Optimization of Condenser Online Cleaning System

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hatami, Dadbeh (Author) ; Taghizadeh Manzari, Mehrdad (Supervisor) ; Sadrhosseini, Hani (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In water service processes, tubular heat exchangers are commonly used to provide a heat transfer medium for cooling or heating of which both are subject to fouling of heat transfer surfaces. The deposit would dominantly build up in form of fouling, crystallization, and or particulate fouling depending on the operating and surface conditions. This, in turn, may result in more demand for excessive energy consumption due to higher pumping requirements, as well as for offsetting the impact of fouling. Introducing the subject of the on-line condenser tube cleaning system as a most effective way of encountering with deposits and its components, the difficulties encountered during operation and...

    Abstract
Heterogeneous photocatalytic reactions have experienced many efforts in developing new materials to tackle environmental and energy crises through utilizing appropriate photocatalysts in wastewater treatment, H2 generation, organic transformations, CO2 reduction, N2 photofixation, and biomass conversion. While these processes are addressed in the literature separately, a recent innovative viewpoint is to employ a photocatalytic system to achieve simultaneously two or more functions. The challenging point is that the combination of two functions in one photocatalytic system requires a novel design and engineering of an appropriate semiconductor photocatalyst with special characteristics for...

    Abstract
The current work deals with the catalytic application of bis(1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium) tungstate ([BMIm]2WO4) for green synthesize of glutaric acid (GA) through oxidative cleavage of cyclopentene. In this method, 30% hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was used as oxidant with water as the sole by-product of the reaction. Compared to the current synthetic procedures, this protocol is significantly improved in the environmental point of view. Moreover, the effect of the various parameters was investigated on the reaction efficiency. It was found that high yield of GA could obtain without using special methodologies or precautions. The catalytic system is reusable for several times

    Abstract
The durability of novel metallic artifacts and buildings is an open issue, and the role of smart protecting coatings in extending these artifacts’ lifetimes is crucial. In this paper, the role of γ-Fe2 O3 nanoparticles and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets on enhancing the self-cleaning properties of composite TiO2 films and reducing metal alterations due to contact with acid rain and pollutants is investigated. The photocatalytic assessment of the TiO2 based films indicates that there are optimum contents for γ-Fe2 O3 and rGO, which confer the film lower bandgap and tune the TiO2 anatase/rutile ratio. By adding a proper content of γ-Fe2 O3, wettability is reduced both in dark and...

Numerical Modeling of Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical Behavior of Deep Geothermal Reservoirs

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bannae Sharifian, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Pak, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
All societies need energy to meet the basic needs of the people and to carry out the production processes. From 1850 onwards, the global use of fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas) for energy production increased, leading to a dramatic increase in the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere. Rising carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere and seeing adverse effects such as global warming have prompted the international community to replace fossil fuels with clean energy as much as possible. Geothermal energy as one of the clean, sustainable and extensive sources can be one of the available solutions to meet this need.Numerical modeling of geothermal...

    Abstract
Physical separation methods, especially membrane technology, can be a good substitute for biological wastewater treatment, due to its simple constructions and operations. There are many papers and patents in this field. Membranes need to be cleaned periodically to be able to operate economically, and need to be replaced after a while. Several factors can influence the membrane cleaning procedure, including pressure of backwash, acid and base concentration, duration of forward washing, and duration of acid-base backwashing. In this study the effect of these parameters was investigated to find an optimum condition which could result in a good polyethersulphone (PES) membrane cleaning with less...

    Abstract
In this research, the airflow pattern and particle dispersion in a contaminated full-scale cleanroom are investigated numerically using both Eulerian and Lagrangian approaches. Three different supply diffuser configurations namely (1) central, (2) horizontal and (3) vertical and three different exhaust grille configurations namely (4) vertical symmetric, (5) asymmetric and (6) horizontal symmetric are selected for the analysis. The presented results reveal that the supply/exhaust openings arrangement has a significant influence on the particulate contaminant dispersion in the cleanrooms. The comparison of the above different supply diffuser configurations shows that the vertical and...

    Abstract
A novel nebulizing spray hydrolysis approach was used for preparation of semi-transparent superhydrophobic coatings. Methyltrimethoxysilane was dissolved in water:ethanol mixture and ultrasonically sprayed on different substrates. Superhydrophobic coatings with a contact angle (CA) as high as 164° and a sliding angle below 5° were obtained. FESEM and AFM revealed a hierarchical micro-nano binary structure with nanometric roughness of the coatings. The coated glass substrate exhibited transmittance close to 80%. The prepared coating showed great self-cleaning and water jet repellency behaviors. The superhydrophobicity of the samples was remained after subjecting to ambient conditions for 50...

    Abstract
Despite a substantial potential of renewable energy sources, the current energy supply system in Iran relies almost entirely on fossil fuel resources. It has imposed significant financial burden on the country and has led to considerable GHG emissions. Moreover, the country is confronting several challenges for harnessing alternative clean energy sources and promoting rational energy policies over the recent decades. To probe the root cause of these problems, this paper first provides an overview on the previous energy planning attempts in Iran. It shows that adequate commitment to a long-term energy planning could have meaningfully prevented these serious challenges. However, the previous...

    Abstract
Asdefined by Nicholson [W. K. Nicholson. (1977). Lifting idempotents and exchange rings. Trans. Amer. Math. soc. 229: 269-278] an element of a ring is clean if it is the sum of a unit and an idempotent, and a subset of is clean if every element of is clean. In this thesis some like-cleanness properties are introduced and relations between them are investigated. Many equivalent conditions for cleanness of reduced, semiprimitive Gelfand and functional rings are obtained, and finally these results are applied in the rings of continuous functions
