Abstract
An accurate thermal model to predict the heat generation in rechargeable batteries is an essential tool for advanced thermal management in high power applications, such as electric vehicles. For such applications, the battery materials' details and cell design are normally not provided. In this work a simple, though accurate, thermal model for batteries has been developed, considering the temperature- and current-dependent overpotential heat generation and State-of-Charge dependent entropy contributions. High power rechargeable Li-ion (7.5 Ah) batteries have been experimentally investigated and the results are used for model verification. It is shown that the State-of-Charge dependent...

Abstract
The controlled growth of metal oxide nanostructures within hierarchically porous conductive carbon-based frameworks is critically important to achieving high volumetric performance and appropriate channel size for energy storage applications. Herein, we grow cobalt oxide (Co3O4) nanoflakes, using a sequential-electrodeposition process, into spherically porous sponge-like few-layer partially reduced graphene oxide (SrGO) synthesized by template-directed ordered assembly. Maximum specific/volumetric capacitances of 1112 F gCo3O4-1 (at 3.3 A gCo3O4-1), 178 F cm-3 (at 2.6 A cm-2), and 406 F gtotal-1 (at 1 A gtotal-1) and sensible rate capability (80% retention by increasing the charge/discharge...

Abstract
Layers of cobalt and manganese oxides were co-deposited or deposited on top of each other or next to each other by potentiostatic method onto stainless steel substrate. Deposition potentials of 1 and -1 V for the anodic and cathodic depositions were employed. Specific capacitance values in the range of 38.5-78 F g -1 were found with cobalt oxide on top of manganese oxide having the lowest and manganese oxide on top of cobalt oxide having the highest capacitances. The usefulness of the electrodes was characterized by cyclic voltammetry, charge-discharge cycling, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in 2 M NaOH electrolyte for redox supercapacitor applications. The latter presented the...

Abstract
This paper proposes a novel optimization based home load control (HLC) to manage the operation periods of responsive electrical appliances, determine several recommended operation periods for nonresponsive appliances, and schedule the charge/discharge cycling of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) considering various customer preferences. The customer preferences are in the format of payment cost, interruption cost, and different operational constraints. The projected algorithm is online, in which household appliances are initially scheduled based on the payment cost, and when the home load is interrupted, the scheduling will be updated to minimize customer interruption cost. Due to...
Role of nitrogen doping at the surface of titanium nitride thin films towards capacitive charge storage enhancement

Abstract
We recently reported an impressive cycling stability (over 20,000 cycles) of titanium nitride (TiN) electrodes with high specific capacitance. It is anticipated that nitrogen (β−N) doping in the oxidized surface of TiN film plays a crucial role in charge storage mechanism and stability of this material. In this work, we offer an evidence on the effect of β−N doping on improvement in specific capacitance of vacuum annealed TiN thin films. The annealing of the TiN films leads to the diffusion of the excess β−N from sub-surface to oxidized TiN film surface without further oxidation of the electrode surface. We demonstrate an increase in the TiN areal capacitance upon an increase in the amount...

Abstract
The development of high performance supercapacitors with high energy densities without sacrificing power densities has always been at the leading edge of the emerging field of renewable energy. Herein, the design and fabrication of innovative high performance binder-free electrodes consisting of coiled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and biomass-derived hydrothermal carbon spheres (HTCSs) as, respectively, positive and negative electrodes is reported. High performance asymmetric supercapacitors (ASCs) were developed using novel 3D core/shell-like binary Ni-Co oxide (NCO) decorated coiled CNTs directly grown on Ni nano-cone arrays (NCAs) and HTCSs directly deposited on NCAs. Novel 3D structures of...

Abstract
Recently, development of advanced materials of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has attracted attention for the fabrication of supercapacitors (SCs) because of their high surface area and high level of porosity. However, poor electrical conductivity and weak mechanical properties of the MOFs have restricted their applications in the field. In this study, a one-step, in-situ synthesis of Cobalt-based MOF with graphene (CoMG nanocomposite) was employed to overcome the poor properties of MOFs. Accordingly, when the nanocomposite (CoMG5) was use as a supercapacitor electrode material, a specific capacitance (CS) of 549.96 F g−1 was observed in a three-electrode system with 6 M KOH electrolyte...

Abstract
Imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) have been perceived as a promising candidate for bridging polyaniline (PANI) on well-dispersed carbon nanotubes (CNTs) via formation of IL-stabilized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) dispersion in which outer walls of CNTs, as well as benzene rings of the aniline monomer and the growing polymer, have been potently effective in such procurement. The sulfonated water-soluble PANI-[C16C1im]Cl-MWCNT nanocomposites (SPANI-IL-MWCNTs) are directly deposited on a graphite-based current collector using a simple and cost-effective electrophoretic deposition (EPD) method. The SPANI-IL-MWCNT electrodes exhibit remarkable electrochemical performance compared to...

Abstract
We hereby demonstrate symmetric and asymmetric supercapacitors (SSCs and ASCs) based on core/shell-like Ni-Co oxide@cotton//Fe2O3-carbon nanotubes@cotton that are capable of storing a remarkable amount of energy, while retaining a high power density and long cycle life. Hierarchical, porous structures of Ni-Co-O nano-rod (NR) decorated Pd-activated cotton fibers (CFs) were fabricated using an eco-benign hydrothermal method and directly used as the cathode of the supercapacitors. Fe2O3-single-wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT) decorated CFs were employed as anodes of the fabricated ASCs. The assembled Ni-Co-O@cotton//Fe2O3-SWCNTs@cotton based ASCs possessed the benefits of a relatively high energy...
