    Abstract
In this paper we evaluate the performance of a spectrally-phase-encoded-OCDMA system using a receiver structure based on second harmonic generation effect. We approximate the decision variable moment generating function and obtain the error probability using saddle-point approximation. The impact of different parameters, e.g., code length, and photodetectors' speed, is studied. © 2009 OSA/ACP 2009

Cryptanalysis of McEliece cryptosystem variants based on quasi-cyclic low-density parity check codes

    Abstract
One of the approaches to modify the McEliece cryptosystem to overcome its large key size is replacing binary Goppa codes with a new structured code. However, this modification makes such cryptosystems encounter some new attacks. There are a few modified McEliece cryptosystem variants which are known to be secure. One of them is the cryptosystem introduced by Baldi et al. which uses quasi-cyclic low-density parity check (QC-LDPC) codes. This cryptosystem is still unbroken as no efficient attack has been reported against it since 2008. In this study, an attack has been applied to this cryptosystem which is feasible when the code length is a multiple of a power of 2. Also an important weakness...

    Non-coherent UWB receiver for multi-level spectrally-encoded spread-time CDMA systems

    , Article Proceedings of the International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems, 28 August 2012 through 31 August 2012 ; August , 2012 , Pages 1069-1073 ; 21540217 (ISSN) ; 9781467307604 (ISBN) Hosseinianfar, H ; Mashhadi, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Nowadays, ultra-wideband (UWB) communication systems are in focus because of their attractive features such as high capacity, low power consumption and robustness against fading. On the other hand, spectrally-encoded spread-time (SE/ST) systems with superior ability on interference suppression provide proper multiuser efficiency over UWB channels. Coherent SE/ST code division multiple access (CDMA) systems are widely addressed in the literature requiring accurate channel estimation and high implementation complexity. In this paper we propose multi-level SE/ST CDMA system with non-coherent detection and simple receiver structure. Our results demonstrate the effect of signal to noise ratio...

Multirate and multi-quality-of-service passive optical network based on hybrid WDM/OCDM system

    , Article IEEE Communications Magazine ; Volume 49, Issue 2 , February , 2011 , Pages S39-S44 ; 01636804 (ISSN) Beyranvand, H ; Salehi, J. A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this article we present a new scheme to support multirate and multi-quality-of-service transmission in passive optical networks based on a hybrid wavelength-division multiplexing/ optical code-division multiplexing scheme. The idea is to use multilength variable-weight optical orthogonal codes as signature sequences of a hybrid WDM/OCDM system. To provide the requested classes of service, the code weight and code length of MLVW-OOCs are designed based on the characteristics of the requested classes of service. In order to mitigate multiple access interference, we propose to utilize a multilevel signaling technique and interference remover structure based on advanced optical logic gate...

A practical approach for coherent signal surveillance and blind parameter assessment in asynchoronous DS-CDMA systems in multipath channel

    , Article Proceedings - 2010 18th Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering, ICEE 2010, 11 May 2010 through 13 May 2010 ; 2010 , Pages 305-310 ; 9781424467600 (ISBN) Samsami Khodadad, F ; Ganji, F ; Aref, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A novel, robust and practical method for active user enumeration in asynchronous CDMA in multipath channel condition is proposed in this paper. Most of the previous works do not consider the fact that in practical case, user's signals with the help of receiver arrive asynchronously. The proposed method can be used practically in blind multi-user detection such as eavesdropping; moreover, the method is based on information theory criteria which outperform other methods. Minimum description length (MDL) has better performance than all other information criteria used in such scenarios. Unlike most of the pervious works, we do not exploit array antenna to gather necessary data of the users....

Mathematical modeling and statistical analysis of SPE-OCDMA systems utilizing second harmonic generation effect in thick crystal receivers

    , Article Proceedings of SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering ; Volume 7631 , 2009 ; 0277786X (ISSN) Matinfar, M. D ; Salehi, J. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper we analytically study and evaluate the performance of a Spectral-Phase-Encoded Optical CDMA system for different parameters such as the user's code length and the number of users in the network. In this system an advanced receiver structure in which the Second Harmonic Generation effect imposed in a thick crystal is employed as the nonlinear pre-processor prior to the conventional low speed photodetector. We consider ASE noise of the optical amplifiers, effective in low power conditions, besides the multiple access interference (MAI) noise which is the dominant source of noise in any OCDMA communications system. We use the results of the previous work which we analyzed the...
