The Effects of Composition on Hardness and Toughness of ZrO2-Based Ceramics

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Farooghi, Mohammad (Author) ; Nemati, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is the construction of hard and tough Zirconia bodies from economical raw materials using minimum sintering time and temperature.
Stabilizers cause tetragonal particles to be remained in cubic phase. Most additives are Ca, Ce, Mg and Y ions the whole of which are rare earth elements and make solid solutions with Zirconia.
In this project different percents of CaO, MgO, CeO2, and Y2O3 were mixed with ZrO2 and they were sintered after granulation, cold pressing and Cold Isostatic Pressing. Using jar milling and fast milling, the particle size of purchased ZrO2 was reduced to 0.7 um. The whole needed additives were purchased with particle size below 300 nm....

Leaching, Solvent Extraction and Separation of Cerium, Lanthanum, Neodymium Rare Earth Elements from Apatite Concentrate of Chadormalu Mine

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Ferdowsi, Ali (Author) ; Youzbashizadeh, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Waste of iron ore concentrate production plant of Chadormalu contains apatite mineral. The content of rare earths elements (REEs) in apatite concentrate of Chadormalu is about one percent. However, considering apatite deposite and production rate, extraction of REEs from apatite is one of valuable source for production of REEs. Lanthanum, cerium and neodymium which have most application amonge other REEs and have the highest frequency in the apatite. Due to their similar physical and chemical properties, it is difficult to separate individual rare earths from each other and the separation process are too complicated. In this study, in order to extract REEs from apatite, it was leached by...

Synthesis and Microstructure of Multi Valent Heavily Doped TiO2 Ceramics

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Motahari, Majid (Author) ; Nemati, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this project, the nanostructured titanium oxide with heaily doping of oxides of cerium and tin was synthesized using the sol-gel process and its properties were studied. To synthesize TiO2, titanium tetraisopropoxide precursor was used. Cerium nitrate and aqueous tin chloride precursors were utilized for cerium and tin synthesis. Then, they were mixed with Titania precursor causing a severe doping. After that, a gel was produced and it was aged and eventually, it was dried and calcined. XRD and SEM were used to determine the phase and particle size SEM and XRD results showed that doping had great impact on TiO2 crystals. The approximate size of nanoparticles was calculated using...

an Investigation on REEs' Cerium, Lanthanum, Neodymium leaching from Phosphate Concentrate of Iron Ore Waste in Acidic Environment and Studing Purification and Concentration of the Solution

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Aghaeian, Soroush (Author) ; Yoozbashizadeh, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The term “Rare Earth”, represents 17 metalic elements such as Sc, Y and Lanthanides wich have similar chemical properties. Lanthanides are a group of elements with atomic numbers of 57 to 71 that all of them exept Pm are present in nature. Rare earth elements are never concentrated in a special mine rock, but they could be found in various rocks and at very low concentrations. In the present study, apatite concentrate of Chadormalu was used for leaching and solvent extraction of Cerium, Lanthanum and Neodymium. After leaching step, its optimum conditions were found as follow: 30% nitric acid, 10 mins time and 10% for solid to liquid ratio. After finding optimum conditions, sufficient leach...

Fabrication and Evaluation of Anti-Corrosion Properties of Epoxy/Modified Graphitic Carbon Nitride (g-3N4) Nanocomposite on Mild Steel

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hassanzadeh, Abolfazl (Author) ; Ramazani Saadatabadi, Ahmad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In order to protect the corrosion of steel, a self-healing epoxy nanocomposite containing modified graphite carbon nitride (g-C3N4) and ZIF-67 was made along with benzotriazole (BTA) and cerium inhibitors. To increase the efficiency and also to increase the duration of use of inhibitors, it is better to load these inhibitors on containers such as MOFs. One of the useful MOFs for this purpose is ZIF-67, which has a high specific surface area that allows the transport of inhibitors with high capacity. But these containers fail after some time, so to improve the physical properties of the coating systems, g-C3N4 was also used as a mineral material, which of course was also used as a filler....
