Global attitude/position estimation using landmark and biased velocity measurements

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems ; Volume 52, Issue 2 , 2016 , Pages 852-862 ; 00189251 (ISSN) Moeini, A ; Namvar, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We propose an observer for attitude and position estimation of a rigid body using translational and angular velocity measurements together with a single landmark. Under an observability condition depending on landmark position, global and asymptotic convergence of attitude and position estimation errors to zero is achieved. We extend the observer for the case of nonideal velocity measurements. Simulation examples demonstrate convergence properties of the observer in the face of noise and bias in velocity measurements

Developing a New Prediction Method for Grid Environments

    Abstract
In this project we have worked on the new architecture of the auction based resource scheduling, from the bidders point of view. The performance of different bidding strategies for the resources which participate in reverse auction system has been investigated; our main parameter for evaluating different bidding strategies is the amount of the profit gained by resources which follow such strategies. The main historical bidding strategies are created based on two famous predictors ES and AUTO-REGRESSION. In addition a game theory approach has been proposed. We have shown that our bidding algorithm (based on the sequential game model) reaches to an equilibrium point if all the bidders follow...

Adaptive compensation of gyro bias in rigid-body attitude estimation using a single vector measurement

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control ; Volume 58, Issue 7 , 2013 , Pages 1816-1822 ; 00189286 (ISSN) Namvar, M ; Safaei, F ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The presence of bias in measurement of rate gyros is a performance limiting factor for satellite attitude determination systems. Gyro bias is usually handled by Kalman filtering methods which are mostly based on linearization approaches and lack global convergence properties. On the other hand, the existing asymptotically convergent nonlinear observers take into account the gyro bias only when multiple vector measurements are available. We present an asymptotically convergent attitude estimator which uses only one vector measurement and a rate gyro whose output is contaminated with an unknown and constant bias. The effect of unknown bias is compensated by means of a parameter adaptation law....

A predictor-based attitude and position estimation for rigid bodies moving in planar space by using delayed landmark measurements

    Abstract
This paper proposes a globally and exponentially convergent predictive observer for attitude and position estimation based on landmark measurements and velocity (angular and linear) readings. It is assumed that landmark measurements are available with time-delay. The maximum value of the sensor delay under which the estimation error converges to zero is calculated. Synthesis of the observer is based on a representation of rigid-body kinematics and sensor delay, formulated via ordinary and partial differential equations (ODE-PDE). Observability condition specifies necessary and sufficient landmark configuration for convergence of attitude and position estimation error to zero. Finally, for...

    Abstract
The problem of asymptotic stability analysis of equilibrium points in nonlinear distributed-order dynamic systems with non-negative weight functions is considered in this paper. The Lyapunov direct method is extended to be used for this stability analysis. To this end, at first, a discretisation scheme with convergence property is introduced for distributed-order dynamic systems. Then, on the basis of this tool, Lyapunov theorems are proved for asymptotic stability analysis of equilibrium points in distributed-order systems. As the order weight function assumed for the distributed-order systems is general enough, the results are applicable to a wide range of nonlinear distributed-order...

On the non-progressive spread of influence through social networks

    Abstract
The spread of influence in social networks is studied in two main categories: the progressive model and the non-progressive model (see e.g. the seminal work of Kempe, Kleinberg, and Tardos in KDD 2003). While the progressive models are suitable for modeling the spread of influence in monopolistic settings, non-progressive are more appropriate for modeling non-monopolistic settings, e.g., modeling diffusion of two competing technologies over a social network. Despite the extensive work on the progressive model, non-progressive models have not been studied well. In this paper, we study the spread of influence in the nonprogressive model under the strict majority threshold: given a graph G with...

A nonmonotone PRP conjugate gradient method for solving square and under-determined systems of equations

    Abstract
In this paper, we propose a new derivative-free preconditioned conjugate gradient method in order for solving large-scale square and under-determined nonlinear systems of equations. The proposed method is also equipped with a relaxed nonmonotone line search technique. Under some suitable assumptions, the global convergence property is established. Numerical results on some square and under-determined test systems show the efficiency and effectiveness of the new method in practice. An application of the new method for solving nonlinear integro-differential equations is also provided. © 2016 Elsevier Ltd

Improving penalty functions for structural optimization

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 16, Issue 4 A , 2009 , Pages 308-320 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Joghataie, A ; Takalloozadeh, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
New penalty functions, which have better convergence properties, as compared to the commonly used exterior and interior penalty functions, have been proposed in this paper. The convergence behavior and accuracy of ordinary penalty functions depend on the selection of appropriate penalty parameters. The optimization of ordinary penalty functions is accomplished after several rounds of optimization where, at each round a different but fixed value of penalty parameter is used. While some useful hints and rules for the selection of suitable penalty parameter values have been provided by different authors, the objective of this paper has been to improve this procedure by including the penalty...

LMI-based cooperative distributed model predictive control for Lipschitz nonlinear systems

    Abstract
In this paper, a distributed model predictive control is proposed to control Lipschitz nonlinear systems. The cooperative distributed scheme is considered where a global infinite horizon objective function is optimized for each subsystem, exploiting the state and input information of other subsystems. Thus, each control law is obtained separately as a state feedback of all system's states by solving a set of linear matrix inequalities. Due to convexity of the design, convergence properties at each iteration are established. Additionally, the proposed algorithm is modified to optimize only one control input at a time, which leads to a further reduction in the computation load. Finally, two...

Iteration PSO with time varying acceleration coefficients for solving non-convex economic dispatch problems

    , Article International Journal of Electrical Power and Energy Systems ; Volume 42, Issue 1 , November , 2012 , Pages 508-516 ; 01420615 (ISSN) Mohammadi Ivatloo, B ; Rabiee, A ; Soroudi, A ; Ehsan, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper presents a novel heuristic algorithm for solving economic dispatch (ED) problems, by employing iteration particle swarm optimization with time varying acceleration coefficients (IPSO-TVAC) method. Due to the effect of valve-points and prohibited operation zones (POZs) in the generating units' cost functions, ED problem is a non-linear and non-convex optimization problem. The problem even may be more complicated if transmission losses are taken into account. The effectiveness of the proposed method is examined and validated by carrying out extensive tests on three different test systems. Valve-point effects, POZs, ramp-rate constraints and transmission losses are modeled. Numerical...

    Abstract
The objective of the dynamic economic dispatch (DED) problem is to schedule power generation for the online units for a given time horizon economically, satisfying various operational constraints. Due to the effect of valve-point effects and prohibited operating zones (POZs) in the generating units cost functions, DED problem is a highly non-linear and non-convex optimization problem. The DED problem even may be more complicated if transmission losses and ramp-rate constraints are taken into account. This paper presents a novel and heuristic algorithm to solve DED problem of generating units, by employing time varying acceleration coefficients iteration particle swarm optimization...
