    , Article Surface and Coatings Technology ; Volume 216 , 2013 , Pages 207-214 ; 02578972 (ISSN) Asnavandi, M ; Ghorbani, M ; Kahram, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Cu-Sn composites incorporated with graphite and/or SiC particles were produced by electrodeposition technique. The effect of particle concentration in the plating bath and current density on tin content and volume percentage of particles in the coatings has been investigated. Structure, morphology, micro hardness and wear properties of the coatings have been studied. The results showed that particles cause an increase of tin content in the plated Cu-Sn. Graphite and silicon carbide particles had different effects on coating hardness; 7.8. vol.% graphite decreased the hardness of Cu-Sn layer from 231. Hv to 172. Hv whereas, 5.1. vol.% SiC raised the hardness to 316. Hv. Moreover, friction...

A comparison between the corrosion resistances of High Velocity Oxy Fuel (HVOF) sprayed coatings and hard chromium coatings

    , Article Materials Science Forum, 1 September 2010 through 3 September 2010, Seoul ; Volume 673 , 2011 , Pages 173-178 ; 02555476 (ISSN) ; 9783037850183 (ISBN) Saghi Beyragh, M. R ; Khameneh Asl, S ; Vasfpour, R ; Tazesh, F ; Khallagi, P ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
HVOF-sprayed coatings (WC-17%Co) and hard chromium coatings corrosion resistances have been compared through electrochemical polarization test in 3.5% NaCl solution. WC-17%Co alloy coatings were deposited on mild steel substrates by High Velocity Oxy-Fuel (HVOF) spray process. The layers of standard and crack free hard chromium coatings were prepared by using Direct Current (DC) and Pulse Current (PC) electroplating process on the mild steel substrates. Hard chromium coatings was characterized as a reference material, to verify whether HVOF-sprayed coatings are suitable as a hard chromium coatings replacement. The microstructure of the coatings was examined by OM, SEM and XRD. Standard hard...

    Abstract
In order to produce a thick near equi-atomic NiTi intermetallic layer on the surface of titanium plate, layers of nickel with thicknesses of 30 μm and 60 μm were electroplated on commercial pure (Cp) titanium and subsequently were heat treated at 850°C and 900°C. The effects of heat treating temperature and the thickness of electroplated nickel on the evolution of the microstructure and mechanical properties were studied. The results confirm the formation of various intermetallic layers in the coatings that substantially affect their hardness. The optimum condition for the formation of a thick NiTi intermetallic layer on the outer surface of the titanium was diffusion treatment of the sample...

The effect of heat treatment on properties of Ni–P–SiO2 nano-composite coating

    , Article Protection of Metals and Physical Chemistry of Surfaces ; Volume 52, Issue 3 , 2016 , Pages 492-499 ; 20702051 (ISSN) Sadreddini, S ; Afshar, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this study, the surface morphology of Ni–P–SiO2 composite coating was investigated by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). The amount of SiO2 in the coating was examined by energy dispersive analysis of X-ray (EDX) and the Corrosion behavior of coating was evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and polarization techniques, showing the corrosion resistance of Ni–P–SiO2 diminished after heat treatment. The results showed that in the coating with 12.5 g/L SiO2, the coating hardness enhanced from 453VH to 980 VH before and after heat treatment. Furthermore, the wear behavior of the coating was analyzed before and after heat treatment

Evaluation and selection of optimal oxygen/fuel ratio for best mechanical properties, oxidation resistance and microstructure of HVOF NiCoCrAlY coatings using AHP–VIKOR method

    , Article Oxidation of Metals ; 2017 , Pages 1-23 ; 0030770X (ISSN) Salehi Doolabi, M ; Ghasemi, B ; Sadrnezhaad, S. K ; Habibolahzadeh, A ; Jafarzadeh, K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Abstract: This work describes coating of NiCoCrAlY on IN-738LC superalloy by high-velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) process. Properties of the coatings are significantly influenced by oxygen/fuel ratio and other spraying parameters. The effect of oxygen/fuel ratio on the oxidation behavior, bond strength, hardness, roughness and microstructure including porosity, inclusion formation and unmelted particles are discussed here. The porosity and inclusion in C1 coating are maximal. C2 coating with oxygen/fuel ratio of 2 has the highest bond strength and the lowest unmelted particles. C3 coating with the lowest total porosity and inclusion has the minimal roughness and the highest oxidation resistance...

    Abstract
The most common reasons for hard-tissue implant failure are structural loosening and prosthetic infections. Hence, in this study, to overcome the first problem, different bioinspired coatings, including dual acid-etched, anodic TiO2 nanotubes array, anodic hierarchical titanium oxide (HO), micro- and nanostructured hydroxyapatite (HA) layers, and HA/chitosan (HA/CS) nanocomposite, were applied to the titanium alloy surfaces. X-ray diffraction and FTIR analysis demonstrated that the in situ HA/CS nanocomposite formed successfully. The MTT assay showed that all samples had excellent cell viability, with cell proliferation rates ranging from 120% to 150% after 10 days. The HO coating...
