Optimization of CO2 Sequestration Process for EOR

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Dalvi, Mojtaba (Author) ; Farhadi, Fathollah (Supervisor) ; Vafa, Ehsan (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Due to global warming and its environmental effects caused by increasing greenhouse gases concentration there are various agreement between different countries that forced countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, especially carbon dioxide. In this research, we using a nonlinear model and focusing on Assaluyeh region and identifying the sources of carbon dioxide emissions and the oil reservoir for carbon dioxide injection, we optimize the pipeline network for carbon dioxide transportation.Different values of input pressure, oil prices and carbon tax have been investigated. According to the results in the base case, the profit is equal to 149.28 million USD in year. If carbon tax is...

An optimization study of a palm oil-based regional bio-energy supply chain under carbon pricing and trading policies

    , Article Clean Technologies and Environmental Policy ; Volume 20, Issue 1 , 2018 , Pages 113-125 ; 1618954X (ISSN) Memari, A ; Ahmad, R ; Abdul Rahim, A. R ; Akbari Jokar, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer Verlag  2018
    Abstract
Biomass residues due to their low bulk density typically require frequent transportation from biomass plantations in rural areas to conversion bio-energy power plants. This issue contrasts with environmental protection strategies, especially when power plants are facing different carbon reduction policies that enforce them to emit less than a given specific carbon amount. Although several researchers have investigated bio-energy supply chains concerning environmental policies, the majority of studies have been devoted to strategic decisions over a single planning period. This paper presents a multi-period bio-energy supply chain under carbon pricing (carbon tax) and carbon trading...

A sustainable supply chain under VMI-CS agreement with withdrawal policies for imperfect items

    , Article Journal of Cleaner Production ; Volume 376 , 2022 ; 09596526 (ISSN) Asadkhani, J ; Fallahi, A ; Mokhtari, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
Supply Chain (SC) coordination, quality requirements, and environmental issues are the main areas of interest within the field of inventory management. Few studies have integrated these concepts into an inventory problem despite its overwhelming necessity. In this direction, this paper deals with a vendor-buyer SC under the Vendor-Managed Inventory with Consignment Stock (VMI-CS) agreement. According to the agreement, the vendor bears the buyer's financial holding cost in return for the storage of products in the buyer's warehouse. Further, each shipment involves a random fraction of repairable items, which need to be withdrawn from the inventory system. Unlike the existing literature, when...

Investigating the Economy-wide Rebound Effects from Adopting Fiscal Policies to Mitigate Pollution Emission

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Miri, Mohammad (Author) ; Saboohi, Yadollah (Supervisor) ; Adel Barkhordar, Zahra (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
For policy and decision makers, controlling pollution emissions are a real challenge. The best way to collect fiscal resources, optimal distribution of them to developing businesses in optimal energy production and reducing emissions, are important issues to be decided. Finding a monetary value emissions imposing to community is a key point to find out how they are affecting the whole economy and this will help decision makers to conduct better road maps and policies. Many different approaches and methodologies are used in literature to find appropriate answers to above mentioned questions and phenomena, in this research, integrated assessment modeling methodology is used, an economical...

Predictive Control System Design for an Industrial Small Scale Micro Cogeneration System

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseini Tash, Mohammad Ali (Author) ; Sayyadi, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, due to expansion of the cities, growth in population and developments in technology, energy demand has increased extremely. Therefore responding this increased demand is a great challenge in political and economical management of all countries. Thus in recent years, cogeneration has become so popular between experts in the energy field because of its great efficiency and performance. The goal of this research is to design a controller based on a model which can predict the behavior of the cogeneration system. This controler is called “Mode Based Predictive Controller”. It utilizes the system in such a manner which has the lowest operation costs. This goal is obtained via modeling...

Developing an Integrated Model of Management of Energy-Water Nexus in Industrial Ecosystems based on the Concept of Circular Economy(Case Study: South Pars Region)

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nazari, Erfan (Author) ; Saboohi, Yadollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The purpose of the present study is to plan an industrial system, over a period of 10 years, so that over time, while supplying the required demand, to optimal resource utilization with regard to material reuse and recovery flows of losses as well as the use of renewable resources move to implement the concept of a circular economy. One of the main incentives for the transition to a circular economy is carbon tax policy, which has been taken into account. The results of the decision-making model based on cost and flow constraints indicate that the use of carbon dioxide as a by-product of Pars Petrochemical Extraction Unit in order to produce urea in Pardis petrochemical industry in addition...

Developing a New Method to Estimate Taxing Electricity Sector Carbon Emissions based on Social Cost of Carbon Emissions

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shahbazi Seifabad, Ashkan (Author) ; Avami, Akram (Supervisor) ; Moeini Aghtaei, Moein (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Controlling, managing, and mitigating the emission of greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide, which are produced by human activities, are one of the main concerns of researchers today. Market-based methods are one the successful methods to enhance controlling, managing, and mitigating carbon dioxide emissions, among which the carbon tax has received more attention. Increasing clean technologies in the electricity network to the reduce the emissions of the electricity industry may reduce the carbon tax rate. In this regard, the life cycle analysis makes it possible to consider the emissions of the life cycle. The present model is applied for two representative days of Iran's electricity...

Superstructure Optimization of CO2 Capture, transport, and Utilization in Industrial Symbiosis Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shah Mohammadi, Amir (Author) ; Roshandel, Ramin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
CO2 capture and utilization (CCU) is a promising approach to reduce and control emissions from the industry and energy sector, while also creating new jobs and value-added products. However, one of the main barriers to the widespread adoption of CCU is the high investment and operating costs, which limit its implementation to mostly government-supported research projects. To overcome this barrier, structural optimization and identification of optimal routes and formation of industrial symbiosis networks are needed. In this research, we developed a comprehensive superstructure that includes sources and sinks (in a case study), CO2 capture and separation material and technology combinations...
