    Abstract
In MEMS gyroscopes, it is essential to use matched resonance frequencies of the drive and sense vibrational modes for improving the sensitivity. For this end, the natural frequencies can be tuned by voltages. In this study, a new model is utilized to determine the natural frequencies of the doubly clamped beam microgyroscope. In the model, nonlinear electrostatic forces, fringing fields and mid-plane stretching of thebeam are considered. The system is actuated and sensed by electrostatic force and its natural frequencies and stiffness are detuned by DC voltages. The oscillatory problem of the gyroscope is analytically solved versus DC voltages for different design parameters. Copyright

    Abstract
One of the most important phenomena related to electrically actuated micro and nano electromechanical systems (MEMSNEMS) is dynamic pull-in instability which occurs when the electrical attraction and beam inertia forces are more than elastic restoring force of the beam. According to failure of classical mechanics constitutive equations in prediction of dynamic behavior of small size systems, nonlocal theory is implemented here to analyze the dynamic pull-in behavior. Equation of motion of an electrostatically actuated micro to nano scale doubly clamped beam is rewritten using differential form of nonlocal theory constitutive equation. To analyze the nonlocal effect equation of motion is...

    Abstract
In this paper, an alternative way of harvesting energy from ambient vibration is investigated through proposing a novel inertial energy harvester using magnetic shape memory alloys (MSMAs). To this end, a clamped-clamped beam is coupled with MSMA units which are attached to its roots. A shock load is applied to a proof mass in the middle of the beam. The beam vibration causes longitudinal strain in the MSMAs and as a result the magnetic flux alters in the coils wounding around the MSMA units and produce an AC voltage. To have a reversible strain in MSMAs, a bias magnetic field is applied in transverse direction of the MSMA units. The large scale vibration of Euler-Bernoulli beam is modeled...

    Abstract
Electrostatically actuated beams are fundamental blocks of many different nano and micro electromechanical devices. Accurate design of these devices strongly relies on recognition of static and dynamic behavior and response of mechanical components. Taking into account the effect of internal forces between material particles nonlocal theories become highly important. In this paper nonlinear vibration of a microano doubly clamped and cantilever beam under electric force is investigated using nonlocal continuum mechanics theory. Implementing differential form of nonlocal constitutive equation the nonlinear partial differential equation of motion is reformulated. The equation of motion is...

    , Article ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, Proceedings, 13 November 2009 through 19 November 2009 ; Volume 12, Issue PART A , 2010 , Pages 487-494 ; 9780791843857 (ISBN) Mojahedi, M ; Moeenfard, H ; Ahmadian, M. T ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this study, static deflection and Instability of double- clamped nanobeams actuated by electrostatic field and intermolecular force, are investigated. The model accounts for the electric force nonlinearity of the excitation and for the fringing field effect. Effects of mid-plane stretching and axial loading are considered. Galerkin's decomposition method is utilized to convert the nonlinear differential equation of motion to a nonlinear algebraic equation which is solved using the homotopy perturbation method. The effect of the design parameters such as axial load and mid-plane stretching on the static responses and pull-in instability is discussed. Results are in good agreement with...
