    Abstract
    In this paper, we consider the problem of simulating one copy of a zero-capacity two-way channel from arbitrary many copies of another two-way channel. The motivation for this problem comes from foundation of quantum physics where zero-capacity two-way channels (a.k.a. no-signaling boxes) serve as the abstract objects for studying non-locality. We provide necessary conditions for the possibility of channel simulation using two measures of correlation, namely maximal correlation and hypercontractivity ribbon.     Abstract
    In this thesis, a hardware is designed and implemented for testing the perfoemance of MIMO communication systems in LTE standard using SCM channel model. This hardware can be used for measuring the BER of 2x2 wireless systems. This hardware is the first channel emulator, with hardware implementation which is using SCM channel model and implementation of a similar one has not been reported.In addition to the implementation of the mentioned channel emulator, a new approach is used for implementing a Gaussian variate generator (GVG) which is implemented on both FPGA and ASIC and shows better characteristics in comparison with the works done in the past.     In this paper, we study the problem of channel simulation via interactive communication, known as the coordination capacity, in a two-terminal network. We assume that two terminals observe i.i.d. copies of two random variables and would like to generate i.i.d. copies of two other random variables jointly distributed with the observed random variables. The terminals are provided with two-way communication links, and shared common randomness, all at limited rates.     In this paper, we study the problem of simulating a discrete memoryless channel (DMC) from another DMC under an average-case and an exact model. We present several achievability and infeasibility results, with tight characterizations in special cases. In particular, for the exact model, we fully characterize when a binary symmetric channel can be simulated from a binary erasure channel when there is no shared randomness. We also provide infeasibility and achievability results for the simulation of a binary channel from another binary channel in the case of no shared randomness.     Two new frameworks for achievability proof in network information theory (NIT) are introduced . The first framework which we call it OSRB (Output Statistics of Random Binning) framework, uses random binning arguments and is based on a duality between channel and source coding problems. Furthermore, the OSRB framework uses pmf approximation arguments instead of counting and typicality which are used widely in conventional achievability proofs in NIT. This allows for proving coordination and strong secrecy problems, where certain statistical conditions on the distribution of random variables need to be satisfied.     Expressions of several capacity regions in quantum information theory involve an optimization over auxiliary quantum registers. Evaluating such expressions requires bounds on the dimension of the Hilbert space of these auxiliary registers, for which no nontrivial technique is known; we lack a quantum analog of the Carathéodory theorem. In this paper, we develop a new non-Carathéodory-type tool for evaluating expressions involving a single quantum auxiliary register and several classical random variables.     Reliability and security are two important subjects in modern digital communications. A secure channel coding scheme provides both of reliability and security in one process to combat problems in an unreliable and insecure channel.     This paper presents a new and ubiquitous framework for establishing achievability results in network information theory (NIT) problems. The framework is used to prove various new results. To express the main tool, consider a set of discrete memoryless correlated sources (DMCS). Assume that each source (except one, Z n) is randomly binned at a finite rate. We find sufficient conditions on these rates such that the bin indices are nearly mutually independent of each other and of Z n. This is used in conjunction with the Slepian-Wolf (S-W) result to set up the framework.     Inertial particle focusing as a powerful passive method is widely used in diagnostic test devices. It is common to use a curved channel in this approach to achieve particle focusing through balancing of the secondary flow drag force and the inertial lift force. Here, we present a focusing device on a disk based on the interaction of secondary flow drag force, inertial lift force, and centrifugal forces to focus particles. By choosing a channel whose cross section has a low aspect ratio, the mixing effect of the secondary flow becomes negligible.
