    , Article Journal of Electronic Materials ; Volume 41, Issue 11 , 2012 , Pages 3050-3055 ; 03615235 (ISSN) Zarghami, V ; Mohammadi, M. R ; Fray, D. J ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The morphological manipulation, structural characterization, and optical properties of different cadmium selenide (CdSe) nanostructures are reported. Two different CdSe nanostructures, i.e., nanorods and nanoparticles, were grown by controlling the concentration of precursors (i.e., cadmium nitrate and selenium dioxide) in ethanolamine solvent. By manipulating the kinetic parameter of the process (i.e., growth rate) under constant growth driving force (i.e., degree of supersaturation), the morphology of CdSe nanostructures can be tailored from nanorods to nanoparticles. The optical properties of CdSe nanostructures were investigated using ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy. The...

Tailoring of morphology and crystal structure of CdSe nanostructures by controlling the ratio of triethylenetetraamine and water in their mixed solution

    , Article Applied Physics A: Materials Science and Processing ; Volume 107, Issue 2 , May , 2012 , Pages 497-502 ; 09478396 (ISSN) Mohammadi, M. R ; Zarghami, V ; Fray, D. J ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The morphological manipulation, structural characterization, and optical properties of different CdSe nanocrystals were reported. Several different CdSe nanostructures, including nanowires, tetrapod crystals, and nanoparticles were grown by varying the volume ratio of triethylenetetraamine (TETA) and water (WA) in their mixed solution. By manipulating the growth driving force (i.e., the degree of supersaturation) and kinetics of the process (i.e., growth rate), the morphology and crystal structure of CdSe nanocrystals can be tailored. Growth driving force changed their morphology from nanowires to tetrapod structures and from the latter structure to nanoparticles. Moreover, kinetics of the...

Fluorine treatment of TiO2 for enhancing quantum dot sensitized solar cell performance

    , Article Journal of Physical Chemistry C ; Volume 115, Issue 29 , June , 2011 , Pages 14400-14407 ; 19327447 (ISSN) Samadpour, M ; Boix, P. P ; Giménez, S ; Iraji Zad, A ; Taghavinia, N ; Mora Seró, I ; Bisquert, J ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Surface treatments of TiO2 nanostructure in semiconductor quantum dot sensitized solar cells (QDSCs) aimed to increase the photovoltaic conversion efficiencies of the solar cells are analyzed. A fluorine treatment, with NH4F or HF, on the TiO2 electrodes leads to a general increase of QDSCs performance in a range of QDSCs using different light absorbing materials: CdS, CdSe, and PbS/CdS. In contrast, no significant effect on QDSC performance has been observed after a TiCl4 treatment conventionally used for high performance dye sensitized solar cells (DSCs). Surface and photoelectrochemical characterization of treated electrodes and full solar cells was carried out by means of X-ray...

A new structure to increase the photostability of CdTe quantum dot sensitized solar cells

    , Article Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics ; Volume 44, Issue 4 , January , 2011 ; 00223727 (ISSN) Samadpour, M ; Iraji zad, A ; Taghavinia, N ; Molaei, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper a new cell structure is introduced to reduce the rate of CdTe corrosion in quantum dot sensitized solar cells (QDSSCs) using I -/I- 3 electrolyte. In this cell, one electrode is a titania nanorod that was sensitized with CdTe quantum dots as the working electrode. A thin gold layer is sputtered on the electrode to act as a protective layer against the I-/I- 3 corrosive electrolyte and to passivate the CdTe surface traps which are the main recombination centres in a QDSSC. In addition, a Schottky barrier formed at the interface of Au and CdTe prevents direct electron recombination from the CdTe conduction band with I- 3 ions. The mechanism of charge transfer and quantum dot...

Polyrotaxane capped quantum dots as new candidates for cancer diagnosis and therapy

    , Article Journal of Nanostructured Polymers and Nanocomposites ; Volume 7, Issue 1 , 2011 , Pages 18-31 ; 17904439 (ISSN) Sarabi, R. S ; Sadeghi, E ; Hosseinkhani, H ; Mahmoudi, M ; Kalantari, M ; Adeli, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Molecular self-assembly of cadmium selenide quantum dots-end-capped polyrotaxane hybrid nanostructures (PRCdSe QDs) was led to a new type of core-shell hybrid nanomaterials consisting of cadmium selenide quantum dot (CdSe QDs) core and polyrotaxane shell (PR@QDs). Structure of PR@QDs was characterized using various techniques. It has been observed that the size of PR@QDs was between 20-25 nm in which diameter of core and thickness of shell were between 15-20 and 2-3 nm, respectively. Short-term in vitro cytotoxicity tests, using MTT (3-(4,5- dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay, were conducted on mouse tissue connective fibroblast adhesive cell line (L929) in order to...

Investigating the shape evolution mechanism of CdSe quantum dots by chemometrics analysis of spectrophotometry data

    , Article Journal of Physical Chemistry C ; Volume 112, Issue 47 , 2008 , Pages 18321-18324 ; 19327447 (ISSN) Hemmateenejad, B ; Hormozi Nezhad, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The study on the mechanism of the shape evolution of nanocrystaline particles is an important and emerging field, which is applicable in the shaped control synthesis of nanoparticles. As an alternative to transmittance electron microscopy (TEM), which is already used in the study of nanoparticles, in this article a simple spectrophotometric method has been proposed utilizing the advantages of chemometrics methods in analyzing overlapped and complex spectral data. The evolutionary visible absorbance data of CdSe quantum dots through particle formation were analyzed by factor analysis, evolving factor analysis, and multivariate curve resolution-alternative least-squares analysis, by which four...

    Abstract
Here we analyze the effect of two relevant aspects related to cell preparation on quantum dot sensitized solar cells (QDSCs) performance: the architecture of the TiO 2 nanostructured electrode and the growth method of quantum dots (QD). Particular attention is given to the effect on the photovoltage, V oc, since this parameter conveys the main current limitation of QDSCs. We have analyzed electrodes directly sensitized with CdSe QDs grown by chemical bath deposition (CBD) and successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR). We have carried out a systematic study comprising structural, optical, photophysical and photoelectrochemical characterization in order to correlate the material...
