The effect of remelting on the melt and casting quality in Al-7%Si-Mg castings

    , Article Materials Science and Engineering A ; Vol. 605 , 2014 , Pages 203-209 ; ISSN: 09215093 Eisaabadi, B. G ; Tiryakioglu, M ; Davami, P ; Kim, S. K ; Yoon, Y. O ; Yeom, G. Y ; Kim, N. S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
An experiment was conducted to determine whether allowing an aluminum melt to solidify in the crucible and later remelting it would improve the quality of the melt and the casting. To investigate this, data were collected through reduced pressure test, density measurement, metallography, X-ray radiography and tensile testing and analyzed statistically. Results indicated that remelting improved the quality of the melt by reduction of the number of defects in the casting and their area and volume fractions. The improvement in elongation of remelted specimens was found to be statistically significant. Analysis of deformation characteristics showed that the improvement in elongation is due to...

Deformation characteristics evaluation of modified equal channel angular pressing processes

    , Article Materials Transactions ; Volume 51, Issue 1 , 2010 , Pages 46-50 ; 13459678 (ISSN) Yoon, S. C ; Nagasekhar, A. V ; Yoo, J. H ; El Aal, M. I. A ; Vaseghi, M ; Kim, H. S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In current studies, equal channel angular pressing process (ECAP) and modified ECAP processes are simulated under ideal conditions to compare the deformation characteristics. The deformation behaviour is more complicated and the strain induced during the processes is highly non-uniform in the modified ECAP processes except in the equal channel multi-angular pressing (ECMAP) process with Route C. The strain homogeneity is more of a possibility with ECAP and ECMAP with Route C processes. The deformation stress state is widely distributed in nature in modified ECAP processes than in conventional ECAP. In addition, the load requirements are also higher in modified ECAP processes with that of the...

Contribution of steel fiber as reinforcement to the properties of cement-based concrete: a review

    , Article Computers and Concrete ; Volume 20, Issue 2 , 2017 , Pages 155-164 ; 15988198 (ISSN) Najigivi, A ; Nazerigivi, A ; Nejati, H. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
During the past decades, development of reinforcing materials caused a revolution in the structure of high strength and high performance cement-based concrete. Among the most important and exciting reinforcing materials, Steel Fiber (SF) becomes a widely used in the recent years. The main reason for addition of SF is to enhance the toughness and tensile strength and limit development and propagation of cracks and deformation characteristics of the SF blended concrete. Basically this technique of strengthening the concrete structures considerably modifies the physical and mechanical properties of plain cement-based concrete which is brittle in nature with low flexural and tensile strength...

Deformation and creep characteristics of AA7075-T76 at elevated temperatures

    , Article Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance ; Volume 31, Issue 9 , 2022 , Pages 7586-7595 ; 10599495 (ISSN) Safarloo, S ; Serajzadeh, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer  2022
    Abstract
In this work, deformation behavior as well as creep and cavitation of AA7075-T76 were studied. The as-received plate was first stabilized utilizing solution treatment followed by two-stage artificial aging at 120 and 180 °C. Then, tensile tests were carried out on the aged-alloy in the temperature range between 120 and 250 °C under strain rates of 0.0005 and 0.005 s−1. Furthermore, stress-controlled creep tests were performed at temperatures varying between 120 and 210 °C at stresses ranging from 130 to 250 MPa. Microstructural evolution was then conducted to assess the microstructural changes and growth of cavities during creep employing optical metallography and scanning electron...

New modeling for moment-rotation behavior of bolted endplate connections

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 18, Issue 4 A , August , 2011 , Pages 827-834 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Mohamadi Shoore, M. R ; Mofid, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
A new exponential model to depict the moment-rotation (M-θ) relationship of Bolted Endplate Connections (BEC) is proposed. The proposed model represents an approach to the prediction of M-O curves, taking into account the possible failure modes and the deformation characteristics of the connection elements. The presented model has three physical parameters, along with two curve-fitted factors. These physical parameters are generated from dimensional details of the connection, as well as the material properties. By employing simplified connection behavioral models to estimate the connection M-θ behavior, analytical expressions for evaluating major connection parameters, such as initial...
