    Cognitive radio (CR) technology is envisaged to solve the problems in wireless networks resulting from the limited available spectrum and the inefficiency in the spectrum usage by exploiting the existing wireless spectrum opportunistically. CR networks, however, impose unique challenges due to the high fluctuation in the available spectrum as well as diverse quality-of-service (QoS) requirements.     In this paper, we study the impact of sensing error and channel fading on the decision process of a multiple secondary user network in a primary network whose channel occupancy states are modelled as a Bernoulli process. We present a randomized access strategy to maximize total secondary network throughput. The proposed method guarantees that the probability of collision between primary and secondary users in each channel is less than the predefined value of Pc = ξ. To find the optimal access strategy, we formulate secondary network throughput as an optimization problem.     Flooding algorithm is one of the most significant algorithms used in sensor networks. Although simple, this algorithm causes a large amount of energy and bandwidth to be wasted.     In this paper we introduce a novel cross layer design between MAC and physical layers. Our novel design is based on controlling the adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) transmission mode at the physical layer according to the queue length of finite buffer at the data link layer and each transmission mode of AMC.     In this paper, a cross-layer approach introducing new design parameters is developed for multi-rate wireless links. The novel design jointly exploits the finite-length queuing at the data link layer and the adaptation capability of the adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) scheme at the physical layer to optimize system performance for a wireless link. The analytical framework is based on discrete time Markov Chain. The performance metrics such as packet drop probability, channel packet error rate and packet loss rate are derived. However, it increases data delivery latency. In this paper, we propose an Interference-aware duty-cycle MAC (IMAC) protocol for wireless sensor networks that uses cross-layer information to reserve multiple paths for each source and send data packets along them efficiently.
