Real-time parameter identification for highly coupled nonlinear systems using Adaptive Particle Swarm Optimization

    , Article Mechanika ; Volume 86, Issue 6 , 2010 , Pages 43-49 ; 13921207 (ISSN) Ranjbar Sahraei, B ; Nemati, A ; Safavi, A. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The In this paper, an Adaptive Particle Swarm Optimization (APSO) method is proposed for parameter identification of highly coupled electromechanical systems. Using some modifications on the APSO, better computational efficiency is achieved. In this way, the speed of real-time identification procedure is improved. In addition, to show the effectiveness of the proposed method, it is implemented on a real ball on plate setup and its dynamic model is achieved. Both the simulation and the experimental results show that parameter identification of the proposed algorithm is significantly improved when compared with other existing identification methods based on the traditional PSO and Genetic...

Instability of nanocantilever arrays in electrostatic and van der waals interactions

    , Article Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics ; Volume 42, Issue 22 , 2009 ; 00223727 (ISSN) Ramezani, A ; Alasty, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
The structural instability of an array of cantilevers, each of which interacts with two neighbouring beams through electrostatic and van der Waals forces, is studied. Distributed and lumped parameter modelling of the array result in a set of coupled nonlinear boundary value problems and a set of coupled nonlinear equations, respectively. These coupled nonlinear systems are solved numerically for different numbers of beams in the array to obtain the pull-in parameters. The pull-in parameters converge to constant values with an increase in the number of beams in the array. These constants, which are important in the design of cantilever arrays, are compared for the distributed and lumped...

Nonlinear vibration of a three-dimensional moving gantry crane subjected to a travelling trolley hoisting a swinging object

    , Article Transactions of the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering ; Volume 34, Issue 3-4 , 2010 , Pages 333-350 ; 03158977 (ISSN) Younesian, D ; Ghafoori, E ; Sadeghpour, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Nonlinear vibration of a three-dimensional moving gantry crane carrying a trolley hoisting a swinging object is studied in this paper.A finite element method is used to solve nonlinear coupled governing equations of the structure. A combinational technique (Newmark-Runge-Kutta) is employed for direct integration procedure. To develop a comprehensive parametric study and sensitivity analysis of the coupled nonlinear system, sequence of numerical simulations are carried out. Parametric study is directed to find out how different parameters like speed and acceleration of the trolley and gantry crane as well as the mass of the moving trolley and swinging object may affect the linear and...
