Abstract
Estimation of physical parameters in dynamical systems driven by linear partial differential equations is an important problem. In this paper, we introduce the least costly experiment design framework for these systems. It enables parameter estimation with an accuracy that is specified by the experimenter prior to the identification experiment, while at the same time minimising the cost of the experiment. We show how to adapt the classical framework for these systems and take into account scaling and stability issues. We also introduce a progressive subdivision algorithm that further generalises the experiment design framework in the sense that it returns the lowest cost by finding the...

Abstract
Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) technology provides one of the most promising solutions to tackle the threatening challenges such as air pollution in urban areas. Dramatic increases in the number of PHEVs could have major impacts on power system operations because of their high electricity demand. From the distribution system operator facet, distribution system congestion during PHEVs charging is an economic and security concern. It is, therefore, necessary to investigate the effects of widespread using of PHEVs on the performance of distribution networks. In this paper, PHEV characteristics are exactly studied and a comprehensive model for investigation of PHEV impacts is achieved....
Optimal allocation of PHEV parking lots to minimize distribution system losses
, Article IEEE Eindhoven PowerTech, PowerTech 2015 ; 2015 ; 9781479976935 (ISBN) ; Abbaspour, A ; Fotuhi Firuzabad, M ; Rastegar, M ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
To tackle the air pollution issues, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) are proposed as an appropriate solution. Charging a large amount of PHEV batteries, if not controlled, would have negative impacts on the distribution system. The control process of charging of these vehicles can be centralized in parking lots that may provide a chance for better coordination than the individual charging in houses. In this paper, an optimization-based approach is proposed to determine the optimum PHEV parking capacities in candidate nodes of the distribution system. In so doing, a profile for charging and discharging of PHEVs is developed in order to flatten the network load profile. Then, this...

Abstract
This paper focuses on expansion co-planning studies of natural gas and electricity distribution systems. The aim is to develop a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model for such problems to guarantee the finite convergence to optimality. To this end, at first the interconnection of electricity and natural gas networks at demand nodes is modelled by the concept of energy hub (EH). Then, mathematical model of expansion studies associated with the natural gas, electricity and EHs are extracted. The optimization models of these three expansion studies incorporate investment and operation costs. Based on these separate planning problems, which are all in the form of mixed-integer nonlinear...

Abstract
Continuity of supply plays a significant role in modern distribution system planning and operational studies. Accordingly, various techniques have been developed for reliability assessment of distribution networks. However, owing to the complexities and restrictions of these methods, many researchers have resorted to several heuristic optimization algorithms for solving reliability-constrained optimization problems. Therefore, solution quality and convergence to global optimality cannot be guaranteed. Aiming to address this issue, two salient mathematical models are introduced in this paper for topology-variable-based reliability evaluation of both radial and radially-operated meshed...
