    Deployment of an array of water-cherenkov detectors for extensive air shower experiments

    Abstract
    A new small array of cherenkov detectors has been deployed in Tehran, 1200 m above sea level. This array contains of four tanks full of distilled water with diameter of 64 cm and height of 130 cm. The effective area of each tank is about 6.5 × 103cm2 . They are used to detect the air showers and to record the arrival time of the secondary particles. We have collected about 486643 EAS in 5270 h of observation time from Nov-2006 to May-2007. We find zenith and azimuth distribution of EAS with this array. A cosn θ distribution with n = 7.3±0.1 was obtained for zenith angle.     Abstract
    Quantum-Dot Cellular Automata (QCA) is a novel field of nanotechnology which is being designed and implemented in molecular scales. It has major advantageous over transistor based technology such as: low power consumption, high information transition speed, small size and high density. It has been shown that conventional transistor based circuits can be implemented in this nanotechnology with less complexity. Furthermore, binary circuits can be implemented in QCA technology since QCA cells have only two independent and equivalent states. So, QCA provides appropriate space for computational circuits.     An index for characterizing wettability of reservoir rocks is presented using slope analysis of spontaneous imbibition recovery data. The slope analysis is performed using the known exact analytical solution to infinite acting period of counter-current spontaneous imbibition. The proposed theoretically based wettability index offers some advantages over existing methods: (1) it is a better measure of the spontaneous imbibition potential of rock (because the magnitude is directly proportional to the imbibition rate); (2) there is no need for forced displacement data; (3) there is no need for waiting until the spontaneous imbibition process ceases completely; and (4) the data needed to run the...

    Abstract
    Digital watermarking is an efficacious technique to protect the copyright and ownership of digital information. Traditional image watermarking algorithms embed a logo in the image that reduces its visual quality. A new approach in watermarking called zero watermarking doesn’t need to embed a logo in the image. In this algorithm we find a feature from the main image and combine it with a logo to obtain a key. This key is securely kept by a trusted authority.     Abstract
    The digital sensor module is developed to sample the input signal fed from a photo-sensor probe at sampling times ranging from 400-4000 μs equivalent to sampling rates of 2500-250 sample/second (S/s), respectively. The module produces 16-bit data packets which are transmitted serially and plotted to output the photoplethysmography signal (PPG).     Abstract
    For the first time since 1940 and presentation of theodorson's theory, distribution of thrust, torque and efficiency along the blade of a counter rotating propeller axial fan was studied with a novel method in this research. A constant chord, constant pitch symmetric fan was investigated with Reynolds Stress Turbulence method in this project and H.E.S. method was utilized to obtain distribution profiles from C.F.D. tests outcome. C.F.D. test results were validated by estimation from Playlic's analytical method.     In order to be more precise to find primary cosmic particles directions, nowadays detectors and data analysis for studying secondary particles in extensive air showers have an ongoing progress and water Cherenkov detector is considered as a secondary particle detector. Our aim in this paper is to optimize the size and the inner surface characteristic of a cylindrical water Cherenkov tank with one PMT. By comparing simulation outputs with experiments results, we show that the diffusing inner surface is more practical than the reflective inner surface and we conclude that the optimum height for a diffusing tank with a diameter of 45cm is 60cm

    Abstract
    A new air shower experiment of the Alborz Observatory, Alborz-I, located at the Sharif University of Technology, Iran, will be constructed in near future. An area of about 30×40 m2 will be covered by 20 plastic scintillation detectors (each with an area of 50×50 cm2). A series of experiments have been performed to optimize the height of light enclosures of the detectors for this array and the results have been compared to an extended code simulation of these detectors. Operational parameters of the detector obtained by this code are cross checked by the Geant4 simulation. There is a good agreement between the extended-code and Geant4 simulations.     Analysis of microparticle size and fluorescence intensity can be used to classify microparticles. We designed and fabricated an optofluidic system that characterizes microparticles, including fluorescent microparticles and microalgae. A new type of multi-pixel photon counter (MPPC) was employed to miniaturize the device, lower its power consumption, and make it insensitive to magnetic fields.     In this work, hydrodynamic effects of multiple squared cross-section cold jets inclined normally into a hot cross flow were computationally simulated using large eddy simulation (LES) approach. The finite volume method and the SIMPLE algorithm on a multi-block non-uniform staggered grid were applied. The jet into cross flow velocity ratio and the jet Reynolds number were 0.5 and 4,700, respectively.     The present study investigated a counter-flow cooling tower performance by integrating the Artificial Neural Networks and Intelligent Optimisation Algorithms (ANN-IOAs).
