    Abstract
Recent developments in communication systems and protocols led to the greater attention of energy industry to future smart grids. As one of the key aspects of smart grids, demand response is a promising tool for increasing the capabilities, efficiency, and reliability of power systems. Demand response programs focus on the flexibility potentials in demand, instead of paying full attention to the efficiency of energy system infrastructures. So far, several utilities around the world have planned to realize potential benefits of flexible demand of their consumers. However, participation in most of the programs is dominated by large industrial consumers. This focus on large consumers is mostly...

Inventory Ordering System with Fuzzy Parameters in Supply Chain

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nasiri, Mohsen (Author) ; Hajji, Rasool (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Inventory control has been always considered important due to its prominent role in managing and better application of resources in the field of operational systems. Ordering system or review stock policy in supply chain management can be mentioned as one of the inventory control study fields of management. A lot of researches have been done in investigating ordering system in supply chain under certainty conditions; however, since the real world is full of uncertainties, parameters such as demand cannot be predicted exactly and we encounter with ambiguity. In this case, using crisp (exact) values can cause to decide wrongly (a wrong decision). On the other hand, due to absence of sufficient...

Residential Demand Response Coordination to Enhance Network Reliability

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kabirifar, Milad (Author) ; Fotuhi Firouzabad, Mahmud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Residential demand response is an appropriate control tool for improving system reliability. This project intends to establish a model to activate residential demand response to improve distribution network reliability. Two centralized and decentralized models are proposed. The models aim at minimizing the damage cost imposed by load curtailments following unexpected events. In the models, it is supposed that distribution system operator (DSO) and responsive customers already signed a contract authorizing the DSO alters the operation of responsive appliances whenever system reliability is jeopardized. In centralized framework, Responsive customers deliver the technical data of their...

Optimization of large-scale systems using gradient-type interaction prediction approach

    , Article Electrical Engineering ; Volume 91, Issue 4-5 , 2009 , Pages 301-312 ; 09487921 (ISSN) Sadati, N ; Ramezani, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, a new decomposition-coordination framework is presented for two-level optimal control of large-scale nonlinear systems. In the proposed approach, decomposition is performed by defining an interaction vector, while coordination is based on a new interaction prediction approach. In the first level, sub-problems are solved for nonlinear dynamics using a gradient method, while in the second level, the coordination is done using the gradient of coordination errors. This is in contrast to the conventional gradient-type coordination schemes, where they use the gradient of Lagrangian function. It is shown that the proposed decomposition-coordination framework considerably reduces the...
