    Synthesis and Characterization of Cyclometalated Platinum Complexes Containing 2-Vinylpyridine Ligand

    Abstract
    The cyclometalated platinum(II) complex [Pt(Me)(bhq)(2-vpy)], 2, in which bhq = benzo{h}quinolone, 2-vpy = 2-vinylpyridine, has been prepared by reaction of the cyclometalated complex [Pt(Me) bhq)(SMe2)], 1 with one equiv 2-vinylpyridine. The similar complex [Pt(p-tolyl)(ppy)(2-vpy)], 3 in which ppy = 2-phenyl pyridine, has been prepared from reaction of the platinum(II) complex cis-[Pt(p-MeC6H4)2(SMe2)2] with one equiv 2-phenylpyridine and one equiv 2-vinylpyridine. Reaction of 2 with one equiv Br2 in acetone gave the cyclometalated platinum(IV) complex [Pt(bhq)Me(Br)(NC5H4CHCH2Br)], 4. The structure of the complexes 1-3 were determined using NMR Spectroscopy.     The bis(cyclometalated) platinum(II) complexes of the type [Pt(ppy)(p′py)], in which ppy = p′py = 2-(p-tolyl)pyridine, 6; ppy = 2-(3-bromophenyl)pyridine, p′py = 2-(p-tolyl)pyridine, 7; ppy = 2-(2,4-difluorophenyl)pyridine, p′py = 2-(p-tolyl)pyridine, 8; ppy = 2-(2,4-difluorophenyl)pyridine, p′py = 2-(2,4-difluorophenyl)pyridine, 9, have been prepared from the reaction of the cyclometalated platinum(II) complex [Pt(ppy)Me(SMe2)] with one equiv p′py and one equiv B(C6F5)3.     The cyclometalated heterobinuclear platinum-gold complexes [PtMe(bhq)(dppy)AuCl], 2, and [PtMe(bhq)(dppy)Au(NHC1)] PF6, 3, in which bhq= benzo{h}quinoline, dppy = 2-diphenylphosphinopyridine and NHC1 = 1,3-dimethylimidazol-2-ylidine have been prepared by reaction of the cyclometalated platinum complex [PtMe(bhq)(dppy)], 1, with 1 equivalent of AuCl(SMe2) or 1 equivalent of [Au(NHC1)]+ (prepared from ClAu(NHC1) and AgPF6), respectively. First, The tetranuclear cluster [Ag2Pt2(Cl2)(bhq2)(μ-(PPh2)2py)2](OTf)2, 1, from the reaction of 1 equivalent of Pt(bhq)Cl(SMe2), with 1 equivalent of AgOTf and μ-(PPh2)2py ligand has been prepared.     The bis-cyclometalated platinum(II) complexes [Pt(ptpy)2], 3, and [Pt(fppy)2], 4, in which, ptpy = 2-(p-tolyl)pyridine and fppy = 2-(2,4-difluorophenyl)pyridine have been prepared. The reaction of 3 with one equiv [Au(PPh3)]+ (prepared from the reaction between AuCl(PPh3) and AgOTf) gave the heterobinuclear complex [Pt(ptpy)2Au(PPh3)].OTf, 5, by formation of a Pt→Au dative bond.     The cationic cyclometalated platinum(II) complex [Pt(ⱪ2-2-ppy)(ⱪ1-N-2-ppy)2][OTF], 2, has been prepared by reaction of [PtMe3I]4, 1, with one equiv Ag(OTF) and then three equiv 2-phenylpyridine. The similar complex with formula [Pt(ⱪ2-p′py)(ⱪ1-N-p′py)2][OTF], in which p′py = 2-(3-bromophenyl)pyridine, 4, has been prepared with similar procedure, from the reaction of 1 with one equiv Ag(OTF) and then three equiv of the corresponding cyclometalating ligand.     Abstract
    The binuclear cyclometalated complexes [Pt2Me 2(ppy)2(μ-dppm)], 1a, and [Pt2Me 2(bhq)2(μ-dppm)], 1b, in which ppy = 2-phenylpyridyl, bhq = benzo{h}quinoline and dppm = bis(diphenylphosphino)methane, were synthesized by the reaction of [PtMe(SMe2)(ppy)] or [PtMe(SMe 2)(bhq)] with 1/2 equiv of dppm at room temperature, respectively.     Abstract
    The preparation of two new azulene-based imine ligands N-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-6-tBu-1-azulenylmethaneimine, 3, and N-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-6-tBu-3-(2,6-diisopropylphenyliminomethyl)-1-azulenylmethaneimine, 4, is described. These imine ligands display stimuli responsive emissive behavior and their fluorescence can be switched on and off by protonation and neutralization with trifluoroacetic acid and trimethylamine, respectively. The cyclometalation of the monoimine ligand by platinum gave the cyclometalated complex [PtMe(SMe2)(3′)], 5, (where the prime denotes the cyclometalated ligand 3).
