    , Article 12th International Conference on Microelectronics, ICM 2000, 31 October 2000 through 2 November 2000 ; Volume 2000-October , 2000 , Pages 209-212 ; 9643600572 (ISBN) Iraji Zad, A ; Vashaei, Z ; Mahdavi, S. M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We compare Cu/M/SiO2 (M=Cr,V and Ta) multilayers that were deposited on Si substrates. Sample resistance measurements were carried out during annealing in 80% N2+20% H2, N2 and Ar environments. Resistivity measurements, SEM observations, RBS and AES spectroscopies from annealed samples showed good diffusion barrier properties for Cr and V but rather poor properties for Ta buffer layers. This is due to the amorphous nature of Cr films and formation of a continuous Cu overlayer. SEM observation also showed granular structure for Cu/V and Cu/Ta with grain sizes of about 500 and 1000 Å respectively. However, shallow nitrogen implantation in Cu/V samples and DC biasing for Cu/Ta layers during...

    Abstract
Motivated by the puzzling optical conductivity measurements in graphene, we speculate on the possible role of strong electronic correlations on the two-dimensional Dirac fermions. In this work we employ the slave-particle method to study the excitations of the Hubbard model on honeycomb lattice, away from half-filling. Since the ratio U/t ≈ 3.3 in graphene is not infinite, double occupancy is not entirely prohibited and hence a finite density of doublonscan be generated. We therefore extend the Ioff-Larkin composition rule to include a finite density of doublons. We then investigate the role played by each of these auxiliary particles in the optical absorption of strongly correlated Dirac...

    Abstract
It has long been understood that flow behavior in heterogeneous porous media is largely controlled by the continuity of permeability contrasts. With this in mind, we are looking in new methods for a fast estimation of the effective permeability which concentrates on the properties of the percolating cluster. From percolation concepts we use a threshold permeability value (Kth) by which the gridblocks with the highest permeability values connect two opposite side of the system in the direction of the flow. Those methods can be applied to heterogeneous media of a range of permeabilities distribution and various underlying structures. We use power law relations and weighted power averages that...

    Abstract
In this study, a semi-conductive nanocomposite for electrically controlled drug delivery is introduced. Hydrolyzed collagen known as a naturally abundant polypeptide was modified with polycaprolactone. This modification changed the mechanical properties of the hydrolyzed-collagen. A hydrogel compound was synthesized through radical co-polymerization of acrylic acid on the backbone of this biocompatible polymer in the presence of a crosslinker. The reaction parameters affecting the water absorbency of the hydrogel were optimized using Taguchi method. In situ polymerization of aniline, incorporated conductive nanofiber pathways throughout the hydrogel matrix. 1H NMR, TGA, AFM, SEM, FTIR,...

    Abstract
CO2 injection has proved to be the most common and efficient enhanced oil recovery techniques which leads to more residual oil recovery. Unfavorable sweep efficiency which results in fingering propagation and causes early gas breakthrough is the most challenging issue of gas flooding process. The aim of this work is to study foam stability and analyze the mobility of CO2 foam stabilized by mixture of raw silica nanoparticles and ethyl hexadecyl dimethyl ammonium bromide (cationic surfactant). The result is obtained through both dynamic and static techniques using a new adsorption index.NPS-stabilized foams are generated using Ross-Miles method. A novel index for the adsorption of surfactant...

    , Article Carbon ; Volume 130 , April , 2018 , Pages 267-272 ; 00086223 (ISSN) Tayyebi, A ; Akhavan, O ; Lee, B. K ; Outokesh, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2018
    Abstract
Supercritical water was used for simultaneous fragmentation and reduction of graphene oxide (GO) sheets into water-dispersible graphene quantum dots (GQDs) with tunable sizes. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) demonstrated that by increasing the temperature above the critical point of water, the average size and thickness of the GQDs were decreased and the size uniformity and production yield were increased. The results of thermal conductivity measurement of GQD nanofluids with different weight fractions indicated that the GQDs prepared at supercritical condition could enhance the thermal conductivity of water by 65% as compared to 35% for the GQDs synthesized at sub-critical...

    Abstract
Abstract: The effect of de-siliconization on the oxidation behavior of AISI 430 stainless steel used for solid oxide fuel cell interconnect application was investigated. De-siliconization treatment was conducted via heating steel parts in an H2 environment. The de-siliconized substrates were then coated with a Mn1.5Co1.5O4 spinel coating, using wet spray method. For comparison, a similar coating process was applied on the as-received AISI 430 stainless steel specimens. Oxidation kinetics of coated interconnects were evaluated at 700, 800 and 900 °C in air. Results showed that the de-siliconization surface treatment decreased oxidation rates, with kinetic rates (g2 cm−4 s−1) of 4.39 × 10−14...

Permutation betting markets: singleton betting with extra information

    , Article Proceedings of the ACM Conference on Electronic Commerce, 8 July 2008 through 12 July 2008, Chicago, IL ; 2008 , Pages 180-189 ; 9781605581699 (ISBN) Ghodsi, M ; Mahini, H ; Mirrokni, V ; Zadimoghaddam, M ; ACM SIGecom ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
We study permutation betting markets, introduced by Chen, Fortnow, Nikolova, and Pennock [3]. For these markets, we consider subset bettings in which each trader can bet on a subset of candidates ending up in a subset of positions. We consider the revenue maximization problem for the auctioneer in two main frameworks: the risk-free revenue maximization (studied in [3]), and the probabilistic revenue maximization. We also explore the use of some certain knowledge or extra information about the possible outcomes of the market. We first show that finding the optimal revenue in the risk-free model for the subset betting problem is inapproximable. This resolves an open question posed by Chen et...

Introducing a framework to create telephony speech databases from direct ones

, Article 14th International Conference on Systems Signals and Image Processing, IWSSIP 2007 and 6th EURASIP Conference Focused on Speech and Image Processing, Multimedia Communications and Services, EC-SIPMCS 2007, Maribor, 27 June 2007 through 30 June 2007 ; November , 2007 , Pages 327-330 ; 9789612480295 (ISBN) Momtazi, S ; Sameti, H ; Vaisipour, S ; Tefagh, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A Comprehensive speech database is one of the important tools for developing speech recognition systems; these tools are necessary for telephony recognition, too. Although adequate databases for direct speech recognizers exist, there is not an appropriate database for telephony speech recognizers. Most methods suggested for solving this problem are based on building new databases which tends to consume much time and many resources; or they used a filter which simulates circuit switch behavior to transform direct databases to telephony ones, in this case resulted databases have many differences with real telephony databases. In this paper we introduce a framework for creating telephony speech...

    , Article Journal of Molecular Catalysis B: Enzymatic ; Volume 90 , June , 2013 , Pages 139-143 ; 13811177 (ISSN) Khosravi, A ; Vossoughi, M ; Shahrokhian, S ; Alemzadeh, I ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Synthesis of poly(2,5-dimethoxyanilie) (PDMA) catalyzed by nano reengineered horseradish peroxidase (HRP) with dendritic macromolecules, was studied as a function of reaction media. UV-vis, gel permeation chromatography and conductivity measurements were used to explain how the reaction media compositions influence the physical properties of PDMA. Nanostructured PDMA was also synthesized by oxidative polymerization in a novel and green bi-catalyst system involving HRP and ferric chloride. FTIR and UV-vis analysis confirmed the formation of emeraldine salt state of PDMA. The thermal stability of reengineered HRP granted further studies on the polymerization using bi-catalyst system at...
