    Abstract
There are different choices for auction and settlement mechanisms in electricity markets; however, selecting the appropriate mechanisms is too hard. Traditionally, the offer cost minimization (OCM) mechanism that minimizes the total offer cost is used as the clearing mechanism, and payments are calculated based on locational marginal prices (LMPs). Under this setup, the clearing and settlement mechanisms are inconsistent, since the minimized cost is different from the total payment cost. Some recent studies have proposed the payment cost minimization (PCM) mechanism. However, the discussion is still open, and different aspects of these mechanisms are yet needed to be analyzed. This paper...

Payment Cost Minimization-Based Short-Term Unit Commitment Considering Incentive-Based Demand

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Azizi, Ali (Author) ; Hoseini, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
After restructuring in power systems, Independent System Operators (ISO's) are looked for an appropriate auction mechanism to find the market operation point. In deregulated electricity markets, Offer Cost Minimization (OCM) auction is used to minimize the total bid cost for selecting offer and demand bids. But a uniform market clearing price (MCP) or Locational Marginal Price (LMP) is used for consumer payments. Hence, the minimized bid cost is different from settlement cost. The used mechanisms are for manufactures offer and their cost functions optimization. The Payment Cost Minimization (PCM) is one of the mechanims that affect directly on the consumers payment and lead to reduction of...

Application of bat optimization algorithm in optimal power flow

    , Article 24th Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering, ICEE 2016, 10 May 2016 through 12 May 2016 ; 2016 , Pages 793-798 ; 9781467387897 (ISBN) Delkhosh Abatari, H ; Seyf Abad, M. S ; Seifi, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, Bat Algorithm is proposed to solve the Optimal Power Flow (OPF) problem. The approach employs a Meta heuristic optimization algorithm called bat optimization algorithm to determine the optimal settings of control variables of OPF problem. The performance of proposed method examined on the IEEE 9, 14, 30 and 57-buses test systems with fuel cost minimization as the objective function. The numerical results are compared to those of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Harmony Search (HS) and Cuckoo algorithms. Simulation results obtained from the proposed approach demonstrate that this method provide effective and robust high-quality answer for the OPF problem. © 2016 IEEE

    Abstract
We consider the design of an optimal natural-gas network. Our proposed network contains two echelons, Town Broad Stations (TBSs), and consumers (demand zones). Here, our aim is a two-stage cost minimization. We first determine locations of the TBS so that the location-allocation cost is minimized. Then, we show how to distribute the flow of gas among the TBS minimizing the flow cost by using Minimum Spanning Tree (MST). A case study in Mazandaran Gas Company in Iran is made to assess the validity and effectiveness of our proposed model

Evaluation of Lump Sum Contracts in the Organization for Development, Renovation and Equipping Schools

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shafaei, Mohsen (Author) ; Mofid, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The construction industry is one of the most important economic sectors, which shares a major part of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employment. In Iran many development projects are designed and implemented annually which billions of Rials are due as a result of construction and operation for executive bodies. The Organization for Development, Renovation and Equipping Schools (ODRES) as the executive branch of the Ministry of Education, is one of the largest construction bodies which undertakes construction of hundreds of educational, cultural and athletic projects annually. Given that the project delivery methods and the need to choose the correct method of contract payments exerts great...

Time Management in a Multi-Modal Routing Problem, Case Study: Rocoland Online Supermarket

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Taheria, Sina (Author) ; Eshghi, Koroush (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Communication growth in today’s world has affected every aspect of our lives. Transportation is an important part of our communication. Traveling, going from one place to another in a city or distribution of goods are examples of transportation. Transportation in which more than one vehicle is used from origin to destination is known as a multimodal transportation. This thesis is about a multimodal transportation problem for distribution of goods. Objective function is to minimize cost and there are constraints on the availability of the fleet. Also, it is possible in our model to use more cars with additional cost when the size of the fleet is not enough. The model is solved by optimization...

Improvement of Auction and Settlemtnt Mechanisms for Co-optimization of Payments to Suppliers for Energy and Spinning Reserve

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Nouri, Alireza (Author) ; Hosseini, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this dissertation, after analyzing the disadvantages of the offer cost minimization mechanism, it will be shown that it is necessary to find new auction mechanisms to be applied along with the fair, practical, and justifiable marginal pricing mechanism. Alternatively, the payment cost minimization mechanism has been proposed in the recent years. Different aspects of this mechanism have not been analyzed yet. There are many practical and economical considerations that yet need to be modeled in this mechanism and the problem formulation needs some improvements. As the first step, this mechanism will be compared with the traditionally offer cost minimization in a very simple market model....

Distribution system efficiency improvement by reconfiguration and capacitor placement using a modified particle swarm optimization algorithm

, Article EPEC 2010 - IEEE Electrical Power and Energy Conference: "Sustainable Energy for an Intelligent Grid", 25 August 2010 through 27 August 2010 ; August , 2010 ; 9781424481880 (ISBN) Rezaei, P ; Vakilian, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Capacitor placement/setting is one of the main means for loss reduction and voltage profile improvement in distribution systems. If capacitor placement is meant, the objective function will be the cost of energy losses besides the capacitors costs in a specified period of time. Here, reconfiguration can be used as a strategy to reform the base configuration of the distribution network in order to place the capacitors more efficiently with lower costs. On the other hand, if capacitors are already available in a network, optimum capacitors setting and network reconfiguration should be performed for power loss minimization. In this paper both power loss minimization and capacitor placement cost...

    Abstract
In this study, the optimal sizing and performance analysis of a standalone integrated solar power system equipped with different storage scenarios to supply the power demand of a household is presented. One of the main purposes when applying solar energy resource is to face the increasing environmental pollutions resulting from fossil fuel based electricity sector. To this end, and to compare and examine two energy storage technologies (battery and hydrogen storage technology), three storage scenarios including battery only, hydrogen storage technology only and hybrid storage options are evaluated. An optimization framework based on Energy Hub concept is used to determine the optimum sizes...
