Application of Enzymatic Method for Production of Biofuel from Domestic Oily Seed Resources

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Fayyaz, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Kariminia, Hamid Reza (Supervisor) ; Shayegan, Jalaleddin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The enzymatic transesterification of castor oil with methanol in a solvent free media is carried out using lipase catalyst. The influence of several operation conditions on the production of biodiesel was analyzed i.e. the amount of enzyme, molar ratio of methanol to castor oil, reaction temperature and reaction time. It is observed that with increase in molar ratio, reaction time and enzyme amount, the amount of product (biodiesel) increased. When reaction temperature increased, the amount of biodiesel increased firstly and then decreased. The optimum conditions for the reaction were as follows: enzyme amount 300 mg, molar ratio of methanol to oil 9:1 and temperature 55°C. The maximum...

Experimental Evaluation of Optimum Conditions for Biological Production of Biodiesel Using Castor Oil

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ramazani, Safoura (Author) ; Kariminia, Hamid Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study, biodiesel production using enzymatic method for transestrification of castor oil was investigated. It was found that the yield of biodiesel production is affected by methanol to oil molar ratio, temperature, enzyme amount, water content and reaction time. Effective factors were determined first, using two-factorial design method. Methanol to oil molar ratio was found as the most effective factor. Response surface methodology coupled with central composite design was utilized for statistical modeling of enzymatic biodiesel production and the reaction time was found as a non-significant factor. In another attempt, three factors including methanol to oil molar ratio, temperature,...

Effect of different lubricant on microstructure of second cold rolled silicon steel used in transformer core

    , Article Proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Steel Rolling, 15 September 2010 through 17 September 2010, Beijing ; 2010 ; 9787502453596 (ISBN) Eftekhari, S. A ; Akbarzade, A ; Mirahmadi Khaki, D ; Aminnejad, F ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
One of the important parts of each transformer is core. It is made from multilayer silicon steel sheets. Silicon steel has high magnetic permission, high electrical resistance and minimum hysterics loss. In different metal forming process, lubrication is done for reducing friction effects. In this research, effect of 3 different type lubricants, mineral material (castor oil), organic material (glycerol), and semi organic material (paraffin) with and without additive (graphite) is investigated. Also, effect of 2 industrial lubricants (suds and motor oil) is compromised with above lubricants. Results show the best lubricant for second cold rolling of silicon steel is semi organic (paraffin)...

    Abstract
Biodiesel is considered an alternative replacement for petroleum diesel, and enzymatic reaction is one method for biodiesel production. Understanding the kinetics of this reaction is important to achieve higher production rates. The kinetics of transesterification of castor oil using Novozym 435 was investigated in this study. The genetic algorithm was employed for estimation of kinetic parameters including Vmax, KmTG, and KmA in the Ping Pong kinetic model at different temperatures. In most enzymatic reactions that follow the Ping Pong mechanism, inhibition by alcohol has been taken into consideration. Here, we examined a competitive inhibition mechanism and found no inhibition effect at...

    Abstract
Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) was produced from castor oil using washed cells of Lactobacillus plantarum PTCC 1058 and Lactobacillus plantarum subsp. plantarum PTCC1745 as the catalyst. Under the optimal reaction conditions, the washed cells of Lactobacillus plantarum PTCC1058 produced 1661.26 mg of CLA/L reaction mixture (36% yield of production) from 4.6 mg/ml of castor oil after using 15% (w/v) cell for 121 h. The resulting CLA was a mixture of two CLA isomers, cis-9, trans-11 (or trans-9, cis-11)-octadecadienoic acid (CLA1, 44% of total CLA) and trans-10, cis-12-octadecadienoic acid (CLA2, 46% of total CLA). The total production of CLA is extracellular in all of the reactions performed...

Synthesis and characterization of gold nanotube/nanowire-polyurethane composite based on castor oil and polyethylene glycol

    , Article Materials Science and Engineering C ; Vol. 42 , 2014 , pp. 341-349 ; ISSN: 09284931 Ganji, Y ; Kasra,M ; Salahshour Kordestani, S ; Bagheri Hariri, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Gold nanotubes/nanowires (GNT/NW) were synthesized by using the template-assisted electrodeposition technique and mixed with castor oil-polyethylene glycol based polyurethane (PU) to fabricate porous composite scaffolds for biomedical application. 100 and 50 ppm of GNT/NW were used to synthesize composites. The composite scaffolds were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and scanning electron microscopy. Cell attachment on polyurethane-GNT/NW composites was investigated using fat-derived mesenchymal stem cells. Addition of 50 or 100 ppm GNT/NW had significant effects on thermal, mechanical, and cell...
