This paper presents a scheme to enumerate the incident waves impinging on a high dimensional uniform linear array using relatively few samples. The approach is based on Minimum Description Length (MDL) criteria and statistical properties of eigenvalues of the Sample Covariance Matrix (SCM). We assume that several models, with each model representing a certain number of sources, will compete and MDL criterion will select the best model with the minimum model complexity and maximum model decision. In the present study, regarding the theoretical and practical aspects of nanoparticle capture in liquid-state processing of aluminum composite, different volume fractions of TiB 2 and TiO 2 nanopowders were incorporated into aluminum alloy via stir casting method. Hardness and sliding wear test were carried out to evaluate the mechanical properties of composites. The effects of wear load and reinforcement content on wear rate and friction coefficient of composites were examined. Surface hybrid in-situ aluminum matrix nanocomposite (AMNC) was fabricated by multi-pass friction stir processing (FSP) and a tool traversing speed of 100 mm/min and rotating speed of 1600 rpm with an objective to enhance mechanical properties. Mischmetal oxide (MMO) powder with an initial size of 50 nm, at a concentration of 8.5 vol% was used as the reinforcing particles. EDS particle analyses revealed in-situ solid-state chemical reactions between the Al matrix and the MMO particles.
