Role of Supply Chain Social Capital in Healthcare Supply Chain Resilience

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khodadadi Nezhad, Hossein (Author) ; Khalili Nasr, Arash (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Increased globalization and level of complexity of supply chains have made them more vulnerable to environmental disruptions than ever before. However, conventional methods of risk management can not help supply chains in the face of turmoil and disruption, because of unexpected and unfortunate events due to the unpredictability and uncertainty in which they are. They can have irreversible effects on supply chains and even threaten the very existence of members of these chains. In such a situation, the key to the success and survival of supply chain operations is to achieve supply chain resilience. On the other hand, health care supply chains are one of the most important and vital parts of...

Real effects of working capital shocks: theory and evidence from micro data

    , Article Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance ; 2017 ; 10629769 (ISSN) Mahmoudzadeh, A ; Nili, M ; Nili, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Our study investigates the real consequences of variations in the first and second moments of working capital requirement (WCR) in the presence of financial frictions. We introduce a theoretical link from imperfect information about WCR to firms' performance. Firms choose non-prepaid factors of production with uncertainty about required prepayments, where their access to credit is constrained by collateral. After realization, firms with higher WCR may face financial constraints. This uncertainty influences their demand for inputs, albeit risk-neutrality. Unable to employ the projected level of prepaid input, constrained firms encounter capacity underutilization, leading to misallocation of...

Corporate Code of Conduct: A Kantian Perspective

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mehdizadeh, Ali Akbar (Author) ; Azadegan, Ebrahim (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the business context, the normative criteria by which moral status of individuals and organizational decision making and actions are evaluated are extracted from a recently developed discipline called the business ethics. There are various successful and unsuccessful theoretical frameworks to formulate or describe ethical norms in the business context such as consequentialism, utilitarianism, egoism, principlism, virtuism, and deontological ethics. In this dissertation, moral issues commonly raised in the economic and political system of capitalism have been investigated from a deontological point of view through the notion of “Kantian Capitalism” that was initially coined by the...

Paths of technological capability building in complex capital goods: The case of hydro electricity generation systems in Iran

, Article Technological Forecasting and Social Change ; 2016 ; 00401625 (ISSN) Kiamehr, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Inc  2016
    Abstract
This paper investigates the accumulation of technological capability in latecomer suppliers of complex capital goods by exploring the issue in an Iranian supplier of large hydro electricity generation systems. The findings suggest that, contrary to the conventional paths of catch-up in Asian and Latin American mass-producing electronics firms, and instead of starting from early stages of product lifecycle, the technological capabilities in this case were acquired through a non-linear movement within the stages of designing and installing complex capital goods in projects: starting from the middle stage (engineering and realisation of complex goods in projects), moving to the last stage...

Small Capital Encouragement for Financing Oil Exploration and Production Sector

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bagherpour, Sajjad (Author) ; Maleki, Abbas (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Due to financial resources constraints, the country's oil industry, especially the upstream oil sector accounting for most of the country's foreign exchange and budget revenues, has not been developed. Thanks to the international sanctions against our country, the conventional financing methods are difficult to use anymore. According to the the current circumstances, the alternative sources of funding using modern approaches are necessary. Moreover, small capital is one of the alternative sources with the high potential for the high level of the liquidity in the society. This study, investigates the financial tools regarding capital market to attract small capital in order to finance...

Capital Structure of Iranian Listed Companies

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tavana, Pooriya (Author) ; Keshavarz Hadad, Gholamreza (Supervisor) ; Abdoh Tabrizi, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Which capital structure theories have the power to explain the determinant of capital structure in capital market companies, assuming the difference between the institutional and fundamental structure of Iran with other countries, which affects the behavior and decision-making style of managers. After the emergence of capital structure theories, studies were performed to assess the explanatory power of theories. The results revealed the fact that the differences in the institutional structure of countries affects the behavior and decision-making style of managers for adopting the optimal capital structure, and the determinants of capital structure followed a limited number of theories. In...

Investigating the Application of Game Theory in Pricing and Market Analysis

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammadiha, Hamid Reza (Author) ; khashkhashi Moghaddam, Shokraneh (Supervisor) ; Talebian, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Game theory, renowned for its transformative impact on economic theory, has often remained on the periphery of strategic decision-making within businesses, primarily due to its inherent mathematical complexity. This research offers a novel perspective to address this challenge, particularly in the realm of strategic pricing and revenue management. When analyzing strategic positions becomes challenging due to structural or informational complexities, this study proposes a strategic incorporation of these dimensions into a serious gaming framework. By distilling complex market dynamics into key modeling parameters, an environment closely mirroring real-world scenarios is created. In this...

Comparing different rotor structures in superconducting synchronous motors

    , Article Proceedings of the 2013 IEEE International Electric Machines and Drives Conference ; May , 2013 , Pages 1053-1057 ; 9781467349758 (ISBN) Elhaminia, P ; Yaghoobi, J ; Yazdanian, M ; Zolghadri, M. R ; Ferdowsi, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Two major structures for rotor core of superconducting synchronous machine are air-cored and magnetic-cored structures. Magnetic-cored structure can be divided into two categories including salient and non-salient magnetic core. In this paper, three different structures of superconducting synchronous machine comprising air-cored, non-salient magnetic-cored and salient magnetic-cored, have been studied and compared considering required superconducting wire and machine weight. Required superconducting wire determines the capital cost and the weight of the machine determines the running cost in the case of portable applications such as ships and aircrafts

Capital Misallocation and Bank Interest Rate

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shamsi, Mohammad Javad (Author) ; Madanizadeh, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
To understand the link between the capital misallocation and financial repression in less-developed economies, we put forward a dynamic theoretical macro-finance model with information asymmetry between firms and the bank. While there is no exogenous instrument for the bank to asses firms’ productivity, we let him update his belief about firms’ productivity, based on their records. We show in the presence of asymmetric information and weak formal contract enforcement systems, in the short-run, increasing the interest rate may increase capital misallocation since the moral hazard problem of strategically defaulting of firms can cancel out the screening mechanism of increasing the interest...

An Essay on Effect of Working Capital Financing on Firm Performance

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Aziminia, Hamid Reza (Author) ; Madanizadeh, Ali (Supervisor) ; Mahmoudzadeh Ahmadinejad, Amineh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This study examines the effect of working capital financing on the performance of Iranian manufacturing establishments in the credit crunch of 1387 (2008). The identification strategy for this study is comparison of ex-ante features and ex-post performance using instrumental variable (IV) regression. This IV regression, by controlling other determinants of dependence on working capital (domestic demand, exports and imports) and considering credit crunch indicator, can provide an unbiased and consistent estimation impact of working capital channel in credit crunch. This study uses a sample from "Annual Survey of Iranian Manufacturing Establishments" that includes 95512 observations and 28859...

Latency-aware service provisioning in survivable multilayer IP-over-elastic optical networks to support multi-class of service transmission

    , Article Computer Communications ; Volume 183 , 2022 , Pages 161-170 ; 01403664 (ISSN) Etezadi, E ; Beyranvand, H ; Salehi, J. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2022
    Abstract
To meet the requirements of the emerging applications, future networks must transmit multiple class of services traffic with diverse quality of service (QoS) requirements. In this paper, we formulate an integer linear programming (ILP) to design multilayer internet protocol (IP) over elastic optical networks (EONs), IP-over-EONs to support multi-class services with different latency and availability requirements. The objective of the ILP is to minimize capital expenditure (CAPEX) and spectrum usage while satisfying all QoS constraints in terms of latency and survivability mechanism. Furthermore, a heuristic algorithm is proposed to solve this problem in large-scale networks. We compare the...

Long Term Effective Factors on House Price of Metropolises of Iran

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moeeni, Safoura (Author) ; Nili, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The notable share of housing sector in GDP (approximately five percent) shows this sector’s relation with macroeconomic activities. On the other hand, House as an asset leads housing sector to be affected by monetary and fiscal variables. A dynamic panel data was used in this study to evaluate the relations between housing sector and some macroeconomic variables in metropolises of Iran. As results show, in long term growth of liquidity, GDP per capita and sharp ratio have positive effects, and land per capita has negative effect on housing price in metropolises of Iran. Price increases have not been equal in different cities. Inequality of land price between metropolises and between...

The Study of Firm Specific Determinants of Capital Structure: Evidence form Iranian Frims Listed on Tehran Stock Exchange

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Saeedi, Hesamoddin (Author) ; Zamani, Shiva (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Since the seminal work of Modigliani and Miller, the basic question of whether a unique combination of debt and equity capital maximizes the firm value, and if so, what factors could influence a firm’s optimal capital structure have been the subject of frequent debate in the capital structure literature. Empirical work in this area has lagged behind the theoretical research, perhaps because the relevant firm attributes are expressed in terms of fairly abstract concepts that are not directly observable and furthermore capital structure decision-making is even more complicated when it is examined in an international context, particularly in developing countries where markets are characterized...

The Impact of Product Market Distortions On Manufacturing TFP in Iran; The Role of Trade

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Eshagh Nia, Mohammad Sadegh (Author) ; Fatemi Ardestani, Farshad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Producer-level data for Iranian manufacturing firms shows a large amount of dispersion and concentration in producer level sectoral shares, as well as a very strong relashionship between sectoral shares and markups. We Study the pro-competitive gain from trade in the Iran’s manufacturing sector. Domestic firms in Iranian manufacturing sector are protected via tarfiff and non-tariff barriers enforced by the government. In many sections of manufacturing sector, domestic firms feel little competition and charge high markups. The market power of domestic firms could be reduced by the reduction of tariff rate and increase in import share. As a result of foreign competition pressure, they would be...

The Interest Rate of “Transactional Loans” and Average Productivity of Capital in Iran’s Economy

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ebrahimian, Mehran (Author) ; Madanizadeh, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research, I propose a macro-finance model with asymmetric information between firms and banks to investigate the capital misallocation effect of government interventions in financial markets of Iran’s economy, in terms of setting the price of “Transactional Loans”. In the presence of adverse selection, interest rate may be an instrument for screening lowproductive firms; however, the moral hazard problem of low productive firms with voluntary default, cancels out the filtering mechanism in high interest rates, if the cost of default for low-productive firms is low and judicial systems are poor in enforcing contracts. Hence, government repression/regulation policies do not affect the...

Identifying the Distinctive Characteristics of Accelerators in Developing Countries: Iran Case Study

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Selk Ghaffari, Poorya (Author) ; Maleki, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
As accelerators develop, literature about their distinctive characteristics and functions grow. Primary studies about business accelerators focused on defining the model and finding the distinctive characteristics of business accelerators. Later studies started to ask different kind of questions about outcome, functions and especially different models of accelerators. . Accelerators in developing countries are new phenomenon. Considering the fact that economic and entrepreneurial ecosystem are different in developing countries, accelerators in these countries have some distinctive characteristics which are not studied deeply in small accelerators literature.Employing Pauwels’ design elements...
