    Abstract
Application of Cogeneration systems based gas turbine for heat and power production is increasing. Because of finite natural energy resources and increasing energy demand the cost effective design of energy systems is essential. CGAM problem as a cogeneration system is considered here for analyzing. Two new approaches are considered, first in thermodynamic model of gas turbine and cogeneration system considering blade cooling of gas turbine and second using genetic algorithm for optimization. The problem has been optimized from thermodynamic and Thermoeconomic view point. Results show that Turbine Inlet Temperature (TIT) in thermodynamic optimum condition is higher than thermoeconomic one,...

    Abstract
In this paper, the application of neural networks for simulation and optimization of the cogeneration systems has been presented. CGAM problem, a benchmark in cogeneration systems, is chosen as a case study. Thermodynamic model includes precise modeling of the whole plant. For simulation of the steady sate behavior, the static neural network is applied. Then using dynamic neural network, plant is optimized thermodynamically. Multi layer feed forward neural networks is chosen as static net and recurrent neural networks as dynamic net. The steady state behavior of CGAM problem is simulated by MFNN. Subsequently, it is optimized by dynamic net. Results of static net have excellence agreement...

Developing of constructal theory concept to the total site cogeneration heat and power retrofit

    , Article International Journal of Exergy ; Volume 17, Issue 2 , 2015 , Pages 171-191 ; 17428297 (ISSN) Ghazi, M ; Amidpour, M ; Abbaspour, M ; Farzaneh, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Inderscience Enterprises Ltd  2015
    Abstract
In this paper, a novel method of retrofit design in total site cogeneration systems based on constructal theory is presented. In this regard, the total site cogeneration system is decomposed into three constructs: turbines, turbine arrays, and steam generators. The objective function to be minimised is the total annual cost of existing total site. Using constructal theory simplifies the optimisation procedure of total site in addition to reaching better conceptual design especially in more sophisticated systems. A case study from literatures has been taken up to examine the applicability of the algorithm and excellent agreement has been observed. Copyright

    , Article 2014 14th International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering, EEEIC 2014 - Conference Proceedings ; 2014 , p. 199-203 ; ISBN: 9781480000000 Rastegar, M ; Fotuhi-Firuzabad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The presence of different energy carriers as well as the advent of new multi-generation technologies such as combined heat and power (CHP) at homes necessitates designing an integrated model for optimal operation of such multi-carrier energy home. A residential energy hub model including a CHP and a Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is presented in this paper to show the multi-carrier energy system operation. In addition, this paper proposes an optimization-based formulation for PHEV charging control in the residential energy hub. The payment cost is minimized for the charge scheduling of PHEV through optimization of the residential energy hub operation in response to the...

    Abstract
Energy hub as a super node in electrical distribution level has strong potential to receive energy in various carriers and after convert and store, satisfy hub required demands. On the other hand, CO2 emission and fossil fuels reduction raise up the need for integration of renewable based electricity generation such as wind and solar to energy hubs. In this paper, economical operation of energy hub including, stochastic wind generation, Combined Heat and Power (CHP) unit, boiler, and heat and electricity storages are modelled and analyzed. Responsive loads are used for more flexibility of the studied energy hub. Numerical result is observed through GAMS software to serve a commercial load in...

Component and mode models for the short-term scheduling of combined-cycle units

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Power Systems ; Volume 24, Issue 2 , 2009 , Pages 976-990 ; 08858950 (ISSN) Liu, C ; Shahidehpour, M ; Li, Z ; Fotuhi Firuzabad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
We propose a component model for the scheduling of combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) units by mixed-integer programming (MIP) in which combustion turbines (CTs) and steam turbines (STs) are modeled as individual units. The hourly schedule of CCGT based on the component model is compared with that of the mode model. The modeling of modes, which includes a combination of CTs and STs, would require certain approximations for representing fuel input-power output curves, ramping rate limits, minimum operating time limits, etc. The approximations can result in sub-optimal schedules. Furthermore, the commitment and dispatch of CCGTs based on the mode model will require a real-time dispatch to...

    Abstract
This paper proposes a robust investment and operation model to attend the power and heat needs of a microgrid (MG) connected to the distribution system. The optimization algorithm decides on the best investment and operation of combined heat and power (CHP), boilers, PV power generation and battery energy storage systems (BESS). For the BESS, the algorithm estimates the optimal energy storage capacity (MWh) as well as the maximum hourly delivery capacity (MW). The non-linear and non-concave heat rate chart is recast by a mix-integer linear model to have a tractable and precise model. The model considers the uncertain in some parameters using probability density function (pdf) to portrait its...

In this paper the creation of multiple energy hubs that make up a complex energy network are modeled and optimized for a selection of six scenarios to examine both their financial viability and potential reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. As a proposed case study scenario for the model, three energy hubs are considered: a 'residential complex (RC)', a 'commercial shopping plaza (CS)', and a 'school (S)'. The use of combined heat and power systems, solar photovoltaic, solar collectors and network interaction are also examined for their impact on efficiency and cost. The modeling is undertaken and carried out by General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS). It is shown that cost can be reduced...

In order to achieve the international climate goals and to keep the global temperature increase below 2 °C, carbon capture and storage in large point sources of CO2 emissions has received considerable attention. In recent years, mitigation of CO2 emissions from the power sector has been studied extensively whereas other industrial point source emitters such as hydrogen industry have also great potential for CO2 abatement. This study aims to draw an updated comparison between different hydrogen and power cogeneration systems using natural gas and coal as feedstock. The goal is to show the relative advantage of cogeneration systems with respect to CO2 emission reduction costs. Accordingly, the...
