    Abstract
Feedback vibration is a standard feature in almost every home video game console controller to vibrate in selected circumstances, such as when the user's character kick the ball or hit the opponent, to immerse the player in the game. In the handheld game consoles this feature causes the handheld game consoles to vibrate. But the handheld game consoles are different than home video game consoles. In this paper we examine the suitability of using feedback vibration in the handheld game consoles. We evaluated feedback vibration popularity among the users. We used Nintendo DS handheld game consoles for this evaluation

    Abstract
By rapid growth of technology in recent years, many services are provided for disabled people. Using wireless devices such as mobile phones in healthcare is a new idea which is gained attracted by some developers in recent years. On the other hand, nowadays game consoles are not only for playing games, but also have more functions such as using for education. Considering the above mentioned facts, this paper proposes a method to aid speech-impaired children using Nintendo DS Game console. This method helps the speech-impaired children which are not capable of using sign language well to communicate with others until they learn sign language well. Because the Nintendo DS is the most popular...

Guiding tourists using nintendo DS game console

    Abstract
Tourism industry is an important and money-making profession in many countries. The appropriate and quick submission of primary information such as historical sites to the tourists is very effective in attracting them. Of course the tourism tools have undergone some changes and variations in accordance with technology advances and development of people's behavior in recent years. So tourism services should be developed and improved in parallel these changes in order to be successful in attraction of tourists. Considering the above mentioned facts, this paper proposes a system for providing city maps for tourists on their Nintendo DS Game console. Because the Nintendo DS is the most popular...

    Abstract
In some websites, it is necessary to distinguish between human users and computer programs which is known as CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Human Apart). CAPTCHA methods are mainly based on the weaknesses of OCR systems while using them are undesirable to human users and cannot be used in some devices such as devices without keyboard. Nintendo DS is a popular handheld game console which was released in 2004. Nowadays, facilities such as the Internet connection are added in new game consoles and they are not merely used for playing games. Nintendo DS is also capable of connecting to the Internet by using the Nintendo DS Browser. But Nintendo DS Browser...

DCS: A distributed coordinate system for network positioning

    , Article Proceedings - IEEE International Symposium on Distributed Simulation and Real-Time Applications, DS-RT, 25 October 2009 through 28 October 2009, Singapore ; 2009 , Pages 113-120 ; 15506525 (ISSN) ; 9780769538686 (ISBN) Hariri, N ; Habibi, J ; Shirmohammadi, S ; Hariri, B ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Predicting latency between nodes on the internet can have a significant impact on the performance of many services that use latency distances among nodes as a decision making input. Coordinate-based approaches are among the family of latency prediction techniques where latency between each pair of nodes is modeled as the virtual distance among those nodes over a virtual system. This article proposes the Decentralized Coordinate System (DCS) as a fully distributed system that does not rely on any infrastructure support from the underlying network. DCS uses a two-phase algorithm: first, each host is assigned rough coordinates, then, the rough estimation is refined in a way that it gradually...

Performance analysis of internally coded partial-band DS-CDMA system in multipath Rayleigh fading channel

    , Article 2007 IEEE International Conference on Telecommunications and Malaysia International Conference on Communications, ICT-MICC 2007, Penang, 14 May 2007 through 17 May 2007 ; February , 2007 , Pages 29-34 ; 1424410940 (ISBN); 9781424410941 (ISBN) Mirmohseni, M ; Nasiri Kenari, M ; Shayesteh, M. G ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We evaluate the performance of the internally coded partial-band DS-CDMA scheme first introduced in [1], in a multipath Rayleigh fading channel. The scheme of [1] is based on frequency-hopping (FH) and direct-sequence (DS) spread spectrum techniques. The total bandwidth is divided into Ns subbands. The output of a super-orthogonal encoder and a pseudorandom (PN) sequence selects one subband, in which the user's data is sent in the form of DS-CDMA signal using the second PN sequence. We consider soft detection at the receiver front end. We obtain the upper and lower bounds on the bit error rate. For comparison, we also consider the conventional DS-CDMA system. It is shown that for the same...

On the outage probability of sir-based power-controlled DS-CDMA networks with spatial poisson traffic

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology ; Volume 59, Issue 1 , 2010 , Pages 499-506 ; 00189545 (ISSN) Taheri, M. M ; Navaie, K ; Bastani, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, we present a novel and rather simple method for calculating reverse-link outage probability in signal-to-interference ratio (SIR)-based power-controlled direct-sequence code-division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems. We obtain outage probability for a single-service system using the interference-to-received-signal-power ratio. We extend our method to the multiservice case using the uplink load factor, which is the ratio of the interference to the interference plus noise. Unlike most of the previous works, we employ the 2-D Poisson point process to model the spatial distribution of mobile users in the network coverage area. We approximate the...

Multiuser precoding and power allocation in downlink of cooperative CDMA networks

    , Article ATC 2009 - Proceedings of the 2009 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications, 12 October 2009 through 14 October 2009, Hai Phong ; 2009 , Pages 279-283 ; 9781424451395 (ISBN) Abdizadeh, M ; Jafarnia, A ; Jamali Rad, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, we study the downlink of cooperative Direct-Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (DS-CDMA) systems, where a set of Mobile Terminals (MT) cooperate with the purpose of improving their downlink communications reliability with Base Station (BS). For combating Multiple-Access Interference (MAI) as well as transferring complexity and spatial processing from the mobile terminals to the transmitter of BS, multiuser transmitter precoding is considered. In addition to multiuser precoding based on Minimum Mean-Square Error (MMSE) criterion for mitigating MAI, the proper transmission power control strategy under a fixed total power constraint is proposed and analyzed. Compared with...

    Abstract
Although collaborative distributed simulations and virtual environments (VE) have been an active area of research in the past few years, they have recently gained even more attention due to the emergence of online gaming, emergency simulation and planning systems, and disaster management applications. Such environments combine graphics, haptics, animations and networking to create interactive multimodal worlds that allows participants to collaborate in real-time. Massively Multiplayer Online Gaming (MMOG), perhaps the most widely deployed practical application of distributed virtual environments, allows players to act together concurrently in a virtual world over the Internet. IP...
