    Abstract
In this study, Fe3O4@Au/metal-organic frameworks (Fe3O4@Au/MOF) nanocomposite with flower-like core-shell structure was successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal route. The as-prepared catalyst was characterized using different techniques such as FT-IR, XRD, TEM, EDX, VSM, TGA, BET, and ICP. This nanocomposite exhibited an excellent catalytic performance in selective oxidation of cyclohexene to 2-cyclohexene-1-one by using molecular oxygen as green oxidant. The influence of reaction conditions including, pressure of molecular oxygen, temperature, time, solvent, and amount of catalyst on conversion and selectivity of products were evaluated. The activation energy (Ea) of the reaction was...

Titanium disulfide decorated hollow carbon spheres towards capacitive deionization

    Abstract
Freshwater scarcity in conjunction with population expansion puts human survival in doubt. Throughout the world, millions of people are deprived of clean and safe drinking water. The development of novel technologies to desalinate water is among the most valuable studies for humanity. Receiving benefits from low energy consumption, high environmental capability, and low-production cost, capacitive deionization (CDI) received significant attention in saline water desalination. Rational design of efficient electrode materials by tailoring their structural and compositional properties, therefore, plays a pivotal role in achieving high-performance CDI systems. Hollow carbon spheres (HCSs) with...

    Abstract
Hybrid nanostructures and nanoarchitectures possess unique physicochemical properties such as high activity/functionality, enhanced physicochemical stability, and improved biocompatibility, which renders them suitable for various biomedical, pharmaceutical, environmental, and catalytic applications. In this context, core–shell nanophotocatalysts have shown superior activity compared to their counterparts, namely, their individual pristine semiconductors and composite materials components. Thus, the development of various innovative core–shell nanostructures as photocatalysts is of practical relevance in view of their unique properties with salient advantageous features applicable to, among...

Silver nanoparticles with gelatin nanoshells: Photochemical facile green synthesis and their antimicrobial activity

    , Article Journal of Nanoparticle Research ; Volume 13, Issue 10 , October , 2011 , Pages 4647-4658 ; 13880764 (ISSN) Pourjavadi, A ; Soleyman, R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In the current study, a facile green synthesis of silver-gelatin core-shell nanostructures (spherical, spherical/cubic hybrid, and cubic, DLS diameter: 4.1-6.9 nm) is reported via the wet chemical synthesis procedure. Sunlight-UV as an available reducing agent cause mild reduction of silver ions into the silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs). Gelatin protein, as an effective capping/shaping agent, was used in the reaction to self-assemble silver nanostructures. The formation of silver nanostructures and their self-assembly pattern was confirmed by SEM, AFM, and TEM techniques. Further investigations were carried out using zeta-potential, UV-Vis, FTIR, GPC, and TGA/DTG/DTA data. The prepared Ag-NPs...
