modelling, through application of COMSOL Multiphysics software, are employed for determination of electric field distribution in this design process. Weibull 0.1% dielectric breakdown strength has been considered as criterion for insulation design. Different shape and...

Seismic Performance Evaluation of Electric Power Equipment and Application of Base-Isolation for Electric Power Transformers to Improve Their Behavior and Reduce the Vibration Caused by the Earthquake

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mojarad Dorbadam, Mohammad (Author) ; Bakhshi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis is concerned with the performance of heavy equipments like electric substation transformers and bushings under earthquake loading. It begins with the description of the transformers, attached bushings, and some typical examples of substation failures in earthquake loading. This is followed by the field test and development of numerical models of transformer and two different types of seismic isolations, Natural rubber bearings (NRB) and high damping rubber bearings (HDRB) and in order to find the appropriate isolator, responses of fixed base and isolated transformers are compared. Important observations were made on the seismic responses of the transformer and its bushing....

    Abstract
An investigation into the dynamics of vehicle-passenger-structure-induced vibration of suspension bridges traversed by accelerating vehicles is carried out. The vehicle including the driver and passengers is modeled as a half-car planer model with six degrees-of-freedom. In addition, the stiffness of compliant bushings at the connecting points of the shock absorbers to the body is considered. The bridge is assumed to obey the Timoshenko beam theory with axial load and arbitrary conventional boundary conditions. The roughness of the bridge is assumed as a differentiable function of location. Due to continuously moving the location of the variable loads on the bridge, and in the presence of...
