Swirl intensity as a control mechanism for methane purification in supersonic gas separators

    Abstract
Supersonic gas separator is proposed for methane purification. One-dimensional analysis is performed to examine the design aspects associated with the converging-diverging nozzle and the liquid separation chamber. The results indicate that at low swirl intensities, the separation chamber length is about 100 times of the nozzle throat. Increasing the swirl intensity would lower this length sharply and it will be less than 10 for swirl intensity of unity which is equivalent to a swirl angle of 45°. In addition, a sensitivity analysis of the separator performance to the inlet conditions like the temperature, pressure, and composition of the mixture is carried out. It is observed that increasing...

New turbulence modeling for simulation of Direct Contact Condensation in two-phase pressurized thermal shock

    Abstract
Injection of Emergency Core Cooling System (ECCS) water into the primary loops of the Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs) leads to rapid cooling of Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) inside wall after Loss Of Coolant Accident (LOCA). This condition, known as Pressurized Thermal Shock (PTS) intensifies the propagation of the RPV structural defects and would be considered as an ageing mechanism. For structural and fracture analysis of RPV wall, thermal-hydraulic analysis of PTS should be accomplished to obtain the steam/water flow characteristics in the downcomer. For this purpose, simulation of steam/water stratified flow (due to density difference) after the injection point should be done by...

    Abstract
Theoretical and experimental analysis of performance of a solar desalination pond as a second stage of proposed zero discharge desalination processes is considered in this work. Major purpose of this proposed process is producing salt and potable water. Experiments are conducted for brackish wastewater with different salinity content. The relation between temperature variations of brackish water, glass, and base of solar desalination pond with condensation rate are discussed. Results indicate when brackish water temperature is increasing; the average daily production of solar desalination pond is increased considerably. Results of the mathematical modeling show good agreement with...
