    2013
    Abstract
Propane dehydrogenation was carried over a commercial Pt-Sn/γ-Al 2O3 catalyst at atmospheric pressure and reaction temperatures of 580, 600, and 620°C and WHSV of 11 h-1 in an experimental tubular quartz reactor. Propane conversions were measured for catalyst time on stream of up to nine days. The amounts of coke deposited on the catalyst were measured after one, three, six, and nine days on stream using a thermogravimetric differential thermal analyzer (TG-DTA) for each reaction temperature. The coke formation kinetics was successfully described by a coke formation model based on a monolayer-multilayer mechanism. In addition, catalyst deactivation was presented by a time-dependant...

    Abstract
The nitrate-citrate gel exhibits auto-catalytic behavior, which can be used to synthesize nanocrystalline YIG powders. In this study, yttrium iron garnet (Y3Fe5O12) nanocrystalline powders were prepared by a sol-gel auto-combustion process. The influence of metal nitrates to citric acid molar ratio (MN/CA) of the precursor solution on the combustion behavior and crystallite size of synthesized powders was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermal analyses (DTA/TGA) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results show that with increasing MN/CA value, the combustion rate increases and the single-phase YIG forms at a higher temperature. The crystallite size of the single phase YIG...

    Abstract
Alkoxides are the most common precursors used for the production of alumina nanopowders. These materials are, however, expensive and corrosive. This paper introduces a new method for the production of alumina nanopowders by rapid cooling of a synthetic caustic sodium aluminate solution (Bayer liquor), followed by calcination in the presence of a surface-stabilizing agent like 1,2-dihydroxy-3,5-benzene disulfonic acid disodium salt (Tiron). The powders produced are characterized by differential thermal analysis, XRD, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscope, and Brunauer-Emmet-Teller. A nanopowder of α-alumina with an average crystallite size of 27.7 nm and an average...

    Abstract
Two series of heat-resistant 25Cr-35Ni-Nb stainless steels with tungsten addition and Nb/C ratio of ≈2.6 and 3.9 were directionally solidified under two cooling rates of 23–6 °C s−1, respectively. EDS analysis, electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), differential thermal analysis (DTA) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) tests were carried out to show that tungsten as a carbide phase nucleant promoted weak coupled eutectic growth of γ/ M7C3 and decreased the lamellar eutectic colonies. Substantial negative segregation of Ni and Fe and positive segregation of Nb and Cr in tungsten-bearing alloys stimulated the γ/M23C6 reaction and the M23C6 possessed a dendritic...

    2011
    Abstract
The effect of α-Al 2O 3 seeds and MgO on the densification behavior and microstructure of the nanocrystalline γ-Al 2O 3 powder was investigated. The required α-Al 2O 3 seeds were produced by 'autogenous seeding' where the seeds were obtained by calcination of the initial nanosized γ-Al 2O 3 powders above its transformation temperature and incorporated into γ-Al 2O 3 matrix. The seeds were characterized by means of laser particle size analyzer, X-ray diffraction, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface analyzer. The simultaneous influence of α-Al 2O 3 seeds and MgO on γ-Al 2O 3 behavior was evaluated by differential thermal analysis, densitometry, and electron microscopy. The results showed that...

    Abstract
The effects of SiO 2 and K 2O were investigated on the glass forming ability (GFA) and structural characteristics of CaOTiO 2P 2O 5 system. Differential thermal analyzer (DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), FT-IR and 31P magic angle spinning NMR methods were applied for characterizations of the system. Unwanted crystallization in the initial three components base glass composition was observed by adding SiO 2 and crystalline phases such as TiP 2O 7, rutile (TiO 2) and cristobalite (SiO 2) were formed in it. The results showed that K 2O prevents crystallization of glasses and promotes the formation of glass. FT-IR and X-ray diffraction showed that the addition...

    Abstract
H2O-assisted atmospheric pressure chemical vapor synthesis is a modern economical process for the gas-phase synthesis of TiO2 nanoparticles. In the present work, the influence of synthesis temperatures (100-800 °C) on the phase structure, nanoparticle size, morphology, and agglomeration is investigated by transmission electron microscopy, selected area electron diffraction, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetry, and differential thermal analysis. Down to 400 °C, crystalline TiO2 nanoparticles are synthesized and at 200 °C amorphous nanoparticles are formed. Therefore, a decrease in minimum synthesis temperature by more than 500 °C is achieved. In addition, the paper investigates the hypothesis...
