Tolyltriazole (TTA) is a well-defined corrosion inhibitor for copper and copper alloys. However, there is little literature about its corrosion inhibition performance for mild steels in corrosive environments. This paper studied the electrochemical behavior of TTA in 0.5 M HCl solutions. Also, the morphology and nature of TTA layers on the steel surface were investigated. Electrochemical results showed that TTA is an excellent corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in acidic media with an efficiency of 91% for 0.07 M concentration. The results also indicated that TTA is a mixed-type inhibitor. XRD analysis revealed that the inhibition mechanism of TTA is based on the formation of an organic film...

In this study, fatigue, corrosion fatigue and electrochemical behaviors of butt-welded A106-B steel pipes were investigated. These pipes were subjected to mechanical and thermal cyclic stresses due to the internal pressure fluctuations and cooling-heating cycles. Residual stress measurements were carried out for three different depths through the thickness and were correlated to the microstructural observations and microhardness measurements. Results showed that the maximum tensile residual stresses existed at the boundary of weld metal and base metal because of the contraction-expansion effects resulting from phase transformations and cooling rate differences. Fatigue fractures occurred at...

Experimental parameters have direct influences on materials properties and therefore their applications. The effect of plasma power on the properties of cobalt oxide thin films, prepared using plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition technique, on stainless steel substrates have been addressed in this paper. The structural, morphological, and compositional properties of these films were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) technique. The XRD patterns demonstrated the growth of polycrystalline Co3O4 thin film with a cubic spinel structure such that the intensity of (511) and (311) peaks increase as the...

Commercial paints and coatings can serve as a protective barrier for metallic substrates in a corrosive environment. A considerable variety of nanostructures can be embedded in a polymeric coating to achieve both barrier and active protection. This research aims to elucidate the role of polyaniline (PANI) as an active polyelectrolyte modifier for the surface modification of mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) doped with zinc cations (Zn2+). To characterize the samples, we employed different techniques, including field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), N2 adsorption-desorption, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman...
