Application of MLP-ANN strategy to predict higher heating value of biomass in terms of proximate analysis

    , Article Energy Sources, Part A: Recovery, Utilization and Environmental Effects ; Volume 39, Issue 22 , 2017 , Pages 2105-2111 ; 15567036 (ISSN) Keybondorian, E ; Zanbouri, H ; Bemani, A ; Hamule, T ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
One of the important parameters in development of bioenergy industry and economical investigation of fuels is higher heating value (HHV) of biomass in the present study; multi-layer perceptron (MLP) artificial neural network was applied to predict HHV of biomass in terms of volatile matters (VMs), fixed carbon (FC), and ash content (ASH). The purposed algorithm was trained and tested by utilizing 350 experimental data points which extracted from literature. Based on results, the MLP-ANN has great ability to estimate HHV for biomass. This method can be developed as a user-friendly software for prediction of HHV of the fuel in terms of proximate analysis. The predicting software can be wide...

An investigation on the dynamic response of the shaking table steel deck using finite element

, Article 11th World Congress on Computational Mechanics, WCCM 2014, 5th European Conference on Computational Mechanics, ECCM 2014 and 6th European Conference on Computational Fluid Dynamics, ECFD 2014 ; 2014 , pp. 1330-1340 ; ISBN: 9788494284472 Moghaddam, H ; Farzanian, K ; Taheri, E ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This paper presents the results of an analytical study on the dynamic characteristics of the Shaking Table facilities at Sharif University. This 3 degree of freedom shaking table is driven by 3 servo-control hydraulic actuators, and consists of a 12 ton, 4m×4m×0.6m steel deck. The main objective of this investigation is to identify the degree of flexibility of the deck, and its adverse effects in causing errors in the simulation of seismic effects on different structural specimens. Many frame specimens of different weights and configurations are subjected to seismic motions, and their responses are calculated using FE models. Some of these models were designed to account for eccentric...

Motion estimation of uncooperative space objects: A case of multi-platform fusion

    , Article Advances in Space Research ; Volume 62, Issue 9 , 2018 , Pages 2665-2678 ; 02731177 (ISSN) Zarei Jalalabadi, M ; Malaek, S. M. B ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This work describes an efficient technique to sequentially combine estimates resulting from individual sets of measurements provided by a network of satellites. The prescribed method is especially effective to estimate motion states of an uncooperative space object using range image data. The technique, which is fast and suitable for on-line applications, could also be effective to capture stray objects or those satellites that require periodic servicing. Such missions call for high degree of precision and reliable estimation methods. In fact, the proposed estimation architecture consists of a network of synchronized platforms, i.e., Observer Satellites (OS), each with processing power and...
