Modeling pedestrian's decision at street crossing

, Article Traffic and Transportation Studies - Proceedings of the Fourth International Conference on Traffic and Transportation Studies, Dalian, 2 August 2004 through 4 August 2004 ; Volume 4 , 2004 , Pages 127-137 ; 7030137809 (ISBN) Nassiri, H ; Amooghin, Y. Abstract
Safe and efficient pedestrian movement is an important issue of concern in traffic engineering. Evaluation and identification of effective parameters in pedestrians' decision-making process when crossing a street can be beneficial in improving their safety. In this report, two streets in Tehran, Iran were selected to study the pedestrians' crossing. The data from the video films at these locations were used to fit the logit and nested logit models. The results indicate that factors such as arrival time of first nearside vehicle to crosswalk, headway between first and second vehicle approaching the crosswalk, vehicles platoon size and their approaching speed in each lane, pedestrians' age,...

Use of technology mapping in identification of fuel cell sub-technologies

    , Article International Journal of Hydrogen Energy ; Volume 35, Issue 17 , 2010 , Pages 9516-9525 ; 03603199 (ISSN) Arasti, M. R ; Bagheri Moghaddam, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Technology Identification involves developing a list of technologies which are, or may be, incorporated into products or processes. After reviewing Technology Assessment, Technology Strategy, Management of Technology and New Product Development in literature, four methods of Technology Identification are investigated: Value Chain of Technologies, Process-based Approach, Quality Function Deployment and Technology Mapping. A model facilitating decision making process is then proposed by which the most appropriate method to be employed is identified. The proposed model is examined in specific case of fuel cell technologies while preparing the Fuel cell Development Strategic Plan of Iran. 1...

A Contemporary Higher Education Student-Choice Model and Decision Making Process In International Campus Universities In Developing Countries: A Case Study of Iran

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Etemadoleslami Bakhtiyari, Ali (Author) ; Miremadi, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the last two decades of the twentieth century, international Campus universities around the world were emphasized on financial sources rather than public or government universities. Therefore, the competition for qualified students has increased contemporarily with the student awareness about the programs and services offered by international campus universities located in Iran. The purpose of this study is to discover the factors that influence students’ choice model and decision making process in an international campus .To achieve it, we first performed the exploratory research to extract the factors which influence the students’ choice model by reviewing literature review and we...

Assessment of vulnerability reduction policies: Integration of economic and cognitive models of decision-making

    , Article Reliability Engineering and System Safety ; Volume 217 , 2022 ; 09518320 (ISSN) Morshedi, M. A ; Kashani, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
Earthquakes can cause significant damage to vulnerable residential buildings and cause irreversible adverse economic, social, and socioeconomic consequences. Implementing hazard mitigation policies can enhance homeowners' willingness to adopt hazard mitigation measures such as seismic retrofits or insurance. Several past studies have proposed models that aimed to explain individuals' hazard mitigation behavior. Despite their advantages, these decision-making models are subject to limitations. This manuscript proposes a new decision-making model that addresses the shortcomings of previous models. The proposed decision-making model is then incorporated at the core of an agent-based model to...

An Efficient Decision Making Model for Reducing the Rate of Crashes in Accidents in Iran

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Paydar Zarnaghi, Mahnaz (Author) ; Kourosh, Eshghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Today the losses due to road accidents in Iran are very high. For this reason, it is essential to investigate the effective factors on the road accidents. Therefore, at first, there is a need to identify the solutions of reducing the accidents, their priories and finally their efficiency improvement. In this research, using Hierarchical Analysis Method, the solutions to reduce the accidents are prioritized and then In order to conduct the AHP analysis, Expert Choice software was chosen. According to research findings, the factors that lead to accidents are categorized as: Human factors, road environmental factors, vehicle, natural factors and managerial factors. The findings show that in...

A fuzzy multi-criteria approach to sustainable island-based tourism development

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 28, Issue 2 , 2021 , Pages 682-699 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Abrishamchi, A ; Mounesan, A. A ; Maknoon, R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper aims to propose a framework by which decision-makers can evaluate and compare alternatives for sustainable island-based tourism development. The uncertainties and risks involved in information and judgment within the evaluation process were taken into account by using a hybrid approach, which combined the Delphi method, fuzzy set theory, and a discrete multi-criteria method based on prospect theory called TODIM (an acronym in Portuguese of interactive and multiple-criteria decision making). The decision making model examined 3 different techniques for aggregating the viewpoints of different decision-makers and explored how the aggregation technique would affect the ranking of the...

Selecting of cementing material in green lightweight concrete with Oil Palm Shell (OPS)

    , Article Research Journal of Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology ; Volume 4, Issue 12 , 2012 , Pages 1729-1739 ; 20407459 (ISSN) Mohamad, M. I ; Nekooie, M. A ; Mahdinezhad, M ; Hosseini, P ; Taherkhani, R ; Saleh, A. L ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Floating urbanization could be the subject of a green flood mitigation strategy. The main part of any floating house is the buoyant part, which is made from concrete pontoons. Aggregates play the most important role in making concrete a lightweight material. Oil Palm Shell (OPS) is an agricultural waste material, which is widely available in South East Asia. This study tries to select the best cementing material from waste and produced pozzolans, to improve the specifications of green lightweight concrete with Oil Palm Shell (OPS), using decision-making methods. The decision making model was conducted by the application of a Fuzzy Preference Selection Index (PSI). Quantitative data was...

Sea-level rise impacts on seawater intrusion in coastal aquifers: review and integration

    , Article Journal of Hydrology ; Volume 535 , 2016 , Pages 235-255 ; 00221694 (ISSN) Ketabchi, H ; Mahmoodzadeh, D ; Ataie Ashtiani, B ; Simmons, C. T ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Sea-level rise (SLR) influences groundwater hydraulics and in particular seawater intrusion (SWI) in many coastal aquifers. The quantification of the combined and relative impacts of influential factors on SWI has not previously been considered in coastal aquifers. In the present study, a systematic review of the available literature on this topic is first provided. Then, the potential remaining challenges are scrutinized. Open questions on the effects of more realistic complexities such as gradual SLR, parameter uncertainties, and the associated influences in decision-making models are issues requiring further investigation. We assess and quantify the seawater toe location under the impacts...
