    Abstract
    Wireless infrared optical code-division multiple access (W-OCDMA) is a new developing technique with many useful applications. Noting the limitation on power consumption and eye-safety requirements, wireless optical systems are power limited. Therefore control and efficient use of optical power is a key issue in analysis and design of these systems. Also, multi-user interference is the major source of impairment in these systems and power control is required to control and reduce this interference.     Abstract
    We provide a physically motivated definition for the binding energy (or bond dissociation) of a bipartite quantum system. We consider coherently applying an external field to cancel out the interaction between the subsystems, to break their bond and separate them as systems from which no work can be extracted coherently by any cyclic evolution. The minimum difference between the average energies of the initial and final states obtained this way is defined as the binding energy of the system. We show that the final optimal state is a passive state. We discuss how the required evolution can be realized through a sequence of control pulses.     Abstract
    A novel output feedback neural controller is presented for the implementation of sliding mode control of DC/DC converters. The controller, which consists of a multilayer perceptron, has been trained so as to be robust for large variations of system parameters and state variables. Fast dynamic behavior is the other main advantage of the proposed controller, which allows realization of all the beneficial features of sliding mode control technique. Other advantages of the controller are simplicity and low cost.     In the aspect of further development of investigations in the area of spacecraft modeling and analysis of the control scheme, a new hybrid finite-time robust three-axis cascade attitude control approach is proposed via pulse modulation synthesis. The full quaternion based control approach proposed here is organized in association with both the inner and the outer closed loops.     Abstract
    In linear particle accelerators used for free-electron lasers, it is often required that the electron bunches experience the same electric field as they pass through the accelerating structures. For radio frequency (RF) pulsed mode machines, like the SwissFEL, this means that the amplitude and phase of the RF pulses feeding the structures through the waveguides should be kept constant over the pulselength. This raises an interesting problem that can be addressed by an iterative learning control (ILC) technique.     Abstract
    In this paper, we analyze the performance of a wireless infrared system with code division multiple access (CDMA) technique using optical orthogonal codes (OOCs). Performance improvement is shown when power control is applied to the system. Noting the advantages of pulse position modulation (PPM), we have used chip-level binary PPM scheme. To mention some of these advantages we can name average required power reduction and BER improvement in comparison to on-off keying (OOK). The obtained results show that power control is a mandatory part of the design in a wireless infrared system using OOC. ©2007 IEEE

    Harmonic pollution minimisation in voltage-source programmed pulse-width modulation (PPWM) inverters is defined as a time-limited optimisation problem in real-time applications with variable DC sources. In order to obtain minimum total harmonic distortion (THD) as the objective function, shuffled-frog-leaping algorithm (SFLA) is modified and employed to calculate the switching angles and compared with non-linear programming as a traditional optimisation method.     Abstract
    In spite of various works which were carried out on CdO and porous Si (PSi) separately, the interesting properties of CdO/PSi/Si system are not known well. In this work, we study the photoconductivity of deposited CdO layer on PSi/Si system. PS and CdO layers were prepared by electrochemical anodisation of p-type crystalline silicon and pulsed laser deposition (PLD) of cadmium oxide target. Then samples were annealed in air at 500°C to increase their optical transmissions to a value as large as 90% for wavelengths above 700 nm. The XRD study reveals that the annealed films are polycrystalline with grain size of about 25 nm. SEM micrograph of the CdO/PSi/Si system indicates that CdO layer has...

    Barium strontium titanate (BST, Ba1-xSrxTiO3) thin films have been extensively used in many dielectric devices such as dynamic random access memories (DRAMs). To optimize its characteristics, a microstructural control is essential. In this paper, Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 thin film has been deposited on the SiO2/Si substrate by the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique at three different oxygen working pressures of 100, 220 and 350 mTorr. Then the deposited thin films at 100 mTorr oxygen pressure were annealed for 50 min in oxygen ambient at three different temperatures: 650, 720 and 800°C.
