    Theoretical-experimental investigation of Co emission from an oil refinery incinerator

    Abstract
    In this paper, we investigate the CO emission from an oil refinery gas incinerator both theoretically and experimentally. At the beginning of this research, our collected data from this incinerator showed that the CO contamination would be far exceeding the permissible environmental standards at the stack exhaust. Therefore, we decided to perform a combined theoretical-experimental study to find a reasonable solution to reduce the CO pollution suitably. Our theoretical study showed that a reliable solution would be to increase the incinerator operating temperature. However, we needed to collect some data from this incinerator to examine if our achieved analytical solution would work...

    Abstract
    This paper proposes an enhanced hybrid modular multilevel converter (MMC), which utilizes a combination of halfbridge submodules (HBSM) and at least one full-bridge submodule (FBSM). In the proposed structure, FBSMs work with half of the HBSMs nominal voltage in each arm. Due to the presence of FBSMs, HBSMs switching frequency drops significantly, which reduces the converter power loss compared to half-bridge based MMCs. Furthermore, because of redundant FBSMs, (2N+1)-modulation can be employed to generate the output voltage without increasing the circulating current, thus the converter performance is improved notably.     Abstract
    In the proposed study, a Hybrid Model Predictive Controller is introduced for cruise control of an automobile model. The presented model consists of the engine, the gearbox, and the transmission dynamics, where the aerodynamics force and elastic friction between the tires and road are taken into account. Through Piecewise Linearization of nonlinearities in the system; (torque)-(throttle)-(angular velocity) of engine and (aerodynamic drag force)-(automobile velocity), a comprehensive piecewise linear model for the system is obtained.     Abstract
    Different causes lead to accidental oil spills from fixed and mobile sources in the marine environment. Therefore, it is essential to have a systematic plan for mitigating oil spill consequences. In this research, a general DSS is proposed for passive and active response planning in Persian Gulf, before and after a spill. The DSS is based on NOAA's advanced oil spill model (GNOME), which is now linked with credible met-ocean datasets of CMEMS and ECMWF. The developed open-source tool converts the results of the Lagrangian oil spill model to quantitative parameters such as mean concentration and time of impact of oil.     Abstract
    In this work, the potential of near-infrared (NIR) and mid-infrared (MIR) spectroscopy along with chemometrics was investigated for authentication and adulteration detection of Iranian saffron samples. First, authentication of one-hundred saffron samples was examined by principal component analysis (PCA). The results showed the NIR spectroscopy can better predict the origin of samples than the MIR. Next, partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) was developed to detect four common plant-derived adulterants (i.e., saffron style, calendula, safflower, and rubia).
