Assessment of a practical technique for active control of sound using microphone and speaker

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 19, Issue 4 , 2012 , Pages 1005-1012 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Joghataie, A ; Raoufi, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this analytical study, it has been desired to develop a practical and simple control mechanism to control, at a given point and its neighborhood, the sound arriving from a distant source, assuming that a primary pure-tone sound pressure is propagated from a relatively far distance. The control model consists of a microphone as a sensor for measuring the sound pressure and a loud speaker for applying the control force. Corresponding equations have been developed to determine an optimum control force, and afterwards a parametric study on the factors affecting the control results has been performed. The results show that the control system can significantly reduce low frequency sound...

Decentralized model predictive voltage control of islanded DC microgrids

    , Article 11th Power Electronics, Drive Systems, and Technologies Conference, PEDSTC 2020, 4 February 2020 through 6 February 2020 ; 2020 Abbasi, M ; Mahdian Dehkordi, N ; Sadati, N ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper proposes a novel decentralized control approach for islanded direct-current (DC) microgrids (MGs) based on model predictive control (MPC) to regulate the distributed generation unit (DGU) output voltages, i.e. the voltages of the point of common coupling (PCC). A local controller is designed for each DGU, in the presence of uncertainties, disturbances, and unmodeled dynamics. First, a discrete-time state-space model of an MG is derived. Afterward, an MPC algorithm is designed to perform the PCC voltage control. The proposed MPC scheme ensures that the PCC voltages remain within an acceptable range. Several simulation studies have been conducted to illustrate the effectiveness of...

SAMA-VTOL: A new unmanned aircraft system for remotely sensed data collection

    , Article SPIE Future Sensing Technologies 2020, 9 November 2020 through 13 November 2020 ; Volume 11525 , 2020 Bayanlou, M. R. R ; Khoshboresh Masouleh, M ; The Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE) ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In recent years, unmanned aircraft systems (UASs) are frequently used in many different applications of photogrammetry such as building damage monitoring, archaeological mapping and vegetation monitoring. In this paper, a new vertical take-off and landing fixed-wing UAS is proposed to robust photogrammetry missions, called SAMA-VTOL. In this study, the capability of SAMA-VTOL is investigated for generating orthophoto. The major stages are including designing, building and experimental scenario. First, a brief description of design and build is introduced. Next, an experiment was done to generate accurate orthophoto with minimum ground control points requirements. The processing step, which...

    Automatic localization of cephalometric landmarks

    Abstract
Cephalometric analysis has an important role in diagnosis and treatment of dental disharmonies. In this paper, we propose an efficient, fast, and automatic method to localize cephalometric landmarks on digitized x-ray images. The proposed algorithm uses the information of the marked landmarks on a reference normal cephalometry image as the prior knowledge. In the first step of the proposed method, the image is automatically divided into several regions and three main control points are located on it. These are then matched to their corresponding points on the reference image to form an affine transform matrix that describes how other points on the reference image should be mapped to the...
