Multispanning tree zone-ordered label-based routing algorithms for irregular networks

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems ; Vol. 22, issue. 5 , 2011 , p. 817-832 ; ISSN: 10459219 Moraveji, R ; Moinzadeh, P ; Sarbazi-Azad, H ; Zomaya, A.Y ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, a diverse range of routing algorithms is classified into a new family of routings called zone-ordered label-based routing algorithms. The proposed classification is based on three common steps (factors) for generating such routings, namely, graph labeling, deadlock-free zones, and zone ordering. The main goal of this classification is to define several new routing concepts and streamline the knowledge on routing algorithms. Following the classification, a novel methodology is proposed to generate routing algorithms for irregular networks. The methodology uses the three mentioned steps to generate deadlock-free routings. Consequently, the methodology-based routings fall into...

Optimal selection of voltage sag mitigation solution based on event tree method

    , Article PQ 2012: 8th International Conference - 2012 Electric Power Quality and Supply Reliability, Conference Proceedings ; 2012 , p. 119-124 ; ISBN: 9781470000000 Yasir, M ; Kazemi, S ; Lehtonen, M ; Fotuhi-Firuzabad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Modern commercial operations consist of critical equipments that are more susceptible to voltage sag events. The consistent and smooth running of these operations is often disrupted by voltage sags. Diverse range of solutions exist which can enhance the ride through capability of sensitive devices. This paper presents various voltage dip mitigation solutions and a methodology for analyzing the effectiveness and practical viability of these solutions. The proposed approach is based on event tree method which gives an indication about the extent of process interruption in the event of voltage sags. A case study is conducted in the paper with different combinations of practical mitigation...

Post Optimal Analysis application on the reliability evaluation of the Iran power grid

    , Article 2012 11th International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering, EEEIC 2012 - Conference Proceedings ; 2012 , p. 873-878 ; ISBN: 9781460000000 Safdarian, A ; Fotuhi-Firuzabad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Access to a computational tractable method for representing the system more realistically has always been an important issue in power system reliability assessment. The Post Optimal Analysis (POA), as a well recognized technique to attack a set of similar optimization problems, has been successfully used to assess the reliability of composite systems. This method exploits the similarity of the system states to speed up the contingency evaluation procedure without sacrificing the accuracy of the results. In this paper, the performance and practical feasibility of the POA technique for power system reliability evaluation is tested using the Iran power grid. The POA based approach is applicable...

Longitudinal and transverse vibration of a single-walled carbon nanotube subjected to a moving nanoparticle accounting for both nonlocal and inertial effects

    , Article Physica E: Low-Dimensional Systems and Nanostructures ; Volume 42, Issue 9 , 2010 , Pages 2391-2401 ; 13869477 (ISSN) Kiani, K ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) can be promising delivery nanodevices for a diverse range of applications, however, little is known about their dynamical interactions with moving nanoscale particles. In this paper, dynamic response of a SWCNT subjected to a moving nanoparticle is examined in the framework of the nonlocal continuum theory of Eringen. The inertial effects of the moving nanoparticle and the existing friction between the nanoparticle surface and the inner surface of the SWCNT are incorporated in the formulation of the problem. The equivalent continuum structure associated with the SWCNT is considered and modeled using nonlocal Rayleigh beam theory under simply supported...
