    Abstract
Cloud Manufacturing (CM) as a successful manufacturing business model and a major driver of Industry 4.0 has attracted a lot of attention in recent years. CM idea aims to streamline the on-demand provisioning of manufacturing resources and capabilities as services, providing end-users with flexible and scalable services accessible through global networks. This idea created many opportunities and challenges. One of the critical challenges is resource allocation, which determines who interacts with whom and how in the CM platform. The type of the platform is a determining factor for the selection of the appropriate resource allocation. To analyze the impact of the allocation on the utilities,...

Floating-ECC: dynamic repositioning of error correcting code bits for extending the lifetime of STT-RAM caches

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Computers ; Volume 65, Issue 12 , 2016 , Pages 3661-3675 ; 00189340 (ISSN) Farbeh, H ; Kim, H ; Miremadi, S. G ; Kim, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Spin-Transfer Torque RAM (STT-RAM) is a promising alternative to SRAM for implementing on-chip L2 and L3 caches. One of the most critical challenges in STT-RAM is reliability due to limited write endurance, which results in insufficient lifetime, as well as various types of errors. Previous studies have focused on either presenting various cache architectures/management techniques to improve the lifetime of STT-RAM caches or utilizing different Error Correcting Codes (ECCs) to protect against the permanent and transient errors. However, there is no quantitative analysis in the literature to determine the impact of ECCs on the lifetime of the STT-RAM caches. This paper formulates this impact...

Dynamic VNF placement, resource allocation and traffic routing in 5G

    , Article Computer Networks ; Volume 188 , April , 2021 ; 13891286 (ISSN) Golkarifard, M ; Chiasserini, C. F ; Malandrino, F ; Movaghar, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
5G networks are going to support a variety of vertical services, with a diverse set of key performance indicators (KPIs), by using enabling technologies such as software-defined networking and network function virtualization. It is the responsibility of the network operator to efficiently allocate the available resources to the service requests in such a way to honor KPI requirements, while accounting for the limited quantity of available resources and their cost. A critical challenge is that requests may be highly varying over time, requiring a solution that accounts for their dynamic generation and termination. With this motivation, we seek to make joint decisions for request admission,...

    Abstract
Solar energy exists extensively in all parts of the world. However the intermittency of solar energy presents critical challenges to PV system. The intermittency can be covered by storing solar energy in chemical bonds such as hydrogen. This process can be performed by photovoltaic powered electrolysis of water. The energy transfer efficiency between PV and electrolyzer is subject to the distance between maximum power points (MPP) of PV module and operating points. The operating points can be adjusted by optimizing the design parameters of the electrolyzer but the maximum power points are function of PV module characteristics, solar radiation and ambient temperature. Therefore the weather...

    Abstract
Electrochemical exfoliation of graphite has recently attracted a big attention as a simple, fast and scalable method for the preparation of high quality graphene, but there are some drawbacks that hinder its application. Direct deposition is one of the most critical challenges that makes it difficult to deposit uniform, compact and large scale graphene thin films. This work develops a facile electrophoretic deposition route to fabricate exfoliated graphene (EG) film on Ag nanowires (NWs) networks with a controllable film thickness in nanometers scale. EG thin films are deposited with different applied potentials and times from an EG dispersion in N, N-dimethylformamide solvent. Since...
