    Abstract
In recent years, the development of distributed power generation has resulted in significant reduction in network losses and transmission costs while it has increased reliability. Microturbine is one of these power generators that has the ability of relatively high power generation in spite of its small volume [1], [2]. In this paper, different layouts for advanced microturbine cycles are analyzed. In order to modify cycle characteristics such as power and efficiency, and reduce exergy destruction, different configurations including intercooler, aftercooler, and heat recovery boiler are separately and synthetically analyzed and compared. The effects of various parameters, such as compressor...

Modeling and estimation of unmeasured variables in a wastegate operated turbocharger

    , Article Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power ; Vol. 136, Issue. 5 , 2014 ; ISSN: 07424795 Salehi, R ; Vossoughi, G ; Alasty, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Estimation of relevant turbocharger variables is crucial for proper operation and monitoring of turbocharged (TC) engines, which are important in improving fuel economy of vehicles. This paper presents mean-value models developed for estimating gas flow over the turbine and the wastegate (WG), the wastegate position, and the compressor speed in a TC gasoline engine. The turbine is modeled by an isentropic nozzle with a constant area and an effective pressure ratio calculated from the turbine upstream and downstream pressures. Another physically sensible model is developed for estimating either the WG flow or position. Provided the WG position is available, the WG flow is estimated using the...

    , Article Proceedings of the ASME Turbo Expo ; Volume 8, Issue PARTS A, B, AND C , 2012 , Pages 871-880 ; 9780791844748 (ISBN) Mojaddam, M ; Benisi, A. H ; Movahhedy, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
In this article, the effects of volute cross section shape and centroid profile of a centrifugal compressor volute were investigated. The performance characteristics of a turbocharger compressor were obtained experimentally by measuring rotor speed and flow parameters at the inlet and outlet of the centrifugal compressor. The three dimensional flow field model of the compressor was obtained numerically solving Navier- Stokes equations with SST turbulence model. The compressor characteristic curves were plotted. For model verification, the results were compared with experimental data, showing good agreement. Modification of a volute was performed by introducing a shape factor for volute cross...

    , Article 2011 IEEE International Conference on Control System, Computing and Engineering, ICCSCE 2011, Penang, 25 November 2011 through 27 November 2011 ; 2011 , Pages 193-197 ; 9781457716423 (ISBN) Mohammadi, H ; Kermani, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Over the time, multistaging has proved to have some great benefits such as less electrical usage, so, nowadays; optimization of the electrical power usage in centrifugal compressors is an important issue to lead to the least usage of power. In this paper, we present a novel algorithm that provides this desire; it also shows different arrangement of the stages for the considered compressor. Simple single-stage compressor pressure ratio is normally limited by constraints of both aerodynamic and structural types. Reaching to minimum power leads to the least usage of electrical power. In this paper, we utilize theoretical relations which are extracted and have been presented a novel numerical...

    Abstract
In this research, the centrifugal compressor of a turbocharger is investigated experimentally and numerically. Performance characteristics of the compressor were obtained experimentally by measurements of rotor speed and flow parameters at the inlet and outlet of the compressor. Three dimensional flow field in the impeller and diffuser was analyzed numerically using a full Navier-Stokes program with SST turbulence model. The performance characteristics of the compressor were obtained numerically, which were then compared with the experimental results. The comparison shows good agreement. Furthermore, the effect of area ratio and tip clearance on the performance parameters and flow field was...

    Abstract
Bi-evaporator electricity/cooling cogeneration systems can be a favorable addition to the integrated power plants since the generated cooling load should be addressed for different demands. More consequentially, taking advantage of such an integral set-up operated with highly reliable heat source such as biogas can be appreciable for nowadays industries. Regarding this demand, an innovative bi-evaporator electricity/cooling cogeneration system is introduced at first. Next, the suggested system is integrated with a gas turbine cycle fueled by biogas. In the subsequent part, the plausibility of the introduced integrated power plant is examined from first and second laws of thermodynamics (as...
