    Abstract
    In contrast to the traditional study of composites containing ellipsoidal inclusions, we highlight some calculated results for the effective moduli when the inclusion shape can be described by the superspherical equation, [image omitted], such that when p = 2 it reduces to a sphere and when p it becomes a perfect cube. We consider the cases of both aligned and randomly oriented superspherical inclusions with isotropic, cubic, and transversely isotropic properties, and show how the shape parameter, p, affects the overall moduli of the composites during the spherical to cuboidal transition

    Abstract
    Rhenium distribution between Tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP) dissolved in kerosene and sulfuric aqueous media is investigated under different temperatures, acidities, and TBP concentrations. Results show an exothermic extraction reaction with a distribution factor that decreases with the increase of the temperature and increases with the increase of the acidity and the TBP concentration. The stoichiometry of the reaction indicates neutralization of 1 mole of H+ with 1 mole of ReO4- and solvating of a neutral molecule with four molecules of TBP.     Abstract
    The shear behavior of a cemented gravely sand that can be considered as the representative of Tehran alluvium has been studied using triaxial equipment. Artificially cemented samples were prepared using gypsum plaster as the cementing agent. The plaster was mixed with the base soil at the weight percentages between 1.5 and 6.     Abstract
    The present article focuses on the high-temperature mechanical properties of the magnesium alloy AZ91. The addition of rare-earth (RE) elements up to 2 wt pct improves both yield and tensile strengths at 140 °C by replacing the Mg17Al12 phase with RE-containing intermetallic compounds. This intermetallic phase is thermally and metallurgically stable and is expected to boost the grain-boundary strengthening. It also increases the resistance of grain boundaries to flow at high temperatures. Further increases of RE additions reduce strength and ductility due to growth of the Al11RE3 brittle phase, which has sharp edges.     Samples of INCONEL 718 were levitated and melted in a slag by the application of an electromagnetic field. The effects of temperature, time, and slag composition on the inclusion content of the samples were studied thoroughly. Samples were compared with the original alloy to study the effect of the process on inclusions. Size, shape, and chemical composition of remaining non-metallic inclusions were investigated.     Abstract
    In the present work, the fracture toughness data generated on the QE22 magnesium alloy as the matrix alloy and SiC particles reinforced composites using the short rod standard specimens. The short rod specimens of 18 mm diameter were prepared from the extruded rods in the extrusion direction. The fracture toughness values are primarily evaluated experimentally and then analytically by using mathematical methods. The suitability of these methods to predict this property was also discussed. Results showed that the incorporation of the SiC particles with three different shapes (i.e. sharp, blocky and round) decreases in general the fracture toughness of the QE22 Mg-alloy.     Abstract
    An experimental rheological study has been performed to evaluate the influence of TiC addition on the rheological behavior and stability of 316L stainless steel powder injection molding (PIM) feedstock. The effects of TiC concentration, solid loading, shear rate and temperature were investigated via capillary rheometer method. The stability of feedstocks was evaluated quantitatively using "instability index", which describes the threshold beyond which the variation of viscosity becomes unacceptable for PIM purposes.     Abstract
    The behavior of a cemented gravely sand is studied using triaxial tests. Drained and undrained tests were performed on dry and saturated specimens, and stress-strain characteristics of the soil, along with volumetric and pore pressure changes, were identified. The gypsum plaster was used as the cement agent and was mixed with the soil in different percentages. The tests were done in the usual range of confining pressures, from 25 to 500 kPa. Test results show that dilation occurs even at the highest confining stress and the least cement content.     Abstract
    In this paper, immobilization of penicillin G aclylase onto non-porous ultrafine silica particles has been studied. The amount of penicillin G acylase immobilized was increased by increasing the free enzyme concentration and, at 0.45 mg/ml concentration of the free enzyme, 80% of the enzyme was immobilized. The optimum pH for immobilization was found to be 7.0, close to the pl of the enzyme. Although immobilization of the enzyme on ultrafine silica particles with and without glutaraldehyde showed almost the same activities, the enzyme immobilized with glutaraldehyde retained its initial activity much longer during 40 cycle-repeated batches with a half life of 163.2 h. © Sharif University of...

    The effects of graphite content on the density and oxidation behavior of MgO-C refractory samples were studied. The samples were formulated with various amounts of graphite and their oxidation behavior was investigated (in an isothermal condition); using a Thermo Gravimetric system (TG), in air and at temperatures ranging from 900"C to 1450"C. The preliminary results showed that the porosity and density of tempered samples were decreased when the graphite content was increased.     Abstract
    In this paper, LM pectin production from commercial apple pectin by using acid, alkali and ammonia methods in the presence of ethanol was studied. Also, the effect of different parameters such as, temperature, time, acid, alkali and ammonia treatment in LM pectin production were evaluated. In all the experiments, low temperature showed a better influence from a recovery, purity and low de-polymerization viewpoint. Optimum conditions in the acid method reached at pH = 2, t = 17 hrs and T = 30°C, in the alkaline method reached at pH = 11, t = 3 hrs and T = 5°C and in the ammonia method reached at 2 N ammonia and T = 5°C, were determined. © Sharif University of Technology

    In order to understand the potential role of divalent ions involved in smart water, fluid-fluid and rock-fluid interactions are studied through contact angle and interfacial tension (IFT) measurements. Then, the suitable brines in changing contact angle and IFT are brought into measurement with spontaneous imbibition experiments to evaluate the co-impact of fluid-fluid and rock-fluid interactions. The results show the importance of SO42− ions during smart water injection as removing them from the injection water leads to a sharp drop in ultimate oil recovery.     Various compositions of maleated ethylene-propylene-rubber (EPR-g-MA) toughened polyamide 6 without and with short glass fiber, i.e. 5-20 wt.% rubber and 5-20 wt.% fiber, are prepared using an industrial twin-screw extruder at different levels of feed rate (100-250 kg/h), screw speed (200-450 rpm) and barrel temperature (230-260 °C). Trial runs designed based on the Taguchi's orthogonal arrays are subjected to tensile, impact, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and optical microscopy tests; and the results are used to perform the analysis of variance (ANOVA).
