    , Article IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems ; Volume 3, Issue 1 , 2002 , Pages 12-26 ; 15249050 (ISSN) Liu, C. I ; Jula, H ; Ioannou, P. A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Due to the boom in world trade, port authorities are looking into ways of making existing facilities more efficient. One way to improve efficiency, increase capacity, and meet future demand is to use advanced technologies and automation in order to speed up terminal operations. In this paper, we design, analyze, and evaluate four different automated container terminal (ACT) concepts. These concepts include automated container terminals based on the use of automated guidance vehicles (AGVs), a linear motor conveyance system (LMCS), an overhead grid rail system (GR), and a high-rise automated storage and retrieval structure (AS/RS). We use future demand scenarios to design the characteristics...

    A 32kb 90nm 9T-cell sub-threshold SRAM with improved read and write SNM

, Article Proceedings of the 2013 8th International Conference on Design and Technology of Integrated Systems in Nanoscale Era, DTIS 2013 ; 2013 , Pages 104-107 ; 9781467360388 (ISBN) Zamani, M ; Hassanzadeh, S ; Hajsadeghi, K ; Saeidi, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The fast growth of battery operated devices has made low power SRAM designs a necessity in recent years. Moreover, embedded SRAM units have become an important block in modern SoCs. The SRAM performance is limited by the cell stability during different operation. By adding extra transistor to the conventional 6T-cell, hold, read and write static noise margin (SNM) can be improved in the sub-threshold SRAM. In this paper we proposed a new 9T-cell SRAM that shows 80% and 50% improvement in read and write SNM respectively in comparison to the conventional 6T-cell SRAM. Using stack transistors in the leakage current path, the new structure shows lower bitline leakage assisting the sense...

A cost-effective error detection and roll-back recovery technique for embedded microprocessor control logic

    , Article 20th International Conference on Microelectronics, ICM'08, Sharjah, 14 December 2008 through 17 December 2008 ; January , 2008 , Pages 470-473 ; 9781424423705 (ISBN) Ghasemzadeh Mohammadi, H ; Tabkhi, H ; Miremadi, S. G ; Ejlali, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The increasing rate of transient faults necessitates the use of on-chip fault-tolerant techniques in embedded microprocessors. Performance overhead is a challenging problem in on-chip fault-tolerant techniques used in the random logic of the embedded microprocessors. This paper presents a signature-based error detection and roll-back recovery technique for the control logic with much lower performance overhead as compared to many previous techniques. The low performance overhead is achieved by eliminating the fault masking overhead cycles in the previous techniques. The performance overhead is analytically studied, and the analytical results recommend at which fault rate the use of the...

Simulation of startup operation of an industrial twin-shaft gas turbine based on geometry and control logic

    , Article Energy ; Volume 183 , 2019 , Pages 1295-1313 ; 03605442 (ISSN) Keshavarz Mohammadian, P ; Saidi, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, a transient model is developed to simulate the start-up operation of an industrial twin-shaft gas turbine based on real geometry and control logic. The components’ characteristic curves of the studied gas turbine were generated with the aid of CFD simulation tools and according to the real geometry of each component. The control logic of the studied gas turbine was simplified and coupled with the developed engine performance model. Also, the gas turbine actuators including variable inlet guide vanes, compressor bleed valves, and fuel valves were simulated so that their concurrent effects on the gas turbine transient behavior can be captured precisely. Moreover, the air-cooled...
