Abstract
Increasing grid integration of intermittent renewable energy sources (RESs) and plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) with uncertain behaviours have necessitated enhancing the flexibility requirements of distribution networks. Thus, in the state-of-The-Art distribution network expansion planning (DNEP) models, both flexibility requirements and high penetration of RESs and PEVs should be taken into consideration. In this respect, a novel collaborative planning model for power distribution network (PDN) and plug-in Electric Vehicle Parking Lots (EVPLs) is proposed in this paper, which leverages sizing, siting, and operation of EVPLs to enhance the distribution network flexibility. Also, to model...
Distribution network expansion planning considering distribution automation system
, Article IET Conference Publications ; Vol. 2013, issue. 615 CP , 2013 ; Fotuhi-Firuzabad, M ; Kazemi, S ; Maslehati, V ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
Planning of distribution networks is usually accomplished using a cost-based conventional model that minimizes the total cost of construction and reinforcement of substations and feeders. The resulted expansion plan designed by this cost-based model is not necessarily the best choice for an electrical distribution company (DISCO) in the nowadays deregulated structure. This happening is mainly due to the fact that the utility seeks to maximize its profit in this competitive environment. On the other hand, this model does not consider the upcoming new challenges ahead of distribution systems, such as smart grid and distribution automation technologies. This paper presents a novel profit-based...

Abstract
Reliability is an essential factor in distribution networkt expansion planning. However, standard distribution reliability assessment techniques rely on quantifying the impact of a pre-specified set of events on service continuity through the simulation of component outages, one at a time. Due to such a simulation-based nature, the incorporation of reliability into distribution network expansion planning has customarily required the application of heuristic and metaheuristic approaches. Recently, alternative mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) models have been proposed for distribution network expansion planning considering reliability. Nonetheless, such models suffer from either low...

Abstract
This paper presents a novel profit-based model for multistage distribution network expansion planning. In the proposed model, some capabilities of the distribution automation system are considered to achieve a plan that is more compatible with the strategic plan towards a smart distribution grid. Moreover, a method for reliability evaluation of a distribution network in the planning studies is proposed. The objective function of the planning problem is the net present value of the company's profit. The problem is solved by employing the genetic algorithm approach as a promising technique in solving the mixed-integer nonlinear programming problem. The proposed method is evaluated on an...
Maintenance based distribution network expansion planning
, Article 25th Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering, ICEE 2017, 2 May 2017 through 4 May 2017 ; 2017 , Pages 1004-1009 ; 9781509059638 (ISBN) ; Moeini Aghtaie, M ; Safdarian, A ; Abbaspour Tehrani Fard, A ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
This paper develops a reliability-based model for distribution network expansion planning (DNEP) studies. It incorporates the effects of distribution line maintenance in the planning studies to be considered as an alternative for the installation of feeders. To that end, at first, some models are introduced to effectively estimate the effects of maintenance activities budget on distribution lines' failure and repair rates. Therefore, the reliability data of distribution lines are updated in the reliability evaluation studies of distribution networks. Then, these models are involved in the formulation of DNEP problem which is introduced as a multi-objective optimization model. The developed...

Abstract
In this paper the reliability of distribution network is modeled in joint multistage expansion planning of distribution network assets and distributed generations (DGs). The imposed costs due to network reliability weakness are considerable in the distribution level. Therefore in the proposed model distribution network operator (DNO) considers the costs associated with load interruptions in the planning problem. In this regard, reliability evaluation of the network is modeled in the joint multistage distribution network expansion planning (MDNEP) problem in an integrated manner while the network topology is unknown until the planning problem is not solved. In the proposed joint MDNEP problem...
A distribution network expansion planning model considering distributed generation options and techo-economical issues
, Article Energy ; Volume 35, Issue 8 , 2010 , Pages 3364-3374 ; 03605442 (ISSN) ; Ehsan, M ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
This paper presents a dynamic multi-objective model for distribution network expansion, considering the distributed generations as non-wire solutions. The proposed model simultaneously optimizes two objectives namely, total costs and technical constraint satisfaction by finding the optimal schemes of sizing, placement and specially the dynamics (i.e., timing) of investments on DG units and/or network reinforcements over the planning period. An efficient heuristic search method is proposed to find non-dominated solutions of the formulated problem and a fuzzy satisfying method is used to choose the final solution. The effectiveness of the proposed model and search method are assessed and...
