Synthesis and Evaluation of Carbon based Catalyst for HDS Process of Refinery Products

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Hajjar, Zeinab (Author) ; Kazemini, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Rashidi, Alimorad (Supervisor) ; Bazmi, Mansour (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
One of the most important world issues is environmental constraints regarding the pollutants released by transportation fuels and refinery products, sulfur reduction being one of the most significant objectives. Deep hydrodesulfurization processes result in great sulfur reduction in refinery streams. However, such harsh process conditions increase undesired side reactions and facilitate coke formation as well as affecting the surfaces. More effective alternatives for hard process conditions are highly active and selective hydrodesulfurization catalysts, which enable the process to be performed at milder pressure and reaction conditions. Catalyst bases play a very important role in hydrogen...

Reduction of Graphene Oxide by Polyphenols of Green Tea in the Presence of Oxidation of Transition Metals

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghiasi Shirazi, Mohammad Amin (Author) ; Akhavan, Omid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research, we have used green tea polyphenols as green reductants for reduction of graphene oxide. Furthermore, for the first time, the presence of some metals such as iron, tungsten and copper in the efficiency of reduction is investigated. XPS spectra indicate that iron can be considered as one of the best choices for helping polyphenols in the reduction process. Hence, we used AFM, XPS, Raman spectroscopy and I-V diagram to characterize graphene oxide reduced by polyphenols and iron. In recent years, hydrazine has been recognized as one of the standard reducing agents for effective reduction of graphene oxide. In our analysis, it is found that the conductivity of our reduced...

In situ and simultaneous synthesis of a novel graphene-based catalyst for deep hydrodesulfurization of naphtha

    , Article Catalysis Letters ; Volume 145, Issue 9 , September , 2015 , Pages 1660-1672 ; 1011372X (ISSN) Hajjar, Z ; Kazemeini, M ; Rashidi, A ; Bazmi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Kluwer Academic Publishers  2015
    Abstract
In this research, a novel graphene-supported catalyst was prepared through which, a simultaneous chemical exfoliation of graphite and MoS2 powder performed preparing a new composite species and evaluated for the hydrodesulfurization reaction of naphtha and no sulfidation pretreatment was performed upon the catalyst. Also, the influences of the operating parameters such as temperature, and liquid hourly space velocity on HDS conversion evaluated. (Chemical Equation Presented)

Visible light-induced photocatalytic reduction of graphene oxide by tungsten oxide thin films

    , Article Applied Surface Science ; Volume 276 , 2013 , Pages 628-634 ; 01694332 (ISSN) Choobtashani, M ; Akhavan, O ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Tungsten oxide thin films (deposited by thermal evaporation or sol gel method) were used for photocatalytic reduction of graphene oxide (GO) platelets (synthesized through a chemical exfoliation method) on surface of the films under UV or visible light of the environment, in the absence of any aqueous ambient at room temperature. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) technique was employed to characterize surface morphology of the GO sheets and the tungsten oxide films. Moreover, using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), chemical state of the tungsten oxide films and the photocatalytic reduction of the GO platelets were quantitatively investigated. The better performance of the sol-gel tungsten...
