    Abstract
    In this paper, we propose a novel cognitive cooperative relaying scheme using multi-carrier transmission in which cognitive users assist primary users by relaying their information using Decode and Forward (DF) strategy. The best cognitive user is selected as a relay for a Primary User (PU). Outage probability of the PU is investigated. Our analyses show substantial improvements in the outage probability of the PU when using the proposed cooperative scheme compared to non-cooperative one. We also perform several simulations to corroborate our theoretical results

    Abstract
    In this paper, we will combine the frequency hopping (FH) and the multi-carrier code division multiple access scheme (MC-CDMA) through an internal coding. The total bandwidth will be divided to a number of sub-bands with equal bandwidth. In each signalling interval, the output of a super orthogonal encoder selects one of the sub-bands for data transmission. Sub-carriers are modulated by a user specific PN sequence, and are transmitted over the selected sub-band similar to the MC-CDMA communications. We will derive the exact bit error rate of the MC-CDMA system and the new coded system. It will be shown by analysis and simulation that the proposed system performs much better than the MC-CDMA...

    Abstract
    Adaptive modulation with the goal of minimizing the average transmit power is investigated. This is the dual problem of the well-known problem of maximizing the average spectral efficiency. This is desirable in power limited systems such as mobile and sensor networks. Two main cases are considered: adapting only transmit power and adapting only rate. Appropriate expressions for rate or power control policies are derived for different cases. For rate adaptation, we consider both continuous and discrete rate policies.     Abstract
    In this paper, the application of regular Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) codes in Multi-Carrier Frequency-Hopping (MC-FH) CDMA systems is studied. To this end, different well-known constructions of regular LDPC codes are considered and the performance of LDPC coded MC-FH-CDMA systems, based on these constructions, are evaluated and compared in a frequency-selective slowly Rayleigh fading channel. These results are compared with those previously reported for super-orthogonal convolutionally coded MC-FH-CDMA systems.     In this paper, a new method is proposed utilizing a diversity scheme to reduce power consumption in large scale sensor networks. Sensor networks are composed of large number of battery powered nodes. Energy consumption is the most important design objective in sensor networks while delay and throughput are taken less into account. Wireless transmission is the other important characteristic of these networks. Small-scale fading decreases wireless communication performance.     The authors investigate the content distribution among the vehicles of a cluster in a vehicular ad-hoc network, exploiting network coding.     In this article, we present a cross-layer adaptive algorithm that dynamically maximizes the average utility function. A per stage utility function is defined for each link of a carrier sense multiple access-based wireless network as a weighted concave function of energy consumption, smoothed rate, and smoothed queue size. Hence, by selecting weights we can control the trade-off among them.     Abstract
    In this paper, the impact of both time offsets (TOs) and carrier frequency offsets (CFOs) on the average output signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) in a frequency selective channel is investigated with a novel approach. First, TOs are partitioned into five cases based on how they occur. Then the mathematical models for different cases are derived. Considering CFOs and benefiting from the obtained models, closed-form expression for the SINR in each case is derived. It is proved that, SINR is independent of the observed subcarrier for the given TO and CFO.     We consider a group of mobile users, in closed proximity, who are interested in downloading a common content (e.g., a video file). We address a cooperative solution where each mobile device is equipped with both cellular and Wi-Fi interfaces.     A novel architecture for efficient time and frequency synchronization, applied to the long-term evolution (LTE) standard, is proposed. For symbol timing, we propose applying a symbol-folding method on top of the sign-bit reduction technique, leading to a novel algorithm for the cyclic prefix-type recognition in LTE. Following the symbol timing, the fractional carrier frequency offset is estimated and compensated using an adaptive gain loop, which allows for a high-accuracy compensation in a short interval.
