, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Fereidoonnezhad, Behrouz (Author) ; Naghdabadi, Reza (Supervisor) ; Sohrabpour, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Arghavani, Jamal (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Process Variation is seen as statistical variations in leakage current and delay of transistors in nano-scale technologies. The amount of process variations increase as the size of transistors decrease by technology scaling such that those effects can be seen in frequency of MPSoC (Multi-Processor System-on-Chip) cores and their leakage power deviation. These variations cause the tasks duration and power consumption fluctuate in different processors in an MPSoC instance. Consequently, some chip instances of the same MPSoC may consume more time and power than their considered limitations. Hence considering the process variation is necessary and required for MPSoC optimization at different...

Mechanics and morphology of single-walled carbon nanotubes: From graphene to the elastica

    , Article Philosophical Magazine ; Volume 93, Issue 17 , 2013 , Pages 2057-2088 ; 14786435 (ISSN) Delfani, M. R ; Shodja, H. M ; Ojaghnezhad, F ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The elastica is referred to the shape of the curve into which the centreline of a flexible lamina is bent. Hence, single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are treated as the elastica obtained from bending of graphene. The corresponding large deformation accompanies both the material and geometrical non-linearities. The morphology of the free-standing SWCNTs such as the natural angle of twist, bond lengths, tube radius and wall thickness are determined. Moreover, it is shown that the induced self-equilibriated strain field has a remarkable impact on the mechanical behaviour of the nanotube. Utilization of an appropriate non-linear continuum constitutive relation for graphene leads to exact...

    Abstract
In this study, empirical constitutive relations of materials with different crystalline structures through severe plastic deformation are introduced. Here, for each material, an optimized empirical relation is chosen by fitting some empirical relations on the results achieved from a dislocation- based constitutive model. In this work, four modes of empirical relations are fitted on the results of modified Estrin-Toth-Molinari-Brechet constitutive model for four materials with different crystalline structures (Al, Cu, Ta, and Zr). The obtained relations for the materials can be usable in commercial finite element codes

    A visco-hyperelastic constitutive model for rubber-like materials: A rate-dependent relaxation time scheme

    Abstract
A three-dimensional visco-hyperelastic constitutive model is developed to describe the rate-dependent behavior of rubber-like materials at large deformations. The model encompasses a hyperelastic part which uses the "Exp-Ln" strain energy function to characterize the equilibrium response and a viscous part capturing the rate sensitivity using a hereditary integral form which links the overstress to the history of stored strain energy. A physically consistent rate-dependent relaxation time scheme is introduced which reduces the number of required material parameters and also facilitates the calibration process. The proposed model is verified using various uniaxial experimental data in...

    Abstract
The theoretical need to recognize the link between the basic microstructure of nonlinear porous materials and their macroscopic mechanical behavior is continuously rising owing to the existing engineering applications. In this regard, a semi-analytical homogenization model is proposed to establish an overall, continuum-level constitutive law for nonlinear elastic materials containing prolate/oblate spheroidal voids undergoing finite axisymmetric deformations. The microgeometry of the porous materials is taken to be voided spheroid assemblage consisting of confocally voided spheroids of all sizes having the same orientation. Following a kinematically admissible deformation field for a...

    Abstract
The initial and subsequent yield surfaces for architected pyramidal lattice materials are investigated analytically. Considering lattice struts as elastic-perfectly plastic thin beams subjected to both axial force and bending moment, a set of nonlinear elastic-plastic constitutive relations for a strut is proposed. Moreover, we phenomenologically present anisotropic pressure-dependent yield functions for pyramidal lattices. Comparison of planar yield surfaces of pyramidal lattices predicted by analytical approach to the ones obtained from phenomenological models shows a good agreement for the type of external loads and range of strains investigated in this study. Investigating the normality...

Numerical simulation of cyclic behavior of ductile metals with a coupled damage-viscoplasticity model

    , Article Computational Materials Science ; Volume 55 , 2012 , Pages 376-389 ; 09270256 (ISSN) Khoei, A. R ; Eghbalian, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, the evolution of ductile damage and the failure is investigated in the cyclic loading of ductile metals based on the rate-dependent elasto-viscoplastic damage model with the linear and nonlinear isotropic-kinematic hardening rules. The constitutive model is derived by introducing the damage variable, based on the plastic strain behavior, in both the elasto-plasticity and visco-plasticity frameworks. The cyclic behavior is modeled by using the visco-plasticity model since the rate-dependent behavior is observed experimentally for various metal alloys. In order to obtain a more realistic response in the compression zone, the crack closure effect is employed in the stress-strain...

A novel nonlinear constitutive relation for graphene and its consequence for developing closed-form expressions for Young's modulus and critical buckling strain of single-walled carbon nanotubes

    Abstract
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are viewed as rolled graphene. Thus, an appropriate formulation describing the behavior of CNTs must contain the key information about both their initial configuration as graphene and final configuration as CNT.On this note, to date, somemodels, in particular based on the Cauchy- Born rule, for the description of CNTs behavior exist. A simplifying assumption in some of these models is that the length and perimeter of the CNT equal the corresponding dimensions of the unrolled initial configuration, thus neglecting the induced hoop and longitudinal strains. On the other hand, the present work offers a purely nonlinear continuum model suitable for the description of the...

An exact analysis for the hoop elasticity and pressure-induced twist of CNT-nanovessels and CNT-nanopipes

    Abstract
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with and without end caps may be used for fluid storage and transport, respectively, referred to as CNT-nanovessel and CNT-nanopipe. The determination of the stiffness in the hoop (circumferential) and radial directions, ideal hoop strength, and hoop stress-strain curve of such nanostructures is of particular interest. Due to the proposed viewpoint, a chiral free-standing single-walled CNT (SWCNT) has a natural angle of twist and natural extension along the axis of the tube. For example, for the SWCNT (9,3) with diameter of 0.85 nm and chirality angle of 13.9°, the natural angle of twist per unit length is 1.45×10-3 rad/nm. Previously, only Vercosa et al. (2010) who...

Constitutive modeling of solids at finite deformation using a second-order stress-strain relation

    , Article International Journal of Engineering Science ; Volume 48, Issue 2 , 2010 , Pages 223-236 ; 00207225 (ISSN) Darijani, H ; Naghdabadi, R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, a deformation measure is introduced which leads to a class of strain measures in the Lagrangian and Eulerian descriptions. In order to develop a constitutive equation, a second-order constitutive relation based on these strain measures is considered for modeling the mechanical behavior of solids at finite deformation. For this purpose and performance evaluation of the proposed strains, a Hookean-type constitutive equation is considered and the uniaxial loading as well as simple shear and pure shear tests are examined. It is shown that the constitutive modeling based on the proposed strains give results which are in good agreement with the experimental data

    Abstract
In this article, a constitutive model in the framework of continuum damage mechanics is proposed to simulate the elastic behavior of concrete in tension and compression states. We assume two parts for Gibbs potential energy function: elastic and damage parts. In order to obtain the elastic-damage constitutive relation with the internal variables, two damage thermodynamic release rates in tension and compression derived from the elastic part of Gibbs potential energy are introduced. Also, two anisotropic damage tensors (tension and compression) are defined which characterize the tensile and compressive behaviors of concrete. Furthermore, two different linear hardening rules for tension and...
