    Abstract
Copper oxide-titania catalysts with nanocrystalline mesoporous structure were prepared by sol-gel technique using tetra isopropyl ortho titanate (TiPT) as the inorganic precursor and amino-2 ethanol as the swelling agent. Characterization was performed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), fourier transformed infrared spectra (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), diffuse reflectance UV-Vis spectroscopy (DRS), and N2 adsorption-desorption measurements. It was found that CuO (0.025-0.1 mol ratio) has some effect on the particle size, surface area, pore-volume, pore-diameter, crystallinity of the particles, and crystalline phase of TiO2 nanocrystalline. The results indicated that 0.1 CuO-TiO2...

    Abstract
In this study, the effect of adding 5–12.5 wt% CuO to TiO2 on photocatalytic properties of the nano-composite TiO2/CuO was investigated. The products were characterized by X-ray diffractometer, SEM, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), and DRS. BET-specific surface area of the TiO2/CuO composites was lower than that of the pure TiO2. Incorporation of CuO into TiO2 shifted absorption spectra to the visible region. As the CuO content increased from 0 to 12.5%, a clear decrease in optical band gap from 2.95 to 2.30 eV was observed. The photocatalytic performance was determined by methyl orange degradation and cyanide photo-oxidation under ultraviolet irradiation. However, the excessive incorporation...

    Abstract
The present study deals with the investigation of Cu2+, Ni2+ and Pd2+ chelating potential of the Schiff base, (E)-N-(2-((2-hydroxybenzylidene)amino)benzyl)-4-methylbenzenesulfonamide (H2SB). Crystal structures of Ni(HSB)2, Pd(HSB)2 and Cu(HSB)2 have been elucidated from single crystal X-ray diffraction data. NMR spectroscopy showed the presence of two conformers of Pd(HSB)2 in solution, both with an E configuration of the ligand. The determination of binding constants by fluorescence quenching showed that affinity of H2SB to Cu2+ in solution is higher than for Ni2+ and Pd2+. Since there is a high demand for selective, sensitive, rapid and simple methods to detect copper in aqueous samples...

    Abstract
In this study, we present fabrication and characterization of a gas ionization sensor based on high aspect ratio one-dimensional CuO nanowires as the field enhancing medium. Self-organized arrays of CuO nanowires have been synthesized based on a low-cost thermal oxidation method and integrated into a gas ionization sensor (GIS). The self-organized arrays of CuO nanowires have been employed to detect the identity of several gas species such as He, Ar and CO at ambient temperature and pressure. The sharp nanoscale size of CuO tips provide very high electric fields at moderate voltages (less than 100 V) and provoke the breakdown of different gases. The reduced breakdown current of the metal...

    Abstract
Resistive sensors composed of SnO2 and CuO, are known to be highly efficient in detection of detrimental H2S gas in terms of sensitivity, selectivity and speed. Recently, dependency of electrical response of the sensor toward H2S gas concentration has been related to the selective mechanism (formation of CuS) by a theoretical model. Another important factor in design of gas sensors is the working temperature which so far has not been explicitly explained for H2S sensing process of SnO2-CuO system. In present study, origin of this temperature for SnO2-CuO thin bilayer based on the selective mechanism has been theoretically interpreted. For this purpose, Poisson, Laplace and continuity...

    Abstract
Enhancing stability against photocorrosion and improving photocurrent response are the main challenges toward the development of cupric oxide (CuO) based photocathodes for solar-driven hydrogen production. In this paper, stable and efficient CuO-photocathodes have been developed using in situ materials engineering and through gold-palladium (Au-Pd) nanoparticles deposition on the CuO surface. The CuO photocathode exhibits a photocurrent generation of ∼3 mA/cm2 at 0 V v/s RHE. Time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS) analysis and X-ray spectroscopy (XPS) confirm the formation of oxygen-rich (O-rich) CuO film which demonstrates a highly stable photocathode with retained...

    Abstract
We analyze an experiment in which two distinct superconducting phases YBa2Cu3O7-δ (Y123) and Y 3Ba5Cu8O18-δ (Y358) coexisted. This experiment enabled us to characterize the recently introduced Y358 phase in contrast to the Y123 phase, thus to resolve some discrepancies reported in associated properties of Y358. Specifically, our experiment indicates the transition temperature Tmid C = 105 K and 94 K for Y358 and Y123, respectively, and that Y358 has five CuO2 planes and three CuO chains, with Pmm2 symmetry and lattice parameter (a, b, c) = (3.845, 3.894, 31.093) Å, in agreement with density functional theory predictions for this specific structure

    Abstract
Up to now, attempts for developing coarse-grained SnO2-based varistors which exhibit high nonlinearity property at lower voltage have become a challenge without any prominent result because of its unknown grain growth mechanism. In this study, the effect of CuO addition to SnO2-based varistors as a grain growth enhancer additive on microstructural development, grain growth kinetics, and electrical properties was investigated. The characterization of grain growth kinetics showed that CuO addition encouraged grain growth and enhanced the grains size as it could be seen in the activation energy which decreased from 594 kJ/mol to 364 kJ/mol. In the samples with a low amount of CuO, the solute...

    Abstract
Amine-functionalized MIL-101(Cr) has been synthesized by hydrothermal (MNH2) and post-synthetic modification (MNH2-p) approaches. Pd/MNH2 and Pd/MNH2-p have been tested in CO oxidation reaction as a gas phase reaction to clarify the difference between two synthesis approaches. Their performance has also been compared with that of Pd supported on MIL as a common MOF and CuBTC as a commercial one. The results show the significant difference between Pd/MNH2-p and Pd/MNH2, where CO conversion of 100% was not observed for Pd/MNH2-p, whereas Pd/MNH2 outperformed the others and exhibited the high reaction rate thanks to the active sites created by amorphization during the reduction process because...
