Background: A few clinical trials have examined the effect of treatment interventions on postural control in patients with chronic low back pain, all of which have exclusively evaluated postural stability using traditional linear measures of postural sway. However, postural control improvement cannot be determined by exclusively relying on linear measurements, because these parameters provide no information on underlying motor control mechanisms. Objective: This study aimed to compare the effect of using lumbosacral orthoses (LSO) together with routine physical therapy, compared to routine physical therapy alone on postural control, using nonlinear analysis techniques. Methods: Forty-four...

Background: Measuring routine childhood vaccination is crucial to inform global vaccine policies and programme implementation, and to track progress towards targets set by the Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP) and Immunization Agenda 2030. Robust estimates of routine vaccine coverage are needed to identify past successes and persistent vulnerabilities. Drawing from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2020, Release 1, we did a systematic analysis of global, regional, and national vaccine coverage trends using a statistical framework, by vaccine and over time. Methods: For this analysis we collated 55 326 country-specific, cohort-specific, year-specific,...
Evaluating a new verbal working memory-balance program: a double-blind, randomized controlled trial study on Iranian children with dyslexia, Article BMC Neuroscience ; Volume 22, Issue 1 , 2021 ; 14712202 (ISSN) ; Behzadipour, S ; Pourghayoomi, E ; Joghataei, M. Background: It is important to improve verbal Working Memory (WM) in reading disability, as it is a key factor in learning. There are commercial verbal WM training programs, which have some short-term effects only on the verbal WM capacity, not reading. However, because of some weaknesses in current verbal WM training programs, researchers suggested designing and developing newly structured programs that particularly target educational functions such as reading skills. In the current double-blind randomized clinical trial study, we designed a new Verbal Working Memory-Balance (VWM-B) program which was carried out using a portable robotic device. The short-term effects of the VWM-B program,...
Lower extremity kinematic analysis in male athletes with unilateral anterior cruciate reconstruction in a jump-landing task and its association with return to sport criteria, Article BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders ; Volume 20, Issue 1 , 2019 ; 14712474 (ISSN) ; Esfandiarpour, F ; Mehdizadeh, S ; Yousefzadeh, N. Background: Return to sport (RTS) criteria are widely being used to identify anterior cruciate ligament reconstructed (ACLR) athletes ready to return to sportive activity and reduce risk of ACL re-injury. However, studies show a high rate of ACL re-injury in athletes who passed RTS criteria. This indicates that the current RTS criteria might not be sufficient to determine return to sport time in ACLR athletes. Previous studies have reported a close association between altered lower limb kinematics and ACL re-injury. However, it is not clear how lower extremity kinematics differs between ACLR athletes who passed the RTS-criteria and who failed. This study compared lower extremity kinematics...
A pilot study of the effect of phospholipid curcumin on serum metabolomic profile in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, Article European Journal of Clinical Nutrition ; Volume 73, Issue 9 , 2019 , Pages 1224-1235 ; 09543007 (ISSN) ; Mirhafez, S. Background/Objectives: Curcumin, a natural polyphenol compound in the spice turmeric, has been found to have potent anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory activity. Curcumin may treat non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) through its beneficial effects on biomarkers of oxidative stress (OS) and inflammation, which are considered as two feature of this disease. However, the effects of curcumin on NAFLD have been remained poorly understood. This investigation evaluated the effects of administrating curcumin on metabolic status in NAFLD patients. Subjects/Methods: Fifty-eight NAFLD patients participated in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled parallel design of study. The subjects...
A new insight to deformability correlation of circulating tumor cells with metastatic behavior by application of a new deformability-based microfluidic chip, Article Analytica Chimica Acta ; Volume 1186 , 2021 ; 00032670 (ISSN) ; Khorasheh, F ; Alemzadeh, I ; Vossoughi, M ; Sharif University of Technology

Isolation and characterization of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) found in blood samples of cancer patients have been considered as a reliable source for cancer prognosis and diagnosis. A new continuous microfluidic platform has been designed in this investigation for simultaneous capture and characterization of CTCs based on their deformability. The deformability-based chip (D-Chip) consists of two sections of separation and characterization where slanted weirs with a gap of 7 μm were considered. Although sometimes CTCs and leukocytes have the same size, the deformability differs in such a way that can be exploited for enrichment purposes. MCF7 and MDA-MB-231 cell lines were used for the...
An interactive cbir system based on anfis learning scheme for human brain magnetic resonance images retrieval, Article Biomedical Engineering - Applications, Basis and Communications ; Volume 24, Issue 1 , 2012 , Pages 27-36 ; 10162372 (ISSN) ; Fatemizadeh, E ; Badie, K ; Sharif University of Technology
Content-based image retrieval (CBIR) has turned into an important and active potential research field with the advance of multimedia and imaging technology. It makes use of image features, such as color, texture and shape, to index images with minimal human intervention. A CBIR system can be used to locate medical images in large databases. In this paper we propose a CBIR system which describes the methodology for retrieving digital human brain magnetic resonance images (MRI) based on textural features and the Adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) learning to retrieve similar images from database in two categories: normal and tumoral. A fuzzy classifier has been used, because of the...

The magnetic composite hydrogel was fabricated by the graft copolymerization of itaconic acid (IA) onto starch and Alginic acid in the presence graphene sheets (Gr) and Fe3O4 nanoparticles (Fe3O4@Gr-IA/St-Alg) for Guaifenesin (GFN) delivery and wound healing. The Fe3O4@Gr-IA/St-Alg biomaterial is a hydrogel network endowed the material with magnetic property. In addition, GFN not only achieved effectively bound to the magnetic hydrogel, but also released in a controlled manner. The using external magnetic field has significantly positive influence on the drug release rate. To close, these hydrogel drug carriers offer a favorable platform for magnetically targeted drug delivery as well as a...
