    Abstract
In this article, we examine the controllability of Laplacian dynamic networks on cographs. Cographs appear in modeling a wide range of networks and include as special instances, the threshold graphs. In this article, we present necessary and sufficient conditions for the controllability of cographs, and provide an efficient method for selecting a minimal set of input nodes from which the network is controllable. In particular, we define a sibling partition in a cograph and show that the network is controllable if all nodes of any cell of this partition except one are chosen as control nodes. The key ingredient for such characterizations is the intricate connection between the modularity of...

Behavioral-level hardware trust: analysis and enhancement

    Abstract
Hardware IPs are mostly presented in Register Transfer Level (RTL) description. Although considerable attention has been paid to hardware Trojan detection and design-for-trust at gate level and lower levels, so far there have been few methods at RT Level and behavioral RTL. We propose an approach to analyze circuit susceptibility to Trojan at the behavioral level, based on controllability analysis. We propose three design-for-trust methods, which reduce circuit vulnerability to hardware Trojans by increasing the probability of Trojan detection. We use side-channel Trojan detection method based on power consumption to evaluate Trojan detection probability. Our proposed methods can improve...

Strong structural controllability of signed networks

    Abstract
In this paper, we discuss the controllability of a family of linear time-invariant (LTI) networks defined on a signed graph. In this direction, we introduce the notion of positive and negative signed zero forcing sets for the controllability analysis of positive and negative eigenvalues of system matrices with the same sign pattern. A sufficient combinatorial condition that ensures the strong structural controllability of signed networks is then proposed. Moreover, an upper bound on the maximum multiplicity of positive and negative eigenvalues associated with a signed graph is provided. © 2019 IEEE

State estimation, positioning and anti-swing robust control of traveling crane-lifter system

    , Article Applied Mathematical Modelling ; March , 2015 ; 0307904X (ISSN) Moradi, H ; Vossoughi, G ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Under different loading conditions, the over-head cranes may experience a wide range of model parameters variation. A robust control strategy is developed to achieve the high positioning accuracy, short transportation time and suppression of swing angle for an uncertain over-head crane system. Over-head crane is modeled as a three degrees of freedom system and control problem is investigated for two cases: a system with a single control input (the force on trolley) and a system with two control inputs (the force on trolley and the torque on lifter). Regulator and observer systems are designed. To achieve the tracking objectives, an optimal robust controller is designed based on μ-synthesis...

Dynamic model development and variable switching-frequency control for DCVM Cúk converters in PFC applications

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications ; Volume 49, Issue 6 , 2013 , Pages 2636-2650 ; 00939994 (ISSN) Nasirian, V ; Karimi, Y ; Davoudi, A ; Zolghadri, M. R ; Ahmadian, M ; Moayedi, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A Cúk converter operating in discontinuous capacitor voltage mode (DCVM) is an inherent power factor correction converter. A reduced-order switch-network model of a Cúk converter in DCVM is developed, which is valid for both dc-dc and ac-dc applications. The model can be used for controller analysis and design. Moreover, a fast dynamic response controller is proposed, which is an integration of a switching-frequency control unit and a proportional-integral (PI) controller. The PI controller is in charge of duty ratio adjustment. In the proposed controller, unlike conventional PI controllers, switching frequency is no longer fixed and varies as load changes. The switching-frequency control...
