    , Article International Review of Electrical Engineering ; Volume 4, Issue 4 , 2009 , Pages 592-600 ; 18276660 (ISSN) Rajabi Ghahnavieh, A ; Fotuhi Firuzabad, M ; Shahidehpour, M ; Feuillet, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
The applications of available transfer capability (ATC) have received considerable attention in restructured power systems. System operators calculate and post ATC values for different time intervals considering power system operation issues, including security issues. On the other hand, competitive electricity market has added economic issues to transmission services such that they could have different price, type (recallable/non-recallable) and curtailment cost. The inclusion of economic issues in ATC calculation to obtain NATC and RATC has not been sufficiently addressed yet. This paper presents a method to calculate ATC on a weekly base in restructured power systems which incorporates...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nasiri, Mohammad Nasir (Author) ; Modarres, Abdolhamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Today, the importance of growth and its relation with the survival of the organization is well-known by all managers. However, path selection in this area seems extremely vague and difficult. The present theoretical research, conducted to help further clarify growth dimension characteristics, aims at considering possible growth paths for firms as well as examining required capabilities for each path. In this research, firm growth was studied from three different angles: value chain, product system complexity and the market. A relatively comprehensive categorization was made of organizational capabilities namely technological, managerial and networking and it was examined within dynamic and...

    Abstract
Different multivariate process capability indices are developed by researchers to evaluate process capability when vectors of quality characteristics are considered in a study. This paper presents two indices referred to as NCpM,and MCpM, in order to evaluate process capability in multivariate environment. The performance of the proposed indices is investigated numerically. Simulation results indicate that the proposed indices have descended estimation error and improved performance compared to the existing ones. These results can be important to researchers and practitioners who are interested in evaluating process capability in multivariate domain

Functional process capability analysis in mechanical systems

    , Article International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology ; Vol. 73, issue. 5-8 , July , 2014 , p. 899-912 ; 02683768 Khodaygan, S ; Movahhedy, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Functional quality in the mechanical products is governed mainly by the degree of satisfaction of the design requirements, which itself depends on the variations in the effective variables. The functional parameters cannot be easily measured in mass production, and thus, are not usually considered as a direct inspection objective. Process capability indices are useful tools for evaluating the ability of a process to produce the dependent variables of a product that meet certain specifications. In this paper, the conventional process capability concept is extended to develop a computational tool for analysis of the functional quality of a mechanical product. Through defining new proper...

    Abstract
In this paper we discuss an improved method for the calculation of Available Transfer Capability (ATC) in a restructured power system. The ATC calculation is performed through an optimal power flow approach. The objective function is to maximize the sum of the receiving-end load in a specified area as well as to send generation to other control areas while a minimum cost of generation is continuously achieved. The constraints are ac power flow equations and system operation limits. It is assumed that the generation cost curve of each generator is available. A genetic algorithm is used for the optimization process. An IEEE 30 bus test system is used for testing the proposed algorithm and the...

    Abstract
This paper describes an approach for unit start-up sequence determination during power system restoration. This approach is based on the backtracking search method, which determines the generating starting times to maximize the MWh load served over a restoration period and guarantee optimality of the start up sequence. The dynamic characteristics of different types of units and system constraints have to be considered. The shortest path, i.e., the path that requires the minimal number of switching actions, between the supplying unit and load is selected unless it is not feasible. Simulation tests, carried out on 39-bus New England test system, verify the effectiveness of the proposed method....

Dynamic based cost functions for TF/TA flights

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems ; Volume 48, Issue 1 , 2012 , Pages 44-63 ; 00189251 (ISSN) Malaek, S. M ; Kosari, A. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this work we present a systematic approach to incorporating the dynamic capabilities of an aircraft via suitable cost functions while planning for terrain following-terrain avoidance trajectories. We further show that use of nondimensional parameters related to the dynamics of an aircraft within the cost function provides a better understanding of how they could affect the resulting trajectories. Different case studies for arbitrary three-dimensional flights show that the current approach provides more realistic trajectories and so helps alleviate the design process of relevant controllers as well as tracking systems over the desired terrain. We further introduce two new parameters of...

    Abstract
In some quality control applications, quality of a product or a process can be characterized by a profile defined as a functional relationship between a response variable and one or more explanatory variables. Many researchers have contributed to the development of linear and nonlinear profiles to monitor a process or product. However, less work has been devoted to the development of process capability indices in profile monitoring to evaluate process performance with respect to specification limits. This paper presents a process capability analysis when the quality characteristic of interest is represented by a linear profile. Simulation analyses along with a real case study in leather...

Goal Directed Programming for Determining Process Efficiency Using Data Envelopment Analysis

    , Article Journal of Mathematical Modelling and Algorithms in Operations Research ; 2013 , Pages 1-17 ; 22142487 (ISSN) Tavassoli, M ; Adldoost, H ; Saen, R. F ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer Netherlands  2013
    Abstract
There are numerous measurement methods for process performance control. One of which, widely used in quality control programs, is process capability (Cp) index. The advantage of this index is due to the high amount of information extracted from it. Since Cpis independent from a particular measurement unit it can be used to compare several quite different processes. While the relative efficiency of the process performance based on the Cpfor a period is satisfying, the process may lose efficiency in the next period for variety of reasons and could not keep up with the standard limits. The objective of this paper is to develop a new approach for measuring the relative efficiency of peer...

Fuzzy-based analysis of process capability for assembly quality assessment in mechanical assemblies

    , Article International Journal of Production Research ; Volume 50, Issue 12 , 2012 , Pages 3395-3415 ; 00207543 (ISSN) Khodaygan, S ; Movahhedy, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Process capability indices are useful tools for evaluating the ability of a process to produce products that meet certain specifications. The assembly quality is dependent on the distribution of variations of assembly dimensions, which is in turn dependent on mating conditions in the mechanical assembly. Since it is often difficult to measure the assembly dimensions in the production stages, they are not considered as a direct inspection objective. Rather, the inspection and evaluation of quality is carried out by specifying whether the assembly requirements satisfy the specified limits. Therefore, we can basethe process capability indices on the assembly dimensions. In most real life cases,...

Paths of technological capability building in complex capital goods: The case of hydro electricity generation systems in Iran

, Article Technological Forecasting and Social Change ; 2016 ; 00401625 (ISSN) Kiamehr, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Inc  2016
    Abstract
This paper investigates the accumulation of technological capability in latecomer suppliers of complex capital goods by exploring the issue in an Iranian supplier of large hydro electricity generation systems. The findings suggest that, contrary to the conventional paths of catch-up in Asian and Latin American mass-producing electronics firms, and instead of starting from early stages of product lifecycle, the technological capabilities in this case were acquired through a non-linear movement within the stages of designing and installing complex capital goods in projects: starting from the middle stage (engineering and realisation of complex goods in projects), moving to the last stage...
