Decomposition of the time delay systems with one delay: The simultaneous similarity of two matrices

    , Article ELECO 2013 - 8th International Conference on Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Bursa ; 2013 , Pages 487-491 ; 9786050105049 (ISBN) Mesbahi, A ; Haeri, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The time delay equations are frequently used to model real systems since they can describe the after-effect phenomenon. It is usually difficult to analyze the properties of time delay systems. Thus it would be beneficial to make the systems as simple as possible. For this purpose, the decomposition of the systems into some separate or cascaded sub-systems with smaller dimension is introduced as the solution of the mentioned complex task. The decomposition of the time delay systems with one delay is directly related to simultaneous similarity of two matrices. In this regard, necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for the existence of a common similar block diagonal or triangular form...

Semantic log based replication model for optimizing heterogeneous DBMS interaction

    , Article 2009 1st International Conference on Advances in Databases, Knowledge, and Data Applications, DBKDA 2009, Gosier, 1 March 2009 through 6 March 2009 ; 2009 , Pages 138-142 ; 9780769535500 (ISBN) Farahmand Nejad, A ; Kharazmi, S ; Bayati, S ; Golmohammadi, S. Abstract
The growth of database application usage requires DataBase Management Systems (DBMS) that are accessible, reliable, and dependable. One approach to handle these requirements is replication mechanism. Replication mechanism can be divided into various categories. Some related works consider two categories for replication mechanisms: heterogeneous and homogenous however majority of them classify them in three groups: physical, trigger-based and log based schema. Log-based replication mechanisms are the most widely used category among DBMS vendors. Adapting such approach for heterogeneous systems is a complex task, because of lack of log understanding in the other end. Semantic technologies...

Cross platform web-based smart tourism using deep monument mining

    , Article 4th International Conference on Pattern Recognition and Image Analysis, IPRIA 2019, 6 March 2019 through 7 March 2019 ; 2019 , Pages 190-194 ; 9781728116211 (ISBN) Etaati, M ; Majidi, B ; Manzuri, M. T ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Tourism is one of the largest sources of economic revenue for many countries around the world. The historical and cultural treasures of Iran made it one the main destinations for international tourists. One of the biggest problems encountered by the tourists during the visit to monuments of Iran is the lack of information about the visited landmark. Given that cameras can be found in all of the smart phones, the use of the landmark's photos can be very important for obtaining information about the tourism sites. The detection of the landmarks in an image taken by the mobile phone camera can be a very complex task depending on the angle and the light situation in which the photo is taken. In...

    Deep learning in analytical chemistry

    , Article TrAC - Trends in Analytical Chemistry ; Volume 145 , 2021 ; 01659936 (ISSN) Debus, B ; Parastar, H ; Harrington, P ; Kirsanov, D ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In recent years, extensive research in the field of Deep Learning (DL) has led to the development of a wide array of machine learning algorithms dedicated to solving complex tasks such as image classification or speech recognition. Due to their unprecedented ability to explore large volumes of data and extract meaningful hidden structures, DL models have naturally drawn attention from various fields in science. Analytical chemistry, in particular, has successfully benefited from the application of DL tools for extracting qualitative and quantitative information from high-dimensional and complex chemical measurements. This report provides introductory reading for understanding DL machinery...

Position control of shape memory alloy actuator based on the generalized Prandtl-Ishlinskii inverse model

    , Article Mechatronics ; Volume 22, Issue 7 , 2012 , Pages 945-957 ; 09574158 (ISSN) Sayyaadi, H ; Zakerzadeh, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Hysteresis and significant nonlinearities in the behavior of Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) actuators encumber effective utilization of these actuator. Due to these effects, the position control of SMA actuators has been a great challenge in recent years. Literature review of the research conducted in this area shows that using the inverse of the phenomenological hysteresis models can compensate the hysteresis of these actuators effectively. But, inverting some of these models, such as Preisach model, is numerically a complex task. However, the generalized Prandtl-Ishlinskii model is analytically invertible, and therefore can be implemented conveniently as a feedforward controller for compensating...
