Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the use of an integrated approach for performance improvement of virtual teams (VTs) in third-party logistics (3PL) through the integration of performance management (PM), visual management (VM) and continuous improvement (CI) initiatives into one coherent system. The paper will also propose a methodological framework to establish such a system. The intended integrated system is called as integrated visual management (IVM) throughout this paper. Design/methodology/approach: This research is based on a case study that took place in a 3PL context with 19 VTs of different sizes spread across Australia. Many major 3PL companies provide their...
A model to support context-aware service migration in pervasive computing environments

Abstract
Continuous improvement and extension of pervasive computing environments, in which objects have high mobility and limited computing power, implies service migration to be considered as one of the main issues. On the other hand, context-awareness which is the most distinguishable feature of pervasive computing helps better serving of users. Accordingly, migration in the presence of context-awareness is considered as the underlying of our motivation. This improves the performance of migration, which is not easily achievable through traditional migration techniques. In this paper we introduce a model to support context-aware migration besides its migration process phases and framework. Our...

Abstract
Background: Balance training improves postural control in Parkinson's disease (PD). However, a systematic approach for the development of individualized, optimal training programs is still lacking, as the learning dynamics of the postural control in PD, over a training program, are poorly understood. Objectives: We investigated the learning dynamics of the postural control in PD, during a balance-training program, in terms of the clinical, posturographic, and novel model-based measures. Methods: Twenty patients with PD participated in a balance-training program, 3 days a week, for 6 weeks. Clinical tests assessed functional balance and mobility pre-training, mid-training, and post-training....
A strategic management model for evaluation of health, safety and environmental performance
, Article Environmental Monitoring and Assessment ; Volume 184, Issue 5 , 2012 , Pages 2981-2991 ; 01676369 (ISSN) ; Toutounchian, S ; Roayaei, E ; Nassiri, P ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
Strategic health, safety, and environmental management system (HSE-MS) involves systematic and cooperative planning in each phase of the lifecycle of a project to ensure that interaction among the industry group, client, contractor, stakeholder, and host community exists with the highest level of health, safety, and environmental standard performances. Therefore, it seems necessary to assess the HSE-MS performance of contractor(s) by a comparative strategic management model with the aim of continuous improvement. The present Strategic Management Model (SMM) has been illustrated by a case study and the results show that the model is a suitable management tool for decision making in a contract...
